Alpha Dax - My mate has a son!

Chapter 9

Early the next morning, Kade and I freshened up and I went to work along with Kade. The Manager would introduce me to the team in my department today and I was nervous.

I left Kade with my mom and told the receptionist that I was going to the manager's office. She called to inform him that I was coming. I got to the office, exchanged greetings, and headed to my department and a space I would share with other doctors since my rank wasn’t high.

When we got there, I was introduced and all the doctors were polite I gained a warm welcome then I settled in and dropped my stuff. Then I realized I hadn’t even told Alpha Dax I got the job, I’ll tell him today.

I saw a patient which turned out to be Shawn and his daughter. Apparently, the girl had a convulsion and I prescribed some drugs. But Shawn introduced me to his daughter before they left and the girl was quite pleasant. Shawn did stay for a while and we had a small discussion before they left.

Later in the day, I went to check up on Kade and my mom, I saw them laughing and it looked like she was telling him a funny story. Their laughter was music to my ears. I had a small urge to see Alpha Dax, it had been quite a long since I’d seen him anyways.

And Shawn decided to come back, he said he needed someone to talk to and we went outside the hospital. We were joking and talking about old times. He asked me why I left years ago and I sighed, “I couldn’t handle the humiliation of not being your mate after we were dating,” I said and he looked bewildered but understood, he was always understanding those were one of the qualities I adored in him.

A car entered the gate and a man stepped out, Alpha Dax. He was talking to another man and then spotted me, he gave a quick glance, almost unnoticeable, and continued his conversation with the man he was talking to and I did the same with Shawn. But Shawn noticed I was distracted, “Is everything alright?” he asked, “yeah, everything’s fine” I replied then he told me about how his mate died and I was on the verge of tears. His mate had died and he was left alone to take care of their daughter. I hugged him, no one should have to go through all that.

I noticed Alpha Dax stared at us for a short while when I hugged him, was he jealous, I thought to myself. That couldn’t be, but there is a mate bond so it’s possible. He continued his conversation while Shawn noticed I stared at him.

“Do you know him?” he asked, “No” I replied and he looked at me weirdly before looking away. He said he needed to go, we said Pitt goodbyes, and I went back into the hospital.

It was late and some doctors were already leaving, so I grabbed my things, picked up Kade, and left the hospital to go back home.

Alpha Dax’s POV:

I couldn't stop thinking about Becca last night but my restlessness heightened when I didn't see her early this morning. I'd have looked for her more but I had a meeting with a pack member at the hospital so I decided to put my worry on a leash until I got back. But to my utmost surprise, Becca was at the hospital at my arrival and that too, she was wearing a doctor's coat.

What was she doing here, I asked myself. She probably got the job but she should have told me and where’s Kade? My interest was strongly piqued by his absence but I couldn’t leave who I was talking to.

I was still wondering why she didn't tell me about the job when a random guy came up to her and they started talking. It seemed like they knew each other for a long time. The guy looked familiar, I saw his face and it was Shawn, the former alpha. How did she know him? A lot of questions were in my head but I put them aside to listen to what a pack member was telling me about the witches.

My breath got caught in my throat when she hugged him and that gave me this certain feeling I couldn't characterize. I wouldn't call it jealousy though but I felt like yanking her away from him, but I know I couldn’t do that. It didn't take long until I saw her leaving with Kade.

The pack member finished talking and I got into the car and went back to the house. I thought about what I felt when I saw her hug Shawn, it was a feeling of disgust. I couldn’t place it but I knew I wasn’t happy about it.

When I got to the house, they were not in the living room, so they were probably in their room. I was exhausted. I went to my room but I stopped in my tracks when I was in front of Becca and Kade’s room. I heard them laughing so I decided to listen. “I’m going to catch you,” Becca said while laughing and strangely her laugh was pleasing. They played and tossed around, it was quite a funny scene and I couldn't help but let out a small laugh. That was enough spying, so I left and went to my study.

I went down for dinner and I saw the mother and son sitting down and it looked like they were waiting for me because the maid just served the dishes and I felt glad that they waited for me. It gave me a warm feeling.

We had a hearty dinner and I asked her about the job and she told me she started working at the hospital today. I also asked Kade how his day was, “ it was amazing, I talked to grandma and she told me an amazing story” he said happily and I listened, “that’s great” I said and excused myself.

I needed to solve the issue of the rogue wolves lurking around the area. We needed to heighten security and be more alert. They might have formed a pack and could attack anytime. We can’t be caught by surprise so I needed to plan a strategy. So, I stayed up all night planning the perfect strategy.

Next morning….

I didn’t get any sleep but I didn’t feel drained, it was normal now. I went down to eat and they were there again, we exchanged greetings and ate. I talked to Kade for a bit then went to my room. I called my right-hand man, Lucas and we discussed my plan and the rogues. He said it was perfect but we needed to act on them immediately and I left it for him to handle. He was my right-hand man anyways.

Becca and Kade must have gone. I needed to talk to her about the mating bond. I don’t even know how I’m going to approach her about it. I had other things to handle so I went right at it.

I had a meeting to tell the important pack members about the rogues. It went smoothly and most of them agreed with me about my plan while some didn’t and I didn’t care. The majority supported me and that was what mattered the most.

I didn’t really have anything else to do so I decided to get a gift for Becca since I hadn’t given her anything, problem is I don’t have any idea of what to get her and there was no female around.

I just asked the butler to go to the city’s jewelry shop and buy a bracelet for Becca and he got a beautiful one that had Swarovski stones that sparkle and I commended him for a job well done.

Since I didn’t have anything to do I decided to wait until they got home.

It was late until they got home and Becca looked exhausted and Kade looked like he was about to sleep. I went over to them, “are both of you alright?” I asked, “ Mommy is very tired and I want to sleep” Kade answered trying to keep himself awake I carried him to their room and Becca followed.

I dropped him on the bed and he slept immediately while Becca slumped on the chair and I was worried. “Are you alright?” I asked, “ I’m fine, just tired” she replied and I nodded. She tried to stand up but she fell and I caught her just in time. Our eyes held each other’s for what seemed like an eternity and I felt this abnormal beating of my heart and heat in my body.

She composed herself and I slowly let her go and stood her up straight, her face turned red again like the last time. Does she have a condition? I thought to myself before she coughed awkwardly and thanked me.

I left the room and asked a maid to get her some food to eat. I thought about how I’d give her the bracelet. f**k, I was never good at things that come to matters of love, I don’t even know why I bought the bracelet, I just found myself doing things unusual. Partly because she was the mother of my son but the other reasons why I felt obligated to make her happy remained oblivious to me. I went to my study to look at some files but then I got a knock on my door, I opened it to see Becca in front of me.

“Can we talk?” Becca asked, her back pinned on the wall at the entrance of the room.

"Come in and have a seat first" she did as I had instructed. It was then it hit me why I had been looking for her. “Before you start, I need to give you something” I said and she looked puzzled. I brought out the box and gave it to her, she opened it and she looked surprised.

“I can’t accept this, it’s too much,” she said and I frowned, “Why?” I asked,

“It’s too much, it probably cost you a lot,” she said,

“Nothing expensive is too much for you. I want you to keep it… please” I replied. My hand slowly gilded up to hold her palm and the warmth I felt from touching her skin was nothing I had prepared for. "Please" I said in a whisper.

Shit!

I had never given anyone a gift nor persuaded them to accept it and here I was trying to coax this lady to accept my gift, what had I turned to?
