Seth POV
I ran for miles even though I knew there was no way she could have gotten so far from the pack. She can't shift. She was on foot and the southern border leads to neutral land that is heavily wooded. She didn't even have f**king shoes at the hospital. She must be terrified. My chest aches at the thought of her fear. When we find that ba**ard, I'm going to snap his neck for taking my mate from me.
The entire pack has been searched and f**king Evans and Anna are the only two that are missing. I pray he didn't do anything to Anna if she tried to stop him. He had to have taken Fawn, but where the f**k would he go? He came into our pack three years ago because he could no longer live in his birth pack. He seemed like a decent enough wolf when I first met him.
His arrival happened at the perfect time because our pack doctor never had pups and was ready to retire. Pack transfers happen all the time for a variety of reasons. The elders and my father approved of him joining the pack, so I never really cared about his reason until now. "Maybe you f**king should have. He took our f**king mate, and we couldn't find a scent of either of them. This is your fault for listening to your father," Baron growls. "We will find her, Baron. She is ours. She would never leave us willingly."
The sun is starting to rise just as my father links me. "Son, you need to return to the pack. Anna's parents are waiting to speak to you, and they insist it's important," he says and cuts the link. Thankfully, we are almost back to the pack. Maybe they can tell us where the hell Anna is. Maybe she wasn't involved in what happened to Fawn at all. I know she would never betray the pack. Her parents taught her loyalty to her alpha above all other things. That's why she wanted to be a warrior.
I used to laugh at how much her father and mother acted awe-struck when my father spoke to them directly. When we finally reach the pack, Baron runs straight to the pack house. We shift, and I pull on a pair of basketball shorts. I step into the pack house and its chaos. Pack members are talking about Fawn. Most are distraught about their missing Luna, but a handful are suggesting she was betraying me with Evans.
Baron is already on edge, so hearing them even suggest something so disgusting has him ready to take control. I stalk toward the group, my hands fisted at my sides. A set of eyes meet mine and fear flashes in them. "How f**king dare any of you suggest that my Luna would betray me," I growl. The group of five warriors turn to face me and drop their gaze to the floor. "Alpha," one of the men start to say, but my fist connects with his face before he can finish.
He falls back, knocking three others to the ground with him. "Let me make something perfectly clear. If I ever hear you talk about my Luna in such a way again, there will be no banishment. I will snap every one of your f**king necks and throw your bodies to the rogues. Am I clear?" "Yes, Alpha," they say in unison. I turn and make my way toward the stairs. Anger is making it hard to breathe. The sound of footsteps behind me has my steps faltering.
I turn just as Gabriella steps onto the landing. She has the good sense to keep her eyes cast down. "Alpha, even though I was standing there I said nothing about the Luna. I would never disrespect her after your warning. I just wanted you to know that," she says. "You are a f**king l*ar. You think I don't know that you planted that seed of discord among those men. You must think I'm stupid." "Of course not, Alpha, but I swear to you I said nothing about Luna Fawn," she says.
"Leave my sight. We are done. You aren't worth the trouble. I've changed my mind. You aren't worthy to carry my pup." She lifts her eyes and panic flashes in them. She takes a step toward me and Baron takes control. He lunges toward her and grips her by the throat. "I should kill you. My human may act in accordance with rules and rationale, but I'm a beast. A beast that wants to make sure when my Luna returns you are gone," Baron says.
I fight him for control. Not because I care about this disgusting b**ch but because her death will bring too many questions. "Not right now, Baron. You will have your time with her. I agree she is a threat to our bond." He finally relinquishes control and I drop her to the floor. She gasps and sputters trying to pull air into her lungs. "I suggest, if you want to keep breathing, you stay out of my sight. I've made it clear you are nothing to me. Now leave before I let Baron do his worst."
She finally rushes back down the stairs. "You will not touch her again," he says. "I agree. Right now we need to focus on finding Fawn." A few seconds later, I push the door to my office open and my parents and Anna's are already waiting inside. "Did you find her," my mother asks, getting to her feet. Tears are clearly staining her cheeks.
