Chapter 3

2148 Words
Six Years Later… I walked around my whole apartment and I was starting to feel so bad. I took the day off from the hospital because I was moving back home. My colleagues are throwing me a send forth party but my whole inside is a hard knot. I haven’t seen my mother in five years and the last time we saw each other, it wasn’t really a good situation. I had just spent the night with a man that was gone without a trace by morning and the only evidence of him being present that night was the soft throbbing between my legs and the two red lines that showed on the pregnancy test kit a few weeks later in my college room. After Shawn found his mate, my whole life went down the drain from there. I didn’t have anyone to rely on anymore and it was so embarrassing that I had to move away for my own mental health. My mom cried because she felt she was losing me but I needed to do it for myself. Now, mom is dying and our people are dying from a rare disease pandemic and they need me back at home. I have no idea how I am supposed to react. My mother wanted to spend her last days with me and Kade and I wasn’t going to take away the only chance to spend time with her grandson away from her. After I found out I was pregnant, I was going crazy. A new job in a new city and I was juggling school too. I had no one to help me out but I survive anyways. Plus the father of the baby seemed to vanish off the face of earth. I tried finding him but I kept on failing in the worst manner available. I hated him and everyone else including myself. “Mommy, I can’t wait to travel home.” Kade screamed from the top of the stairs and I turned to flash him a smile. Kade was my little angel, the goddess gift to me. If this was my first time going home and meeting my grandmother and everyone that could be family to us, I would be excited too. Sadly, this isn’t my first time going home and I have no idea the kind of reception I was going to receive. I was scared, deeply scared. I went from being the pack sweetheart to someone who ran because she was scared to face the truth. I don’t blame myself, that truth was too bitter. So I did the most cowardly thing, I ran. I ran instead of facing the truth. “I’m done packing, once Uncle Liam arrives, we would be on our way. I’m so happy you’re happy baby.” I replied and Kade smiled more. I really hope he doesn’t see the mental struggle I’m going through right now. No on except my mom knew I fell pregnant and I hope they receive us well. I would hate for anyone to treat my baby like s**t. That’s going to be the last line. “Mommy, is uncle Liam going with us?” He asked again and I fought back the tears that threatened to spill. I shook my head and I saw his face visibly dropped, he had always wanted a family with me and uncle Liam but it’s not working. No matter how much I tried, Liam just doesn’t feel right for me. The more I try to make him see my point of view, the more he refused to see them. We called things off last night but he still promised to drop us off at the airport this morning. Something about a goodbye, I have no idea when I would be coming back and I really want him to find his own person. “Uncle Liam is hereeee” Kade’s scream interrupted my thoughts and I watched with a sad smile as he rushed towards the door to open it for Liam. He hurled himself at Liam the moment he opened the door and Liam picked him up effortlessly. They looked so good together and somehow I feel guilty that I am robbing Kade of something he wanted but I can’t help it. Liam and I can’t work together, it’s obvious. “Why don’t you grab your backpack while I speak to mummy.” Liam told Kade before setting him down and he raced up the stairs with excitement. I took a gulp of the water on the table while he walked closer to me. I have no idea what we were supposed to say, last night ended terribly and I have no idea how to go about it. “Hey baby” he whispered as soon as he got to me and he pulled me closer. This felt so wrong but I let myself feel it nevertheless. I wasn’t going to let it get to me this time, this would probably be the last time we would be in the same space for a long time and I would make proper use of it. He tilted my head back a bit before grazing his lips against mine and my hands went around his neck automatically. I pressed my lips to his and he took charge of the kiss very fast. His hands went around my waist and they pinned me to his body while our tongues continued to battle for dominance. I could feel his erection poking me and I grounded myself against it slowly. “f**k it baby, if you keep doing like this. I doubt you’d be able to make it to your pack today.” He whispered against my lips and I continued grinding myself against him without any care in the world. ________ Eight hours flight and we were jet lagged already. I was too tired to imagine everyone’s reaction plus I have to carry a sleeping Kade on my back too. This was the first time my baby is flying for so long and it definitely had an effect on him. He would sleep for days and as for me, I have no idea if this nervousness in my belly would make me get a good sleep. I fired a quick text to Liam telling him we just landed. He has been dead a*s worried and I didn’t want him to feel more worry. A soft smile made its way to my face as I remembered how we