The Much Awaited Call.

Laura's POV. It's a bright Wednesday morning. I sat in my office handling a file sent to my table by the Alpha when my phone rang. I picked up my phone and quickly looked at the caller ID which showed the name of the most awaited personality. Alpha Duncan Morris. I quickly picked the call. "Hello, sir," I said. "Hello, this is Duncan Morris of the Crystal River Pack, am I on to Luna Laura of the Golden Emerald Pack?" "Yes sir, you are very much speaking with Luna Laura." "Good," he said. "First, I apologize for the delay in calling you after my birthday party. I was very busy with Pack work and then making sure that everything went back to normal after the party. I also apologize profusely for not calling you at all after the incident at the mate claiming ceremony. Are my apologies accepted, Luna?" "Absolutely sir, your apologies are accepted," I said. "Good," he said. "I would like to start from the first incident. it's very important, so I can clear my name and reputation. Did Alpha Josh ever tell you I called him immediately after the mate claiming ceremony?" he asked. "No, he didn't," I replied. "Okay, I want to tell you I did," he revealed. "I asked him back then why he would even take part in a mate claiming ceremony when he has a Luna whom I presume to be his mate. In fact, I was furious with him why he would openly claim another woman when his wife was also present. I did all of that as a friend. I hope you know that as a fellow Alpha like himself, I have no power or authority to sanction him?" "Yes, I know sir," I responded. "Good. So I could only advice him as a colleague and I did, but unfortunately, he didn't tell you. His excuse then was that he discovered that girl, Shirley is his real mate. It was then I knew you're not his real mate. It was then I knew that you went ahead to marry each other without actually being mates, Isn't that true, Luna?" he asked. "Absolutely true, Alpha." "Okay. So, he told me he found it very hard to reject his mate, Shirley, when he found her. He confessed to me actually, that it was contrary to the arrangement he had with you when when you had the marriage. Then I asked him why he had to claim her publicly even in front of you, his Luna and legally wedded wife and he said he couldn't help it, as the mate bond is very strong. So Luna, can you now see that I actually spoke to him? Can you now see that I was actually worried about what he did to you?" "Yes sir, I'm now convinced after your detailed explanation.. So, I'd been wrong all the while, thinking you didn't even bother to talk to him. I'm sorry, Alpha please forgive me." "No, it's alright, Luna, there's nothing for you to apologize about. I think I'm also at fault, even though I'm not aware he didn't tell you about our discussion. I should have called you to inform you about what we discussed." "Yes sir," I agreed with him. "So, concerning what happened at my birthday party I was very much shocked just like everyone, including your husband was shocked. I called him after the incident, he told me he was so confused he doesn't know how to react yet," Alpha Duncan revealed. "Well, I know Alpha Daniel Thorpe, for quite a long time, though we just recently became friends. So, can you tell me what Alpha Daniel is to you? I mean, what is the relationship?" I cleared my throat. "He is my real mate, my moon goddess assigned mate." "That's very interesting, Luna. I shouldn't be asking you how you discovered he is your mate because every Werewolf recognize their true mate whenever they see them.. So, congratulations on finding your mate, that is all about that, Luna." he said. "Thank you, sir," I replied. "So, tell me something, Luna. I told you I know Alpha Daniel previously. Like I said, I've known him for several years. So how did it happen? Do you know him before and decided to meet at my party or it was just spontaneous, I mean you met him at my party for the first time?" "Actually, Alpha Duncan, I never met him previously. I never even heard his name previously. He was a total stranger to me until we met at your party and we recognized one another as mates," I explained. He chuckled. "Congratulations, once again. So you have me to thank for inviting him to my birthday party? isn't that so, Luna?" I laughed. "Yes, Alpha, I really have you to thank for inviting him to your party otherwise I would never have met him. So thank you, Alpha." "Well, it's the moon goddess we have to thank for arranging everything, surely not me, I was only kidding, okay?" "Okay," Alpha. "But, Luna, there's something I don't understand which I would want you to explain to me, concerning what happened that day," he said. "What's it, Alpha?"I asked. "Seriously, why did you decide to put up the kind of public display you and Alpha Daniel put up that day in full glare of everyone present including your husband?" I sighed