Chapter 6

2051 Words
I stood on the balcony, feeling tired to a fault as I let the violent breeze blow away my worries, although it was fruitless. My thought was a mirror of my life—chaotic and It was unnerving to not think about how much things had changed in the lady six years and this place sure didn't feel like home anymore. Firstly, I was scared to s**t when I realized how sick my mother was. She used to be so full of life and cheerful but now, she was almost at the stage of being referred to as a ghost of herself. Secondly, hearing that Shawn and his mate weren't the present rulers of the pack was a news that had me crouching my stomach. Last but not the least, imagine my shock when I found out that the present alpha of the pack was the god-like man that f****d me to oblivion and back six years ago; the father of my son! Kade's father. Had there ever been a thing Kade wanted more than a whole family? Him, me, and a father. Shit! Kade has always wanted a father but he'd always pictured Liam to be him. He had always wanted Liam to be his father and talking about Liam, should I tell him I've found the father of my son? But was the father of my son willing to be a father to his son? And how would Kade live with this transition? From leaving the life he was used to being told and shown a father he had never known. It was almost impossible to forget the hardship I had to go through to raise Kade on my own. It was impossible to forget the icy tone in the way he spoke to me earlier but more than anything else, it was harder to forget how much of a good fucker he was. I mean, seeing him all icy but got made those insane memories flood back and I couldn't help but relish them. Make no mistake, I could regret the situation that made me go back to the club six years ago, and the drunken decision that came after but I could never regret giving birth to Kade. I swore to protect and make him happy from the second I knew of his presence inside of me up until now and that was what I would do. That was what a good mother should do. I do not even know Dax, but depriving Kade of the chance of his father's love and affection would amount to being my worst sin. Also, depriving him of the benefits that were inclined to be his father's son wasn't even worth a thought. But what if he wants Liam still? That man had been the father figure he knew. What about Shawn? I only heard he was reduced to an ordinary warrior beta in the pack he now lives a low life like other warriors, probably in the slums. I really wished I could see Shawn again because, to be honest, I really missed him and everything about him and I wanted answers too. Answers to questions I've been carrying for six years. A knock came on my door invading my thoughts. "Who's that?" I asked. "I'm a maid ma'am I brought you your dinner. Alpha Dax said to make sure you and Kade are properly fed." the maid said from the other end of the door. Was I hearing things? I thought as I left the balcony and went to open the door for the maid who handed the food to me respectfully and turned to leave but I dragged her back. "Did he say why he is… " I cut my sentence before I asked the wrong question and give off the wrong impression. I wanted all but some baseless rumors to start going around. "Do you know perhaps where the former Alpha is?" I asked instead. Not the most ideal question for someone who doesn't want 'baseless rumors ' to spread but what could an inquisitive heart do? The maid looked shocked by my question but she answered in a tiny voice. "He lives in the slums like every other war beta, just like a low life," she said hurriedly but enough for me to hear her. "How can I find him? I know I am asking a lot from you but it's very urgent I really want to see if Shawn is doing well." I asked further. I didn't even know why I was looking for someone who rejected me. I still didn't get the reason why a part of me still wanted to see him, wanted to know if he was okay, wanted to know if he missed everything that has ever happened between us. "You got to the slums, ma'am. But please be very careful ma'am even when meeting him because we are not allowed to speak with him," she said with a genuine smile and left. "Thanks," I said as she went then went back to my room shutting the door behind me with the tray of food in my hands. I placed the tray on the table and stared at it. Since when did the Alpha start caring about people, especially me and my son? Barely a day ago, he was howling impudent words at me and not caring about Kade so what the hell is this? Alpha Dax POV " f**k!" I said as I punched the white wall for the second time this evening. "You really do know how to mess things up; well done" I groaned before going to sit on the pouch. I was a sucker bad for good things and that was probably why I ruin every good thing that comes my way. "Pop my cheery" six years ago was a night I could never forget in a hurry and how often had I regret my rash decision after. I've been living in regrets and mockery for my idiocy for the last six years! And now, even when the redemption of my mistake was staring at my face, I