Chapter 1
Nothing beats having your whole future mapped out in front of you, I was a planner, Shawn would tease me about if for years. We would go to college, be happy and get married after a while. Babies weren’t really on our list but we would have them someday, Shawn was the alpha and he would need a child to continue his legacy. I was totally okay with that.
I walked out of the room whistling a happy tune and I smiled. Tonight was Shawn’s birthday dinner and the night that would seal our future together. Aside the fact that I find his sisters irritating and they would probably do all their best to make me mad, I was going to ignore them tonight.
Tonight is special, for me and Shawn. We would be mated tonight, we would spend the night in each others arms at a rented cottage far from home. then jet off to college next week. We would be happy together and nothing would come between us. Not even his annoying sisters or his long lists of jealous exes.
I checked the dresses I picked out earlier from a reputable store and I chuckled as I thought of the yellow lingerie I got. Tonight would be special for both of us and that’s why I got a yellow lingerie.
Shawn loved yellow too much and I think it would make him happy if our first time together, I’m wearing his favorite color. I look forward to his reaction tonight when I finally take off my dress for him.
My phone ringing distracted me from my thoughts and I picked it up. It was Mary, one of Shawn and I friends. She was pretty annoying considering they broke up a month before my mom and I moved here and she’s still takes out her anger on me. Shawn use to tell me to ignore her tantrums and tonight would prove me right and shut her up forever. I could feel it deep in my bones. The excitement was bubbling in me.
“Hey Mary, what’s up?” I asked leaning on the kitchen counter and I could swear I heard her snicker before she finally decided to speak up.
“Where’s Shawn’s party tonight and is it strictly by invitation? My cousin, Dora just touched down from LA and she would love to attend.” She said and I rolled my eyes. She knew the party was strictly by invitation and she was trying to blackmail me into letting her cousin attend too. Well, the more the merrier and it would be so nice to watch her get humiliated with her cousin present.
“Uhm it’s strictly by invitation but I can spare an invite for your cousin. It’s totally fine and it’s happening in Club Deluxe. The VIP floor, I will text you the code once it’s activated.” I replied with a nice voice and I knew she would think I was just being nice. No need to reveal my tactics to her.
“Thank you so much, I owe you one.” She replied excitedly before hanging up. I didn’t even get a chance to say a word, that was the regular mary for you. Once she gets what she wanted, she would bolt. Tsk.
I turned around and I started humming before cleaning the whole apartment. I wasn’t going to be back here in a while and mom rarely spends time in here. She doesn’t enjoy cooking as much as I do and she spends most times in the hospital as a doctor.
She enjoys volunteering and that was part of what made us welcome when we came here. They were battling smallpox attack and my mom helped out a large part in developing a cure that worked for the werewolves. That was how I met Shawn and he picked a interest in me.
Someone knocking at the rodeo brought my attention back and I opened the door not after peeping into the keyhole. My best friend, Sandra stood there with her makeup box and other stuffs she got from the mall. It was almost evening already and we better start preparing for the party.
Even though it is a night party and mom is on overnight shift tonight, meaning I would have to lock the door properly so it’s safe. I threw open the door and Sandra walked in whistling at her loudest. My mom doesn’t enjoy me having Sandra around because of how loud she was but we make a pretty good team.
“Why are you screaming? Why if mom was inside sleeping?” I asked with a smile and she wiggled her brows at me. She knew my mom wasn’t inside and I was just teasing. She’s kind of scared of my mom too so she rarely comes around if she’s home.
“I can’t wait to drop jaws tonight because it’s the party of the century and we are all going off to college very soon. Make some noise for me baby” she screamed and this time I joined her. I was so excited to be partying tonight with the love of my life.
Tonight would seal our fate and I’m so excited. Part of me is scared that things might go wrong but I don’t want to focus on that. Shawn and I would be fine and nothing would happen to us. I was doing more of convincing myself than actually doing anything. This can’t even afford to go wrong.
________
I walked out of the house with Sandra walking beside me and me looking the hottest I’ve ever been this year. I will surely turn heads, I will definitely make Shawn go crazy over me. The thoughts of it alone was making my skin crawl in excitement. I can’t imagine life without him. Mom would probably have my heard if she ever hears me say this out loud.
“What if everything goes wrong tonight, I know you enjoy planning and all. What if nothing goes according to your plan tonight?” Sandra asked out of the blue and I paused. I’ve thought about it too but not deeply enough for it to hit me in the face.
“Don’t worry baby, everything would go according to plan. You’re an amazing planner and Shawn loves you so much. Don’t worry about everything not going according to plan.” Sandra shrugged but somehow, I couldn’t think of it like her. I couldn’t take off the fact that everything can suddenly change in one night and I would be on the receiving end. It was crazy as hell.
“Are you still thinking about what I said?” Sandra asked me as soon as she settled behind the wheel and I shook my head to say no. I wasn’t going to make her look like she was at fault for giving me a reality check.
“That’s my girl. Where’s that energy to party hard like an Simao tonight?” She screamed and I followed suit. My neighbors would probably give my mom a full report of how we were screaming at night. It was time to see if I would win this life thing or not. I’m so nervous and I won’t lie.
We walked into the club and half of our friends —Shawn friends were waiting already and the birthday boy is no where to be found. Another half of some people from school who were hoping to get in even without having to enter stood outside and I shook my head, Shawn made himself so clear but they won’t listen to him anyways, so no need to stress it. That’s why I was the one who enforced the policy.
“Hey baby.” I said with a smile as soon as Shawn walked in, he looked kind of restless and I noticed. This wasn’t the usual Shawn but I couldn’t put it past him being worried about us too tonight. I mean, I’m not wearing my emotions on my sleeve that’s why. I kind of like having everything under control or pretending to. That’s me for you.
He was about to get to me when he suddenly paused, confusion clouded my features because I had no idea why he paused or why he was looking so restless or jumpy.
“Do you smell that?” He asked in a gruffly voice and I paused. Many people say they found their mates through smell and other things but I think my worst nightmare is about to happen right in my front.
He turned away from me and he started to walk towards the door of the club. Everyone paused watching the drama unfold and I was starting to panic. This couldn’t be happening to me, never in my life.
“Mate!” He growled and everyone’s attention snapped to the person he just called his mate. The girl was standing with Mary at the corner and I assumed that’s her cousin that I allowed to come to the party to witness her mockery. Now she was going to witness mine. They walked closer and he pulled her into a possessive hug and I lost it. I screamed and everyone started to look in my direction. Some with scorn and others in pity. Shawn didn’t take his eyes of his new mate for once and I ran. That was the most sensible thing to do at that moment, I ignore Sandra’s screams and I took off.