parted, hm fingering me right on the kitchen cabinet and l*****g off the juice right away. The fact that Kade could catch us made everything more fun. I wasn’t supposed to be doing this but I can’t help it. Things would go awfully wrong with Liam but I still can’t seem to fit him off our lives totally. Call me selfish or whatever but I want him with me while another parts of me doesn’t. I looked around the reception and my mother stood there. She was still trying to find me but I found her first. Tears welled up in my eyes as I saw how much I’ve missed. She looked way older than she was supposed to be and I guess the stress of the hospital would do that to you. I have experienced it too and I don’t think it’s something you want to experience. “Mama…” I managed to croak out before the tears stopped the rest and she came charging towards me. I was still holding on to Kade when she pressed herself to me. I don’t bother about dropping everything I’m holding, I wrapped my hands around her in delight. I have missed my mother so much and I had no idea how much I missed her until now that I’m seeing her again. This was my mother, mine. We both started crying and everyone was staring. This was definitely not the reception I was expecting considering I didn’t listen to her as a child. “You’re so big now Becca. I can’t believe I’ve missed so much of your life.” She said when she pulled away and I wiped her tears with my hands. I have no idea what to say to make everything better. She saw me last when I was an eighteen years old adult with a broken heart and now she’s seeing a 24 years old single mother. Talking about Kade, he was watching the whole exchange in confusion and my mother bent to kiss his head. “You must be the famous Kade, I’m so excited to meet you. I’m your grandma.” She said to him with a smile and he flashed her another of his smiles before wrapping his tiny arms around her. This was definitely better than any reunion I’ve planned in my head. I walked out of the assigned room to take a night stroll and I had no idea why I was feeling restless. This wasn’t the pack I grew up in anymore but something kept on pushing me to explore. I’ve heard stories of how the knew alpha was ruthless and he didn’t take any mistakes from anyone but something kept pushing me towards the garden. I wanted to take a night swim in the lake or maybe dip my feet in the water and get rid of the tension and tiredness in my body. Kade was asleep already with mom and I am going to start work tomorrow. Something about that made me at peace, mg people might not be where they want or be under the leader they deserve but I was doing my part for them by helping out with the hospital. Most of the people who moved out with their mates never came back again. I didn’t know it was that bad here. I walked into the garden and I hate to admit that the new alpha took great care of it. The entire place was filled with fresh flowers and I can bet that there’s a person that’s hired to take care of the plants here. Shawn’s father didn’t pay too many attention to this place and it was kind of deserted. Me and Shawn would come here too many times to steal kisses and touch each other when everyone’s asleep, funny how we never got caught. I paused when I felt like I wasn’t alone, it’s my first night back here and dying mysteriously by the pool isn’t something I want. Who’s going to spend time with my mom and who is going to raise Kade? I took calming breaths and I walked gingerly towards the pool. I have no idea what to expect so I tried to blame the uneasiness on the fact that I haven’t been here in years. I removed my shoes before cranking my feet. “Don’t tell me you’re going to dip your foot into the lake just like that. Do you want to kill the fishes?” Someone asked and it took my whole energy not to fall into the water from shock. I thought I was alone and I didn’t expect anyone to accuse me of animal cruelty just some hours after I just got back. I turned around to give the person of piece of my mind, that was when it hit me. The voice! I knew it and it hasn’t changed a bit even in the last six years. If anything I would never forget how that voice moaned and grunted my name several times all through the night. I searched for him but I wasn’t successful, it looked like he had suddenly vanished off the face of earth. At some point, I was convinced that the moon goddess sent me one of her angels to sleep with me and knock me pregnant as a punishment for slandering her in anger. It didn’t make sense to anyone but that was the story I stuck to and the story I told Kade too. “You…” I trailed off as I tried to make sense of what as happening before me. That was the only thing I was able to say when our eyes met. Merely looking at him was doing numbers to my body. I’ve not been with anyone like him since then and I surely do remember how he made me feel. That night was engrained into my memory for years. Something was definitely pulling me towards him and the more I wanted to leave, the more I feel rooted to the spot. “You left me.” I croaked out finally and he scoffed. He freaking scoffed like I was being dramatic of something. I shouldn’t have said anything, the bastard doesn’t deserve me nor the tears that were starting to swell up in my eyes. “What a nice way to say hello to your mate.”
