Chapter 5In retrospect, Melody knew something had to be wrong with the LyfeModulator. The simulation had rapidly sped up, but Kat’s GrateFULness meter hadn’t moved an inch, and it had been at least three hours. Before Melody could react or try to run diagnostics, Kat had began convulsing on the couch.
“s**t,” Melody snapped, leaping to her feet.
The LyfeModulator began beeping uncontrollably, setting off multiple alarms. Melody rapidly responded to each of the emergency messages, administering the security protocols that would prevent Kat from going into shock. Kat’s bleary eyes suddenly snapped open, and she stared up at Melody in a daze.
“Officer…?” Kat mumbled sleepily. “Why are you in my house?”
“Please try to stay calm.”
