Chapter 1. The big news.
The moon was brighter than usual this night and Jasmine was sitting under her favorite oak with her almost destroyed book. The younger pups of the clan used it as a toy and once she found them biting the edge of the book Jasmine had jumped over them without any hesitations. She stood on her four and made a weak snarl at the pups.
Out of respect they backed off and ran out of the current tent they were hiding in, but she knew as well as they did. It was a weak snarl. If the elders were around they would have laughed at her. Not only laughed but they would for sure look down on her as a soon to be a she-wolf.
This thought made her skin crawl and she stood up again, looking at the brown leather that was supposed to be the front of the book and brushed the dirt off.
Jasmine shook her head when she felt the midnight wind caress her cold cheek. The water splashed the shore as the wind was carrying its wave up to the main land. This was perfect. Finally some alone time, she thought the herself.
Tomorrow was the day, the day she turned eighteen. Something was sparking within her and she could feel it. It was like a ball of fire that was trying to get out of her body. It was a tingling feeling and Jasmine knew that her inner wolf wanted to be free, free after eighteen years of being imprisoned.
"Jasmine..." Someone interrupted her thoughts.
"Jasmine!" She recognized the voice and turned her head around as she would do like always.
Out from the woods came a shadow running towards her.
As the shadow came closer she could tell that it was the body of her father. A big guy with big muscles that would have scared any other. Jasmine had to admit that he was a scary looking man, but she knew that he had a heart of gold.
When the shadow became more visible she could tell that he was sweating. He must have been running for a long time, she thought and giggled to herself.
When he arrived he made a fast halt almost falling on top of her with his big body.
As he got back his balance he stood still for atleast three minutes taking big breaths like he never breathed air.
And then he looked deeply into Jasmines hazelnut eyes.
"I've got some great news, my love." He said and she could see a gentle grin forming on his face.
Jasmine was dead silent still amused with her father's "show" earlier, waiting for her father to continue the news that was so important that he had to ruin one of the few moments she had alone.
"We found you a mate, and you know him very well."
Jasmine was shocked and wanted to speak, but had no words to speak with. As she sat there watching her father being happy, Jasmines emotions had gone from hundred to zero.
"It's Mika, Jamille's son. You know, the tall handsome guys...."
As his words were fading away Jasmine felt nothing. Her thoughts were spinning around and she wasn't sure which of her all thoughts she wanted to pinpoint.
She knew very well who Mika was and her father was right. He was good looking but she disliked the things he stood for.
"It's the Alfa's job to do this and that, and the she-wolf is just there to follow him."
Jasmine wanted to puke, she knew that her wolf would eventually come out tomorrow, but her human mind was not ready to find a mate.
"It's not fair." Was the only thing she could say in-between her fathers mummering.
It went silent for a few seconds and her father was staring at her more intense this time.
"Excuse me?"
"Explain!"
Before she could he stopped her.
"It's not fair that some she-wolves wont find their mates."
"It's not fair that you reject an offer better than anything."
Jasmine answered her fathers gaze with a narrowed stare.
"The elders and I are doing this for your sake and future. Mika is a good kid, he's a good hunter and he will eventually bring you pups that will be legendary and something to be proud of." As he said that a glimpse of hope was clearly showing in his eyes.
"I will not tolerate anything else, and you Jasmine. As my daughter you shall and will obey my orders. And as the chief of this clan I will not tolerate a no."
Before Jasmine could say a word he turned around and ran back from where he came from.
