I woke up at six like I always do and got straight in the shower and then got dressed into my silk red button-down shirt that Kari got me for my birthday two years ago. And then I put on my black dress pants. You see I was hoping to run into her this morning. I found out four years ago during my first shift that Kari was my mate.
She was only fourteen at the time and I could not do that to her. Everyone that lives in the pack house which is just the alpha and beta that she was my mate. Well, that is everyone but her.
I knew the moment she stepped into the kitchen the smell of cotton candy and sweet peas engulfed me in its wonderful smell. Its mouthwatering. I turned a little fast then planned. The look on my face must have looked meaner then planned to because of my wolf and my beautiful mate dropped her head like I had just used my alpha voice.
“Good morning Leo. How are you?” Her voice was like that of an angel. Blazes ears perked up and his tail was wagging like crazy at the sound of her voice.
“Mate.” My wolf said excitedly.
“Yes, mate but you know we still have a week before we can claim her, and you know. You also know that even though her family may know that doesn’t mean they won’t be overprotective of her, she is the baby after all.”
Blaze my wolf is dark grey with silver fur is the shape of flames. I blocked out Blaze and softened the look on my face to a soft smile.
“Oh, Kari good morning. I am good thank you. I didn’t mean to startle you I’m sorry.”
She finally looked up at me with her sexy lavender eyes. Blaze howled his approval of our mate when she looked at us like that. She does not even realize when she gives that look.
“It’s okay, I just wasn’t expecting anyone down here yet.”
“Yeah, I have to go to the high school and start planning for the ball. What are you doing up so early?”
“Hahaha silly, I still have a week before break starts and school starts in an hour.” Her laugh always makes me week in the knees and gives me a serious hard on.
“Oh, ahahaha.”
I heard her oldest brother fand my future beta Axel sneaking up behind her and he scoops her up and gives her a hug and a kiss. I growled at him; I know he is her brother, but Blaze does not like any males including her family touching her. He let her go and smiled widely at me over her head.
“Cool your jets Romeo I’m just giving my baby sister a hug.” He says through our mind link.
He cut me off before I could respond.
“Good morning little sister why are you up so early?”
Kari rolled her eyes at him and told him the same thing she told me. She then looked past me and Axel to the coffee pot with longing in her eyes.
“Now if you two will excuse me I need a coffee and a bagel and I need to get going.”
‘Yes ma’am.” Axel says laughing. “You want me to give you a ride?”
I did not hear anymore. I let out a very deep growl. Both Kari and Axel turned and looked at me. But the look she gave me with her head tilted to the side with her lavender eyes.
“Leo, are you okay?”
Just the sound of her voice snapped my wolf back in control and calmed him.
“Yeah, I’m good.”
Axel then proceeded to look at me over her head and smiled like he was planning something.
“Yo. Leo you are going to the high school, right? Can you give Kari a ride for me? I don’t want her walking alone this early in the morning and her being so close to her change next week.”
My heart and Blaze jumped with pure joy. I quickly gained control of both.
“Yea sure no problem. I’m heading that way anyway.”
What Kari did not know though was that it was also her birthday party and for her first shift. Her eyes lit up and I knew it was the mate bond but you could tell that she didn’t quite understand.
“Really!!!!! Thank you.”
We walked out the door after she drank her coffee and ate her bagel. She gave her brother a hug and we left side by side to my car.