heavily. I knew it would come to this. I knew Alpha Duncan would eventually ask this and I was prepared to give him a proper response. I cleared my throat. "I had to do that to your friend, Alpha Duncan. I suffered so much humiliation in the hands of Alpha Josh that I decided to throw caution to the winds and teach him a lesson he would never forget." "So you knew you threw caution to the winds that fateful day?" "Yes, Alpha, I know I threw caution to the winds that day. I know what I did could have caused a physical confrontation between two Alphas and your birthday party could have ended in a fiasco. But I was not botherd. I was too bitter with Alpha Josh to even put that into consideration. Yes, if it had happened, I would have apologized to you afterwards. That's all." He took a deep breath. "Thanks to the moon goddess the unthinkable did not happen. Both Alphas acted with maturity, especially my friend, Alpha Josh. I commend his maturity. He took everything very calmly. I would have been very much hurt if my party had ended in a fiasco, nevertheless, I would have accepted your apology." "Thanks, Alpha," I replied. "Your husband told me you've filed for divorce." My jaw dropped as soon as he made that statement. My body twitched as I held the phone to my ears. I didn't know that my husband and Alpha Duncan had what I could call an almost daily communication between them. I never knew they talked so frequently. I never really thought Alpha Duncan would have heard about the divorce action so soon. Anyway, there's nothing more to hide about it since he has already been told. "Yes, Alpha, I have filed for divorce," I confirmed. "I think I'm no more against it," he said surprisingly. "I would have been against it if you haven't found your mate, but since you've now found your mate, I have no objection to it." "Good to hear that from you, Alpha Duncan." "Yes, I mean we have to be sincere. The mistake was already made from the beginning. You two were not patient enough to wait for your real mates. You were blinded by love and had to rush into what I would like to call an arranged marriage. Because that's what it is.. You never bothered to think of the future consequences and that is what we are seeing today." "Sure, we both made a mistake, Alpha," I admitted. "I don't know how much he has told you about the divorce but I plan to meet him within the next twenty four hours or thereabout, so that we can reach an agreement to make the whole process faster." "That's alright, Luna," he said. " You can. go ahead with that." "I'll want you to help me do something, Alpha." "What's it, Luna? Just tell me, then consider it done." "I'll want you to persuade him to sign a joint agreement with me to help hasten the process." "That's hardly a problem for me, I'll get it done." "Thanks, Alpha." "It's been a pleasure speaking with you." With that, Alpha Duncan ended the call. As the call with Alpha Duncan ended, I could not help but reflect on the encounter I just had with him. It's quite obvious that I've really misunderstood some aspects of his character despite knowing him since I came over to this pack to become the Luna. Even though I'd always known him to be humble, the manner he just related with me further reinforced that impression I have of him. After I picked his call and he was to introduce himself, he didn't even use his title. He just mentioned his name and said he was calling from the Crystal River Pack. This is an example of humility and I'm pretty sure it's one of the reasons he's well loved among his fellow Alphas. I had been totally wrong about what I thought was his uncaring attitude towards what his friend had been doing with Shirley, especially his decision to formally claim her at a public mate claiming ceremony. I never knew he was displeased and even chided his friend for doing that. What surprised me the most about him after today's chat was his frankness and open mindedness about the divorce issue. I never expected to hear what I heard from him. And his willingness to help me chip in a word with his friend in order to hasten the whole process is definitely an icing on the cake. After this encounter with Alpha Duncan, I have resolved never to make conclusions about anyone until I've heard their point of view. I've been so wrong about Alpha Duncan all this time, and I must confess it had been unfair on my part. Thankfully, he has set the record straight and everything is now okay. As soon as I was done having a brief moment of reflection over my discussion with the Alpha, I took the file I had temporarily put aside and continued working on it. After minuting it to the Gamma for his attention and necessary action, I pressed a bell and one of the wolves attached to my office opened my door and came in. "Take this file to the Gamma's office," I said. "Okay, Luna," he said. He then took the file and went out.
