Grayson's Pov

seeing her shaking under the table made me to loose my cool a little bit, I tried to be calm but she was not helping. Davon laughing make me want to laugh as well

but now was not the time as I could see she was beginning to be uncomfortable.

" I don't want to be a slave anymore please, I can do any work but not being treated like a slave"

Her body shook as she continued

" And I have been treated like that my whole life so it didn't matter, but now I fear to be treated like that that again "

What has she gone through exactly, I wanted to know. why would anyone want to hurt the little being.

" we should head back to the pack before sundown and you are coming along"

I announced feeling like I'm about to burst with anger and my wolf was threatening to come forward.

I had told Davon that it's better if she goes with us back to the pack today so that she can have protection of the pack. No one would dare touch her in there, except I allow it. it's no longer safe for her to be out there plus with the way those guys behaved with her earlier made my blood boil and they might come back again.

" No please I don't want to go to any pack please, that is where it will get worse, they will treat me bad and I don't think I would be able to take it please."

She said folding her hand begging me not to take her to the pack. I felt compelled to gather her in my arms and comfort her, to reassure her that she is safe with me.

" you will be protected and no one will be touching or treating you anyway you don't like, I promise you that."

I pushed my food away from me no longer having the appetite to finish them.

" Hey let's not waste food some people don't even have food in their homes"

I just stood up and pushed my chair behind to aid my movements.

" we should go back by noon, Zara finish your food fast" I said as I made my way to the bedroom, not waiting to find out about my outburst as I didn't care. I felt it was better to go back than be stuck in the room with the little beast as she didn't know what she was doing to me, her innocence look ceased to surprise me and I don't want to give it a chance. I hear Davon coming in and he just stand by the door not saying anything and look at me.

" what's happening man?"

"which what?"

" I don't know you seemed a bit of"

" I am fine no need to worry about me"

we stayed quiet for a while as the silence became uncomfortable.

" what do you think of Zara?"

He asked amid my silence.

" What about her?"

" Nothing! I am just asking what you think of her, I just noticed the way your whole body and thinking changes around her, you are not someone who would get upset just by a mere conversation...."

He paused, seeing my facial expression, he took a step back and continue.

" Look I'm just saying, she reminds me of your mate, I thought maybe she might remind you of her too."

he finally finished and I sign scratching the back of my neck

" she is already causing troubles for me and it's only been a day."

I replied, turned and picked up a change of clothes to wear .

" I don't understand that.......you know the girl was just scared, you heard her. I don't think she has caused any troubles that is too much to handle."

" I assure you that she has "

" stop talking in riddles Greyson, tell me what's going on, what is that is bothering you about her behaviour."

" you won't understand Davon just drop it"

" No we are not dropping it , surely there is something and you are not telling me. we made a promise not to shut each other out, that we will share every problem that we come across but now this , whatever it is that is troubling you , you are refusing to share. come on man"

"Zara is my mate"

"What?"

" That is the trouble"

I wasn't sure about the exact reaction I would get from Davon. I have no thought about it but he should find out now before anyone else. He is my second in command. No matter what the outcomes might be I shouldn't keep something as delicate as this from him.

" why would you finding a mate be a problem, man it's good especially after everything that you have been through, you deserve to be happy again."

" I don't know man , you know I don't want a mate ,m fine on my own ."

" When did you find out?"

" last night.........I know it's only been years since my mate but......" he interrupted me.

"Have you told her because she seemed unaffected by the bond or does she know?"

" No she doesn't know and I didn't tell her and I don't think she knows anything, I believe something happened to her before she tried to kill herself last night, I'm going to take my time to get to know everything before I tell her, only will I be able to know what to do."

"what do you mean something happened to her"

" I head the little pricks that were trying to hurt her in the woods say she was rejected " I mention anger visible on my face.

" what, who rejected her and how the hell did she survive the rejection?"

" I don't know and for now I shouldn't care"

"what the hell"

"what?"

" you have to tell her in fact you are not going to reject her too, you are going to make her our Luna. You will get to know everything as you put it while she is with you in the pack. it's been years without a mate like you were saying . you should grab on the gift you have been given without wasting much time."

" it doesn't matter, I was never looking for a Luna or mate, I am still not looking for one."

" you need a Luna by your side, do you know how many people are trying to dethrone you because they think you can never be their king without a mate and u will not be stronger."

" nonsense why would I need a woman to rule my own kingdom."

I was pissed at what he said, I don't believe in this nonsense that he is spouting and besides this mate thing will never work lm good on my own not being able to report to anyone nor Care deeply for someone. who I'm I kidding the mate bond is taking all my senses

" mate! we need mate and she needs us as well. her wolf is in pain I tried to reach her but she is afraid, we need to help them."

i felt a pang in my heart and I knew i need to do something.

" if you dont tell her I might as well do it."

" No i will tell her on my own terms and preferably when we are already at the pack, I need to figure out how to do it "

" fine I will give you that but don't take too long because I don't think it will be nice to hear this from someone else, and if we are at the pack she won't know where to go after the reveal and we will make sure she is protected at all times "

I nod at at him understanding where he is coming from and the turmoil in my heart continue to grow. I know he meant well but I can't just let her in my heart ,it's been closed ever since what happened with my mate, I will tell her but she will have to know that she will have to perform her Luna duties only and stay as far as she can from me.
