Seth POV
I sit up and try to steady my hands as I unfold the paper. My mouth feels dry, and sweat begins to bead on my forehead as my eyes see how the letter is addressed.
The Letter
Cheater,
I never thought I would be writing a letter like this, but I guess our lives are full of surprises. I never expected to be a Luna. I never expected you to accept me when you realized I was your mate. I never expected most of the pack to support our bond. I once believed that I was blessed to have such an amazing mate, but over these last few days I've learned every moment we have ever spent together was a lie. Every time you told me you loved me was a lie.
Every minute you said that my rank didn't matter, it was a lie. Lying there in that hospital after I passed out and listening to you tell Derek to kill our child shattered every illusion I had of our bond. Hearing you tell him to incapacitate my womb so you could fill another's with your pups was the final blow to our already dying bond. Watching you f**k another she-wolf in the pantry of the pack house just ensured that I would never forget the vision of the pathetic man that you are breeding your wh*re.
I hope that you never find another day of happiness as long as you live. I hope that every choice you've made that destroyed our bond comes back to haunt you until you take your last breath. I know that I should forgive you so I can let go of the hatred that has replaced every single shred of love I had for you, but I won't. You may have been born an Alpha, but you aren't worthy of being my mate. You aren't worthy of being an Alpha.
If you've found this letter, then I've escaped this horrid bond and you. Live in the knowledge that you will never see me again. With any luck, our bond will die after the disregard you have shown for the goddess's gift. I know that even if I couldn't speak the words of rejection to you directly, I feel them in my heart. I reject you Seth. I may have been born an omega, but I deserved a far better mate than a cheating, lying a**hole like you.
Your Ex-mate and Ex-Luna
Thorn POV
I step into the dining room and make my way toward my parent's table at the front of the room. My steps falter when I see Fawn and Anna seated next to my mother. She is gripping Fawn's hand before pulling her in for a hug. I'm not sure why I'm thrown off by her presence, but I am. I knew they would be joining us today, but I've felt unsettled since she stepped off behind the trees yesterday. "There is something special about her," Atticus says. I fight the urge to roll my eyes. "She is mated to an Alpha, Atticus. She is not ours."
"She obviously isn't happily mated, or she wouldn't be here Thorn. Besides, I know you feel it too. That's why you insisted that Arden carry her, which I didn't like, by the way," he says. "Enough Atticus, we have waited this long for our fated mate and I have no intention of making some random woman our queen." He growls before he recedes in my mind. What the hell is his problem? We have always been on the same page about the whole mate thing. We want what my parents have. Especially after hearing what happened between my Aunt Gemma and Uncle Alfonso. I never wanted some random she-wolf making my queen uncomfortable.
I agree she is special, but she isn't ours. I know he is growing impatient, but she will be revealed to us when it is time. I take my normal seat next to my father just as Derek steps into the dining room. I notice my brother immediately stiffen when he notices Josie stand from her table in the middle of the room. What the hell does she think she is doing? Does she actually think she has the right to talk to my brother after what the hell she did? Without a second thought, I'm on my feet and stalking toward my brother.
Josie and I reach him at the same time. "Derek, where have you been? It's been years. We need to talk," she practically whispers. "Why is it that any of your business," I ask before he can. Josie turns to look at me. "Thorn, I was talking to Derek. He is my mate. We need to talk about what happened. We can still have a good life together," she says. "You mean you want to make excuses for being a wh*re." "Thorn, let's just go. We can have breakfast in your office," Derek says.
"Derek, please. I made a mistake," Josie pleads. "A mistake is forgetting to lock the door to the room that you were supposed to share with me while you f**ked my ex-friend. I gave you the chance to reject me and continue your relationship with him, but you insisted that you only wanted me. So no, I won't give you another f**king minute of my time. Now run along to the man that you chose to betray me with," he says.
I laugh, and my brother looks at me with his eyebrows raised. "He found his mate after you left. He didn't even offer her a second glance after that. Personally, I think it's the goddess's karma for her being such a sh**y person. She is going to get to watch you be happy with your second chance, while she will never know the kind of love the bond blesses us with." She bursts into tears and I realize the entire dining room has gone quiet. They are watching the scene unfold. When I look back at my brother he simply nods.
We both make our way out of the dining room. I'm grateful when she doesn't follow us. "I don't understand what the hell she was thinking. How did she think that conversation was going to go? Did she think I would just forget how she f**ked me over," he says as we make our way to my office. "She was hoping that you would still feel the bond, since she never accepted your rejection. She doesn't realize how powerful our grandmother is or her connection to the goddess."
We step into my office and I close the door behind me. "I thank god every day she was able to break our bond," he says. Just as we both take our seats, there is a knock on my office door. I call out for the person to enter and one of the omegas brings in a large tray of food. I smile because I'm sure its my mother's doing.
Once she is both gone, we dig into our food. Thirty minutes later, I sit back in my seat and he does the same. "So tell me exactly what the Alpha of the Fire Moon pack did to warrant losing his Luna." "He betrayed her," he says. "Not that it isn't a good reason, but there has to be more Derek. We took a Luna from her Alpha. It isn't the first time or the last a pr*ck will betray their mate."
"She could have just rejected him. Was he abusive? Did she fear his reaction because he had harmed her in the past?" Atticus growls, but I ignore him. "I really think she should be the one that tells you, mom, and dad what happened to her. All I can say is you know my wolf is a lover, not a fighter, and he wanted to rip Seth's head from his body," my brother says.
He is definitely right about that. He trained as part of the royal family, but he much preferred being in the infirmary patching up warriors then making them bleed. Just as I'm about to link my father to see if they are done with breakfast, he links me. "Dad wants us in their office now."
My brother looks panicked as he gets to his feet. "What the hell is wrong with you," I ask as he reaches for the door handle. "I haven't told Fawn or Anna who mom and dad really are. I didn't want to freak them out. I also didn't want to have to explain why I left the pack," he says. I throw my head back and laugh. He glares at me before rushing out the door. This should be an interesting meeting.
