Chapter 4

*His POV* It wasn't unusual for me to join my scouts on patrol. I enjoyed running. My wolf needed a break and a distraction. Lately, I have been getting a lot of s**t from people on not having a mate yet. I needed a Luna. I let out an annoyed growl. I wish people would get off my tail about this. I won't take a chosen mate. I want and will wait for my fated mate. I was running through the south border when I was mindlinked by one of my scouts. “Alpha, we got something out towards the eastern river border. Might wanna come check it out”. Great. I needed this. Hopefully this gives me a release from the stress I have been under. I turn and run towards the eastern land. I heard the water flowing and lifted my nose to try and scent the intruder. At first I couldn't find anything. Then it hit me. Orchid, Coconut, and sandalwood. Honestly, the scent made my wolf purr. I kept looking and padded towards the scent. Then I saw her. She was laying half in the water and half in the bank. She was naked but that was not the concern. She had large lacerations and bruises along her entire body. She was also unconscious. I shifted back and gently picked her up. She was limp in my arms. Her body was ice cold. s**t! “We need to help her. Now.” my wolf said in my head. He never cares about this sorta thing. “Hold on. Don't you die on me”. I felt my wolf squirm uneasily in my head. s**t! I need to get her some help now! “Tyler! Sam! Call the doctor, we have an emergency!” I called for my gamma and beta as they came running over by me. They nodded and ran off towards the pack house. I felt a strange pull and furrowed my brow at the feeling. I looked down to see some of the most piercing blue-green eyes. “Hey! There you are. Just hold on okay? We will get you help.” I couldn't help the way the words came out. I was so happy to see she was alive but I needed her to stay alive now. I wasn't watching where I was going, lost in those eyes. I stepped in a hole and almost dropped her. She screamed out in pain and her face contorted before she passed out. “Way to go dumbass! Get her to the doctor now!” my wolf was growling and impatient with me now. I felt horrible. I didn't want to hurt her and yet I did. I pulled her to my chest and took off towards the packhouse. I walked in the door and headed to the infirmary. Tyler and Sam were waiting in the hallway with the doctor. With one look Doctor Foster ushered us in. “Quickly put her on the bed! What the hell happened!” He began to hook an IV and monitors up to her. He began to look her over and grabbed some stitches. Quickly and efficiently he stitched her wounds closed. Her thigh was the worst along with her side. “I think she has some broken bones too, Boss” I wanted to punch something. Why was I getting so angry? “Doc, can you tell what happened to her?” I asked, trying to ignore my rage. He looked up at me but quickly averted his eyes back down out of respect. “Alpha, this girl, it's a miracle she's alive at all. I would not hold my breath though. She could very well crash at any moment”. I could not hold it back anymore. My wolf was raging in my head. The growl that escaped my lips left the room with an ominous feel. The doctor and a couple nurses that were in the room were shaking in fear. I cleared my throat before apologizing. “I’m sorry, I just hate seeing people being treated this way”. I tried to believe that was it too but honestly my wolf had never acted like this before. I tried to reach him but he was distant with me. “Blaze, what is happening? You never act like this”. He took a moment to respond. “I… I don't know Jake. I just.. Feel so protective over this female”. I sat thinking for a bit trying to understand his words. “It’s alright bud. She was put through a lot it seems. I can understand being upset at that idea”. I tried to calm both of us down now. Deep down I knew there was something strange about this urge. Sure I was normally very understanding and I tried to be fair and caring to all of those in my packlands. But this female wasn't in my pack and I did not know her. This couldn’t be the mate bond because I do not feel the ultimate urge to mark her. What was this feeling? I watched the doctor as he began to check her wounds and vitals again. I saw him inspect her leg. “Alpha, she has a dislocated hip. I am going to need help to stabilize this. Can you bring in that gamma and beta of yours please?” I nodded and mindlinked Ty and Sam. They entered only moments later. “Alright. Tyler grab her ankle. Sam I am going to need you to help hold her thigh up and on the count of three we are going to pull her leg out and then push it back in. Got it?” My men nodded and I sat watching as the doctor counted up to three. The moment I heard the cracking sound I was blinded and the soul piercing scream rang through my head. I could hear my men's voices yelling at me but I could not respond to them. The scream continued on in my head and my eyes remained shut. I fell to the ground and my wolf cried out in despair. Soon the screaming stopped. I sat on the ground of the infirmary slowly opening and closing my eyes. I saw Ty was standing over me, concern clearly written on his face. “What happened Boss?!” He asked. “I.. That scream..” I started “What scream?” Sam asked while looking down at me from across the room. I rubbed a hand down my face. “She screamed and it must have been too high for my ears or something…” “Boss… There wasn't a scream”. Ty said. “She's been out cold since finding her,” Sam continued. I didn't understand this. What did I just hear? I swore it was her screaming. I sat up slowly and Ty reached out to help me stand. I took his hand and was pulled to my feet. I looked at the Doc who eyed me warily and then my gaze landed on her face. She was pale, skinny, and covered in bruises and cuts. She had many scars across her skin that made me want to punch a wall. Despite her near death look she was actually quite beautiful. She had long lashes, her hair was fairly long and was silverish in color. She had a smaller nose, her lips were plump and although a bit dry and all the color drained from them, I could imagine what they looked like with a rose-y color to them. She was so skinny and her bones poked out in multiple directions. I just hoped that we could save her. She was so frail. I wanted her to be okay and learn more about her. She intrigued me and my wolf.
