Jess frantically started calculating escape routes, trying to find a way clear which wouldn’t put him too close to the battleships, the battlecruisers or the large groupings of cruisers and destroyers. There wasn’t one. Whichever route he took would put him in range of far more firepower than the Wanderer could withstand. He’d strike back, but there was no way the Wanderer could even those odds.
Even so, he had to try. There was no other way and the net was drawing tighter by the second. He was about to order the Wanderer into action when a section of the Imperial fleet opened fire.