let folly be the order of the day. Talk about a supposed ruthless Alpha that was scared to own up to his deeds. A total prick! Meeting Becca now was still the same as six years ago, if not better. She was everything my cold mind want in a woman. She was more beautiful—the blue in her eyes were more striking and her curves were more accentuated. Although she'd cut her hair but I still felt tingles in my palm from how it felt. I wanted to gather them up in a ponytail while she gives me the best b*****b again. When she spoke, I felt my groin twitch at how her tongue worked in her mouth, especially with those lips…those pink, soft, honeyed full lips of hers. Against my groin, they tasted like chocolate ganache on a pancake. I didn't mean to leave her that night but that was the only thing I could think of. Waiting then would have ruined everything for me and that was a risk I couldn't afford to take. I felt guilty before but now, I felt terrible. Indifference was my default solution to issues like this and that was why I acted the way I did. I thought that Becca was like my paperwork that I could just bundle up and shove into my down drawer and viola… but now I know she wasn't. She has something that is mine—flesh, and blood and I could not be indifferent to that. I know what it feels like not to have a good father and I would never want anyone to go through that. Definitely not my son. The thought of having a child, a son for that matter made me shiver due to the responsibility and all especially since I wasn't with him since the beginning I wouldn't want to miss any more time with him. After all, he was my son, and Becca she was the mother of my child. I could be like my father in so many ways, but I could never neglect my child, and I sure as hell could never kill my woman. My woman? Ha! I like the sound of that. I would honestly do all I can to make things right with Becca and Kade. I didn't know how to be sweet to humans, but I remembered what I needed and wanted from my father as a child. I remember too, all that my mother begged my father to not do to her. I could start with those with Becca and Kade and… an abrupt knock on my door interrupted my thought. "Come in," I said coldly. "Sir I have given Miss Becca her dinner and apparently Kade is asleep." The maid I had earlier sent said. "Are you sure? And did you tell her it was for me?" I inquired further. "Yes sir I am sure and I told her it was from me." She said haltingly. "That's your new job now to make sure they are both fine and I would like you to start monitoring Becca's movement from now on and tell me what she likes doing, who she visits, and all other information I might find useful. Give me the updates every night." I said and excused her to leave. I was going to have someone spy on her but I had a good reason. I just wanted to be more familiar with and know some things about the mother of my child and my child too. I might come too strongly on her if I start asking her about her personal life and I didn't want to scare her away. I wanted to show them care and affection but I didn't want to seem like a creep while doing that. "Not a word about it to Becca "What in the wicked world is Becca not supposed to be told a word about?" Her delinquent voice burnt even before she made an appearance. "You may go," I said to the maid who bowed humbly and left. I turned to see Becca in her pajamas. "Do you not know how to knock?" I said "Oh forgive me, I was taking care of our child when I was supposed to be putting into practice, what my Mama taught me." She hissed, hugging her frame. I took the incentive to put out the AC and her eyes widened. "Like you care. Why did you bring us dinner?" She crossed her hand on her chest "Call it a truce?" "Oh, like a plate of expensive food would make up for six years of the absence of one's father" she gnawed. "It wouldn't. But I'm willing to do more, until it does" a gasp left her mouth, shocked. "I'm willing to do more for our child" a warm shiver run down my spine from my acknowledgment. Saying "my son" gave me this warm feeling of Happiness and contentment. "How did we get here Dax? One moment you were being rude with your words and now this?" "I know and I'm sorry. Why don't you come over tomorrow so we can talk about us?" I said, Becca's eyes flared open with unbelieve. "Uhh. I.. I'll try" "Thank you, Becca," I said hesitantly "You do know that being a father is not a piece of cake and if you want me to tell Kade you are his father you know it also means you have to own up to responsibility as fast as possible meaning immediately. You'll buy stuff for him and just act like a good father generally and if you know you are not ready to act like a father please tell me and we can not just tell him anything because I don't want him to have a bad experience with you." She said straightforwardly and from the way she talked it was obvious she didn't joke with her son. I knew right then, that there would not be another chance if I blow this one up. "I'm a fast learner and If I have you as my coach regarding how to be good to our son, it will be promising, right?"
