*Nicole's POV*
I felt suspended in the air. It was like I was light as air and heavy as stone. I saw nothing but darkness. The air around me was cold. I could hear voices. They were whispers but I tried to focus on them.
“Quickly put her on the bed! What the hell happened!” I heard someone say.
I felt them poking and moving my body. The feeling where your leg is asleep but when you touch it it feels like hot numb pain. That's what it felt like.
“I think she has some broken bones too, Boss”
Who was talking and who was this boss? My heart sank at the thought. I was completely helpless here and I didnt know who had me.
“Doc, can you tell what happened to her?” I heard a familiar voice. It sounded urgent and emotional.
“Alpha, this girl, it's a miracle she's alive at all. I would not hold my breath though. She could very well crash at any moment”.
I could only assume this was the doctor the last man was talking to. Was I dying?
I low growl vibrated the room and it made me cowar. What the hell was going on.
“I’m sorry, I just hate seeing people being treated this way”. The voice said again.
There was pressure on my leg. I wish I could see what was happening. I knew it was badly injured. s**t all of me was badly injured.
“Alpha, she has a dislocated hip. I am going to need help to stabilize this. Can you bring in that gamma and beta of yours please?” That sounded like the doctor again. So my hip is broken. He continued speaking and my stomach churned.
“Alright. Tyler grab her ankle. Sam I am going to need you to help hold her thigh up and on the count of three we are going to pull her leg out and then push it back in. Got it?”
The counting started. 1… Inhale. 2… exhale… 3… inha..
The bones cracking and going into place rattled through my brain. It was excruciating and I could not stop the scream that escaped my lungs. I blacked out in my mind once again.
I don't know how long I have been out. Time felt weird here. I was too weak to even move or open my eyes. I waited for something, anything. I tried to reach into the depths of my soul. I saw my wolf. She was still so pretty. She was large for a she-wolf. I was the daughter of an alpha. Her fur was white as snow. Her eyes were an icy blue with green rings on the outside. She was beautiful. I missed her. It has been years since we last shifted. She actually pushed to the depths of my mind a year after I was taken. She couldn't take the abuse and pain. It was nice to see her again.
“Hey Winter.” I said to my other part.
“Hi..” She responded without lifting her head.
“What happened Win?”
“Nicole, I.. I'm sorry..”
“What for? You did nothing wrong”
I sat down and ran my fingers through her fur. She placed her head on my lap and whimpered.
“ I couldn't protect us.”
“Oh Winter. This is not your fault. You did what you had to do. I do not blame you for anything”.
I bent over and hugged her giant head. I wanted to cry seeing her like this.
“Nick… I need to tell you something..”
I stopped frozen and looked at my wolf.
“I didn't want to worry you… Please do not be angry with me…”
My brows furrowed. I looked over and as my wolf moved slightly from her position I noticed a gash along her side.
“Wha.. what happened?!”
“When we were running and I got tackled… I can't heal…”
My throat felt like it was closing. My wolf isn't healing and I couldn't help her.
“I think they poisoned me..”
I couldn't stop the tears that fell down my face.
I held my only friend and sobbed into her fur. I was losing her.
She began to shake and whimper. Her voice was almost nonexistent.
Soon I felt my body convulsing. Losing my wolf and being this weak was more than enough to kill me now. I wish these people didn't try to save me earlier. I could have been at peace.
I heard screaming and yelling. I was losing myself in my own mind. I watched as my wolf lay still against me. I couldn't believe this. I let out a sharp cry before laying down on her.
Soon I felt nothing but warmth. I could have sworn that it was fire flowing through me.
As the feeling worked through my body I felt stronger. I looked at my wolf and saw that her wound was healing quickly. I gasped as she began to stir under me. She nuzzled into me and I into her. She was still alive. We had a lot of emotional and mental healing to do still but being physically strong was a step in the right direction. I laid there with her until I felt myself coming back to the forefront of my mind. I was more aware now. I could smell the scent of cleaner, blood, and THAT scent. Mahogany, vanilla, and pine. I felt a small warm buzz against my skin. I willed myself to open my eyes. It took so much energy but I ended up lifting my lashes just to see an extremely handsome face staring back at me. His uneven yet perfect smile stretched across his face. I heard my wolf come forward and whisper one word.
“Mate?”
My eyes closed again as I was consumed with exhaustion.
