It has been a few hours since Lana freaked out from the pain in her chest. I had no idea what was going on. The doctor also said the test results revealed the same as what they previously had, so there was nothing that she had missed when they admitted Lana after I brought her in. Dermont has also been checking in a few times, also bringing me some paperwork to sign off on. I was thankful for a Beta like him. Yes, he was my best friend growing up, we were practically inseparable. But, he had a hold on all pack-related matters ever since I brought Lana in, he would only bring all the urgent work that needed my attention.
I saw Lana stir a bit and I knew that she was starting to wake up again. I immediately shot up out of my chair and stepped over to her, taking her hand in mine. I caressed it slightly with the pad of my thumb. Lana seemed a bit disorientated. She looked around the room once more, seemingly trying to figure out where she was. I quickly pressed the call button for one of the nurses to come. Lana was in the Alphas wing, the nurses were always here in a matter of seconds once this button was pressed. As predicted, a few seconds later, a blond nurse popped her head in the room. "Alpha, is everything alright?" she asked with a sweet smile. I just nodded my head.
"Please inform the doctor that Lana is starting to wake up again" I instructed the nurse as I turned my attention back to Lana. "Lana? Hey, sweetie! Are you feeling okay?" I asked her, trying to speak in the calmest possible voice that I could muster. Lana just stared at me, confused still. I saw her blinking furiously, trying to figure out what was going on around her. Lana just slowly nodded her head and looked away from me. I wondered what was going on. Was she shy? I haven't heard her voice at all ever since she woke up a little earlier. I saw her trying to scream but no sound left her mouth, only small whimpers.
"Alpha, Lana! I am glad to see that you are awake! Lana, how are you feeling?" The doctor asked as she took out the file next to Lana's bed. Lana just nodded her head, still not making a noise. The doctor just stared at Lana confused. "Lana? Can you hear anything that I am saying and do you understand me?" she asked Lana as she stared at her, waiting for an answer. I saw Lana look around the room, contemplating whether or not she would answer. Lana just nodded her head at the doctor, still not saying anything.
"Doctor? What's going on?" I asked the doctor as I stared worriedly at Lana. I had no idea what was going on. Did she not speak? The doctor just scribbled some things down in the chart before looking at me, and then back at Lana again. "I think this might just be her body's way of shielding her from all the trauma that had happened. Remember, I picked up on the tests that this isn't the first time that something like this happened. Maybe we need to gain her trust first and let her heal. Perhaps then she will open up to us" the doctor said with a sympathetic smile.
Rage filled me on the inside and I was ready to head out back to the Bloodstone pack and end them for what they did to my poor mate. I couldn't understand how their elder council has allowed something like this to go on for so long. The doctor quickly snapped me back from reality when she called out my name. "Alpha, could I please see you outside for a few moments?" she asked as she motioned to the door with a look on her face indicating that there was more that she wanted to tell me, just not in front of Lana. I just nodded my head and picked Lana's hand up, bringing it to my lips and giving it a quick kiss.
"I'll be right back, okay?" I whispered before placing her hand down right next to her and following the doctor out of the room. I closed the door behind me and followed the doctor over to the nurse's station. "What is it?" I asked her, hating the feeling of not having all of the information. The doctor just looked around her, making sure that there were no other nurses around us. I just gave her an expectant look.
"Alpha, I did some further digging into this case and found medical records in a confidential portal on the medical council. Needless to say, I made use of my former profession and hacked the system to access her file because it didn't make sense to me why it would be in the confidential portal. Anyway, have a look at these" the doctor said as she took out a few x-ray photos from a file and handed them over to me, making me see what looked like pictures of different kinds of broken bones.
"What exactly am I looking at?" I gritted through my teeth. I had a suspicion of exactly what this was, but I didn't want to accept the fact that I might have been right about this. I could feel Alexi trying to push for control. I knew that if I even took a step back and let him have full control, he would go out on a murder spree and wipe out the entire Bloodstone pack, Goddess knows they deserved it.
"These are all films that belong to Lana. Look, here is one of a broken wrist, a broken arm, her pelvic bone was severely damaged as well in this one. But, what's even worse, look at the dates on these. They were all taken on the same day. Which meant that whatever had happened to her when you found her, she has been through a lot worse. Honestly, something tells me if you didn't find her when you did, she would likely be dead" the doctor said as she spoke the harsh reality of the situation.
