Chapter 9

Kelly knew she had limited time to herself before her sister and nephew arrives. Immediately after the call, she grabbed her purse, shoes and phone and made her way into the room. She felt her stomach cave as it gave a rumbling sound just as she opened the bedroom door. She was hungry but has no appetite. She hasn't even stepped food in the kitchen since she got back last night. She had just few bites of toast and coffee in the morning before leaving for work. William made it and though, she only took a little, it was with love. She couldn't make her way around lunch too as she was busy with work and also making sure nothing ruins the surprise party. All her thought was that she would finally be able to eat at the party after knowing full well that everything went according to plan. Well, it was all well and good on her side, just that William also had his own surprise plan. She caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror and then stopped to get a better look. She didn't like what she saw. It's no surprise Xavier almost fired her and Rose also reacted like someone who had just seen a ghost. She looks so terrible. Eyes red and swollen shot, her cheek bone was even more visible than it should, it was as if she lost so much weight in just a space of a day. Her stomach rumbled again which jerked her back from her thoughts. She rubbed gently on her belly while sleeping her head sideways and checking it out in the mirror. She seemed to have gotten enough look after staring intensely for about five minutes. She heaved a deep sigh and let it out slowly as she got up from the chair and went straight into the bathroom. Freya would be at the house any minute from then and it wouldn't do her any good looking so rough and homeless. She would so choke her with questions and might even call their mum, who would definitely escalate the whole thing. "I just can't deal with mom's drama, no, no!" Kelly said to herself as she stepped under the shower. She felt a kind of relief as the water rushed all over her. She stood there for another five minutes, enjoying the freshness and warmness. She didn't waste anymore time, she threw a purple t-shirt on and jean shorts, combed her hair and then packed it into a neat bun. Finally, she applied a very light makeup, just to pull the attention from her hangover eyes. She had barely stood from the dressing table when the doorbell went off which made Kelly raise a brow. Freya has the keys and could just get in without the extra doorbell noise but it's like she enjoys the sound it gives. Despite Kelly's incessant complaints about it, Freya would still ring the bell every time and then use the key immediately after. "Can you ever change?" Kelly asked with a pretend angry expression as she Freya and Milky entered. "I don't ever plan to." Freya smiled and answered while Milky ran towards Kelly and jumped in her already opened and inviting arms. "My cute cute Milky Miller!!!" Kelly let out with so much excitement as they both hung tightly on each other. "I've missed you so much aunty Kelly." He replied with a cute broad smile. "Can I have him all to myself please? He is definitely the missing piece in my life's puzzle." Kelly asked. Although she said it in a casual playful way, deep down, she wanted it to be true. She has always loved children and its obvious in the way she treats them and how they also love and connect with her easily. This love was more compounded when Miller came into their lives. The first time Kelly held him in her arms, she knew right then how much she wanted a child of her own. She even mentioned it a few times to William, who though didn't oppose the idea, never gave a stand either. Now that she was holding Miller in her arms again and having those tingling feelings, she couldn't help but think if it was probably the -having kids talk- that scared William into leaving. Probably he doesn't want children anytime soon and was scared she might talk him into it. "Kelly!!" Freya called out to her a third time. She had wandered so far into thoughts that she couldn't hear her sister calling her. Even Miller who always enjoyed her warm hugs, was not getting a bit stifled off after being held tightly for so long. "Yeah," Kelly answered while gently dropping Miller on the chair. "Are you alright? You seemed lost in thoughts." Freya asked in a concerned voice and a scrutinizing look. "Of course, I'm fine, was just thinking about how I would steal Milky away and make him all mine." Kelly quickly cooked up an excuse which she hoped would work and get Freya off. Well, it didn't. Her shaky voice gave her away which made Freya look into her eyes more intensely. One look and she saw the sadness she was hiding under the makeup and forced smile. Freya knew right then that all wasn't okay with her sister but decided to play along till she's ready to get it out of her. Nothing was going to stop her, even if it means sleeping over and probing her till midnight. "Do I get to decide?" Milky asked with much excitement as he jumped up and down on the couch. The awkwardness that was slowly starting to form vanished into thin air immediately he said this. The two sisters looked at each other and smiled before turning to the little one. "Don't tell me you're going to choose her over your parents?" Freya asked with much confidence but the reluctance on Milky's face crushed that confidence so fast. "Over me? Your mom?" She quickly tried to win him over but little did she know that the heart knows where it belongs. "But I love my aunty Kelly so much!!!" He replied with so much innocence. Kelly screamed so loud when he said this. She hugged him passionately again, took him off the couch and then both did a quick turnaround. All the while, Freya just stood there and watched in defeat as the two jubilated. "You know we love mom and dad so much, so let's not do that to them, huh?" Kelly finally chimed in while Milky gave an affirmative nod and then extended his hand to Freya to join in on the celebratory hug.
