Whistles came from all angles. Snickers followed from some too. His voice was low and he bent down to look me in the eyes.
“There's my pretty little wolf.” he snickered. “It would be a shame to lose such a prize”.
I didn't understand this. Why was I a prize? I looked up slightly at him.
“Oh honey. You don't even know what you are, do you?” he asked with sarcasm dripping from his tongue.
My head lifted more.
“You see, little wolf, you really are a rare abnormality. The day I killed your pack I was looking for what I was owed. Your dad took a lot from me and I wanted it back. I was going to kill you and his mate in front of him but plans changed. When I found out you had escaped I was gonna just kill you once I found you. But then what do I see but Daddy’s little princess in her wolf form at only 8 years old. Bravo by the way for that.”
He stopped and clapped slowly. I couldn't stop staring blankly ahead of me.
“But it wasn't your age or family that made you special. Oh no. It's that lovely fur of yours. See sweetie, youre what is known as moon kissed. You are personally a rare genetic freak. See moon kissed wolves were some of the strongest and most powerful wolves in the world. But there were only a handful of them. Males were even more rare but damn were they strong. Such beasts. The females though, were still rare but more common than the males. Such beauty and strength. And worth so much money. When you reproduce you are almost always guaranteed a moon kissed pup too. Because of this most of your kind were killed. Either suicide or murder.”
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I couldn't move.
“That's why I kept you, Love. But you, you want to be a stuck up b***h! Sure I could sell you but…”
He leaned in closer and spoke with pure animosity.
“If I can't have you, then no one will ever have you.”
My heart pounded against my chest.
One by one I watched as the men around me closed in around me. They all looked down at me and smiled. It was full of indignation. I felt the first blow to my tail. Someone stepped on it. I let out a yelp and jumped around. Then a blow to my ribs again. Next was a punch to my face. I yelped and whimpered as they beat me over and over. It wasn't until one of the men walked from his spot beside me towards another male further down. I had an opening and I was gonna take it. I pulled myself upright and ran quickly into the forest. I didn't know where I was or where I was going but anywhere would be better than here. I heard the howls as the men shifted to their wolves and were chasing after me. I was bleeding so I would be scenting through the entire woods as I ran. I swerved and tried to hide my scent. I was not moving quick enough because one of them slashed at me from the side. My ribs were bleeding now. I let out a small growl and yelp but kept trying to push forward. The pain was throbbing. I kept running but I could hear them approaching quickly. I heard water and knew there had to be a river close by. I turned and followed the sound. I stopped when I saw that I was at the top of a large rock formation and the river was moving quickly below me. It was a far drop and I couldn't tell how deep the water truly was. I went to back up but I was stopped by growling. I turned to see Jameson and his mutts snarling at me. I was trapped. He lowered his head and began to pace around me. My ears dropped and I tried to watch for another opening. I ran forward just to be grabbed by my throat. I was thrown to the ground. He furiously scratched and bit at me. I cried out as I felt my body becoming more and more bloodied. He then grabbed me by my back leg and dragged me to the edge. He snarled once more before pushing me over. I don't remember hitting the water, only darkness. This is how I would die.

The water was rough and I was thrown around a lot. I knew my wounds were severe and eventually I would probably bleed out. I felt the water slow after a while and I was washed up onto a shallow embankment. I couldn't move. I was exhausted. I felt my wolf shift back into my human form. I was now naked, wet, cold, and covered in injuries. I lay in the water and mud and closed my eyes. This was it. I was the reason my family died. Something I knew nothing about, I had no control over. I was ready to die too. I would rejoin my family. I started to lose consciousness when I felt some warmth. Death was warm.
“Hold on. Don't you die on me”.
Death speaks? Wait. I tried to open my eyes but I was too tired and too weak. I tried to focus on my surroundings through scent and sound. I could smell something. Mahogany, vanilla, and pine? It smelled… good? I could hear the sound of the river fading. Footsteps and a heartbeat now filled my ears. Was I imagining things?
“Tyler! Sam! Call the doctor, we have an emergency!”
My heartbeat quickened slightly. I was in someone's arms. I was being taken somewhere. Was I going to be a slave once again? I put all my energy into my eyes. I needed to open them to see who this was. I strained and strained and finally got my eyelid to crack slightly. I saw messy short brown hair, silver eyes, and a strong face. Through the collar of his shirt I saw the edge of a tattoo poking out. And a scar ran along his jawline. His eyebrows furrowed for a moment before looking down at me in his arms.
“Hey! There you are. Just hold on okay? We will get you help.”
His voice was urgent, strong, and yet kind and caring too. I felt at peace. He must have tripped or slipped because we jolted a bit and the pain shot through my body. I grimaced and cried out for a second before everything went dark. I had passed out again.
