Chapter 1
"Cora Lynn Jones! You'll be late for school if you don't get down those stairs this minute." Cora grabbed her bookbag and used her vampire speed to run down the stairs. "Cora, how often do you have to be told, no vampire speed in the house?" Cora's mom, Betty, asked her. "I'm sorry, mom, I'm just excited. It is my birthday; after all, I finally have a chance to start looking for my mate today." "Yes, well, just keep in mind, he may not be a wolf," Her mother said as they walked into the kitchen where her dad, Henry, was eating. "Happy 18th birthday, baby girl!" Henry said as he engulfed Cora in a bear hug. "Your mother is right. Since you are a hybrid, he can be a witch, wolf, or vampire. There is also a chance he could be a lycan." Cora looked at her dad as if he was joking, "Dad, you know it's rare for a wolf to be a mate to a lycan. Think of how rare it would be for a hybrid."
Just then, the front door blasted open, and in came my best friend, who is also the Gamma's daughter, Mia. "Where is the birthday girl? We can't have the future Beta being late for school," Mia yelled as she came through the house to the kitchen. "I'm right here," Cora answered while eating a pop tart. "Well, come on, we can't be late. My car is running, and it doesn't run on fairy dust." " It would be cool if it did, seeing how your part fairy," Cora responded, getting up and following Mia out the door. Alex, Cora's cousin, and future Alpha, was already sliding into the back seat.
"I thought you would be gone for Alpha training by now." " And miss my favorite cousin's birthday, yeah, right." " I'm your favorite because I am your only cousin." " But no, seriously, mom and dad said I have to stay to meet the Royal Lycan Princes, who are arriving tomorrow." " Why are the Royals coming here?" Mia questioned as she pulled her car into a parking spot. "According to dad, they are coming because the king thinks that the Crowned Prince needs to get to know his future people," Alex answered Mia's question as they got out of the car.
They started walking toward the school when Alex's ex-girlfriend approached them. "Who are they? They had better not be your new toys," Ally sneered. "Ally, you know well that this is my cousin, the Beta's daughter, and the Gamma's daughter. So, unless you want it to slip to the Alpha that you disrespected the pack's future hierarchy, I would buzz off," Alex responds. Ally scoffs and turns around to go back to her friends. They continue to walk in the school when Cora's wolf goes crazy. "Lily, what is wrong with you?" Cora questions her wolf. "Mate," is the only response Cora gets.