"f*****g hell" I muttered to myself as I pinched the bridge of my nose in an attempt to try and calm down. I looked over at Lana's door, wanting to just walk inside and cradle her close to me, comforting her and making sure that she knew nothing like this would ever happen to her again, not as long as I was breathing.
"You will likely have to have a lot of patience when it comes to her Alpha. She has had a difficult past and I don't think she trusts us. She knows she is in the hospital and that we are trying to heal her. That much I can definitely pick up on, but I am scared of what the future might hold for this poor girl. We will just have to give her time to adjust and gain her trust. She needs to feel like she's at home right here. I need to ask a big favor. I know it's difficult to hear all of this, all of the damage that was done on her, but I need you to stay calm when you are in there with her. You can rage outside that closed door. But, she needs to see that you are not a threat to her" the doctor advised me. I know that she was right and that she was making a valid point. I nodded my head.
"I know, I know I need to handle this situation with a little bit of extra sensitivity. Please make sure that there ardent a lot of strange faces that goes into that room. Make sure that the same nurses are on the rotating shifts with her until she gets discharged" I instructed the doctor as I turned around to get back to Lana.

A knock on the door distracted me from all the thoughts as I stared at Lana's sleeping body. She was supposed to look peaceful as she slept. However, her face showed her pain, the whimpers while she slept, everything clearly showed that she was anything but peaceful. "Come in" I said, waiting for whoever decided to disturb to come in. Dermont quickly peaked his head inside. I motioned for him to come on in as I stood up and walked over to the farthest corner of the room.
"What is it?" I asked him as I quickly gave a glance over to Lana, making sure that we didn't wake her up. Dermont also gave a quick glance over to Lana before turning his attention back to me. "Sorry to disturb you, Alpha. The guards at the entrance to the packlands said there are Alphas here to see you. They haven't let them through yet, we are still waiting on permission from you. But, you might find a little bit of murderous joy when you find out who it is that wants to see you" Dermont said, with an evil glint in his eyes. I just squinted at him, waiting for him to elaborate some more.
"The triplet Alphas of the Bloodstone pack" Dermont said, and I could see a smirk break out on his face. Those three had a lot of nerve to show up here. I quickly looked over at Lana, not really wanting to leave her side to deal with those idiots, but I also didn't want them to come inside here and be close to her. Goddess knows the chaos they will cause.
"Fine, have them meet me in the conference room. I also need you to be in there with me, just as a precaution to make sure this doesn't turn into a slaughter" I said, before Dermont quickly gave me one of his silly salutes and left the room. I walked back over to Lana's sleeping form. I pulled up the blanket a little, to just below her chin and gave her a quick kiss on the head before walking out of her room, closing the door behind me.
I tried to take a few steady and calming breaths as I walked to the packhouse. The conference room was situated just below my floor so I knew that they would likely already be inside by the time I arrived. As predicted, the three idiots sat inside the conference room along with Dermont, waiting for me. I was easily bigger and stronger than the three of them combined, it would only take a matter of seconds to take them down.
"Alphas of the Bloodstone pack, to what do I owe the pleasure?" I said as I walked into the conference room and closed the door behind me. I made my way over to the head of the table, fully knowing that their eyes were on me. "Dermont," I said as I gave him a quick nod before I sat down. I looked over at the three of them, waiting for them to explain to me why they even dared to come here without an invitation.
"We've come here to bring our sister home" Alpha Jesse said. I just glared at him before I stood up, making sure they knew exactly who they were dealing with.
"Listen here, Alpha Jesse, you came here without an invitation. Let me make this clear if you ever set your feet on my packlands again without an invitation. As for Lana, she is my mate, I will never let her go back to you. You fuckers almost killed her, and from the information that we got, this isn't the first time. Now, take this as my warning and get the f**k off my territory before I have the lot of you killed!" I said, standing up and leaving. Alexi was practically begging me to go back there and rain all hell down on them. I just needed to get back to Lana. She was my safe space, she was where I would be calm.