Despite her stoic demeanor towards Fawn, I can tell she has come to care for her. "Calm down, love. If he had found her he wouldn't be here talking to Lindsay and Carl," my father says. "Not yet, mom, but I will. I won't give up until she is back home with us." She nods and retakes her seat next to my father.
I move to take my seat behind my desk. "My father tells me that you have something important to talk to me about. We still haven't found Anna, but I assure you the moment we do you will be the first to know." "Alpha, we believe that Anna is with Luna Fawn. She cares deeply for her. She has said many times that Luna Fawn was definitely the perfect choice to become the mother of our pack. She cares about others regardless of rank. She is kind and strong," Carl says.
"I know that Luna Fawn is fond of Anna. She is also a very good warrior. So, if she is with my Luna, I know she will do her best to protect her. What is it that you felt was important enough to call me back from the search? These are things that could have been discussed upon my return." Worry flashes in Lindsay's eyes when her husband looks toward her. "I never thought she would betray you, Alpha Seth," Lindsay says.
My heart starts to race. "Explain now." "A few days ago, I went to Anna's room to tell her about dinner being ready, and she was angry. Angrier than I've ever seen her. I could tell her wolf was at the surface. When I asked her what was wrong, she asked me what I would think if I found out that you were going against the goddess and using a breeder to produce a pack heir," Lindsay says. My hand tightens into a fist.
"Keep going, Lindsay. Tell him everything," Carl says. "I told her I didn't think you would do such a thing, but if you did, it was for the good of the pack. It didn't mean you loved Luna Fawn any less. She told me she was ashamed of me for condoning such disgusting behavior. She asked me how I would feel if my mate betrayed me. She was so angry with me," Lindsay says.
"My son would never do such a thing. Why the hell would your daughter ask such a question," my mother asks, anger clear in her voice. "She said that one of the female warriors confirmed that she was the alpha's breeder. She completely stopped our conversation and told me to leave her room. I knew she was upset, but she loves this pack. I knew after she thought about it, she would realize you were doing what was best for everyone," Lindsay says.
A rock forms in my stomach. I never wanted anyone to know that I intended to use a breeder. That I agreed to violate my bond because of Fawn's rank. I didn't want the pack looking down on my Luna. I look at my father. Anger is clearly written on his face. "You will not repeat what your daughter said. Am I clear," he says. "Of course, Alpha," they say in unison. "You can both leave." They immediately rush toward the door. Once it clicks closed, my mother is on her feet looking between us.
"Is what they said true," she asks. "Love now is not the time," my father starts to say, but she cuts him off. "Answer my question," she says turning her focus to me. "Did you betray Fawn?" "Mom, I swear to you the only woman I love is Fawn." Tears roll down her cheeks again. "I have never been ashamed to be your mother or your mate until this moment. If you think she doesn't know what you have done after screwing a she-wolf in this pack, then you are the biggest fool in this kingdom. I hope you don't ever find her," she says, turning toward the door.
Before she reaches the handle she turns back toward my father. "You supported this. You encouraged him to cheat on his mate," she says. "Love, she was an omega. We needed to think about what was best for the pack," he says. She raises a hand to silence him. "I will be moving my things out of our room. You are not the man I accepted all those years ago. That man would never have supported such despicable behavior from our son," she says. This time she leaves. The closing of the door making my chest ache.
"She will understand after she has time to think," he starts to say. "Enough, dad I'm exhausted. I'm going to my room to sleep for a few hours before I start to make phone calls to the surrounding Alphas." I stand and leave the office without another word. I make my way to the room I share with Fawn. My chest aches worse when I enter our bathroom and see all of her things. Baron has completely retreated in my mind. Ten minutes later, I'm showered and in a comfortable pair of sleep pants.
I slide onto my side of the bed and pull Fawn's pillow into my arms. The crinkle of paper has me lifting the pillow to find an envelope with my name on it. My heart starts to pound against my chest when I stare at Fawn's familiar scroll. My hand shakes as I move my fingers to tear it open. My mother's words echo in my ears as I pull the letter from the envelope.
