Rheya POV
I was dead asleep when Maxwell and Dean burst into our room, waking Leo and I up. They were out of breath and clutching their chests in pain.
“What’s happened?” I asked them as I stand and walked over to them. “Something is wrong, Amara and Natalie are hurt.” Dean answered as they sat down in the chairs. I linked Zach, and Tyler to come to meet in my office immediately. Leo and I quickly got dressed and raced over to meet them.
“What is going on?” Tyler asked as soon as they came into the room. “Max and Dean said the girls are hurt.” I replied to him. He turned to them and they nodded, still in pain.
“What about Iris?” Zach asked and I shrugged. “If you don’t feel anything, odds are she’s okay.” I said trying to offer some comfort.
I then concentrated my mind into linking the girls. There was some sort of block up, and I could not break through, and neither could the boys.
“Turn on the tracker for the SUV’s” I said to Maxwell, he sat still sulking at the disconnection of his mate. “Maxwell, with Natalie gone, you take her spot, figure it out or we won’t be able to help them.” I said loudly as I pulled him up. He took a moment to steady himself before he was filled with confidence and left to get the laptop. For reasons like this, we installed tracking devices into all the pack vehicles.
“Zach gather your tracking team. We aren’t sure what we’re walking into, we may need to follow the girl’s scents.” He nodded and let his eyes cloud over to mind link.
“Deans gather some warriors and get the shifts doubled, until we are sure what is happening, I want all extra precautions taken. Wake Leilani, her and Ben are to oversee everything until we return.” Leo said to Dean and he quickly obliged. Leo and I sat at the desk, preparing for whatever was to come. After a few moments, Max came back into the office with the laptop.
“Okay, I’ve started tracking and it says they are almost to Klamath falls, about halfway.” He said and we looked over the map.
“How fast can we get there?” I asked him. “About 3 hours. If we speed.” He replied. “You know we will. Take the laptop and gather everyone in vehicles. I only want two vehicles going out. Warriors will take turns shifting to run as well, keep everyone ready and on their toes.” I said as well all rushed into action. Within twenty minutes we were loaded and on the road.
Iris POV
After about an hour the men finally disappeared and when they did, and I took my opportunity to look for the emergency cell phone. It took me a minute to climb back inside the wreck vehicle but when I did, I managed to find the glove box where the phone was kept. It was too far destroyed for use, so I sulked back to my hiding spot where I dozed off. Nature was my safe space so despite the feeling I had, it was easy for me to sleep.
I was awoken a few hours later by the sun hitting my eyes. I quietly but quickly shot up once I heard a few voices. I peeked out at the wreckage to see my family climbing out of vehicles. Everyone was looking through the vehicle, and once I spotted my lovely Owahei my body reacted and immediately took off in a dead sprint towards him.
Rheya POV
“Zachariah” We heard in the distance. Nobody reacted badly since the voice was familiar. I turned to see Iris running towards us, Zach took off towards her and met her halfway. Once we gave them a minute to reunite, we all made our way over to her, Iris hugged us all individually grateful to see us again.
“Iris, what happened?” I asked her once she had calmed down and stopped crying. She reached her hand up to my face, and I quickly leaned into her grasp. She touched her forehead to mine and images of what happened flashed through my mind. It was like watching a movie 4 times fast. I knew fairies had the power to memory transfer, but I had never experienced it myself. I was watching everything through her eyes, I could feel her pain and fear. It was heart wrenching to see what my sisters went through. Faces from her memories passed me by, until one stood out.
Alexander.
I leaned back in shock, “That son of a b***h!” Everyone looked at me confused until I told them what I had seen.
“Who was he working for? That spineless monster doesn’t have the smarts to pull something like that off.” Leonidas said in a bit of anger.
“I’m not sure Alpha,” Iris said in a small amount of fear. Zach wrapped his arm around her, and I placed my hand on Leo’s chest, making them both relax. “Zach take the trackers and try to find and follow the girls’ scent. Iris, I want to keep going through the memories and see if I can find any sort of identifiers of their loyalties.” I said and Zach nodded, gathering his men and kissing Iris before he leaves.
“Alexander has not popped up on any radars as of late. Nobody has seen or heard from him since the day he left, he could be working for anyone at this point.” Dean pointed out to us.
“Maxwell, Dean, contact local police and have this mess cleaned up, keep it under wraps. We can’t have this getting out.” Leo said as he handed the boys a wad of cash and a disposable cell phone. Anytime we have issues off pack lands we must refer to the human police to fix it, usually we need to bribe them.
“Iris.” I said to her and pointed to the car. We climbed in and sat in the back. I let her catch her breath and relax before I grabbed her hands. She took me back to the moment, and no matter how hard I searched there was nothing I could use. I finally came back to reality and Iris had a heart broken look on her face. “I’m sorry,” she said defeated.
“Think back farther Iris, was there anything out of the ordinary that you don’t think was important?” I asked her. She sat back for a moment before she popped up.
“There was a car!” She said as she grabbed my hands and brought me back. I watched as the same car came back around multiple times, coming up from behind and passing, then several minutes later it would pass again this time in the opposite lane. I watched the scene repeatedly until I spotted something, a license plate. A California license plate.
“Iris honey! You are a genius!” I said as I hugged her. “Just sleep and relax now, we got this from here.” I said as I hopped out of the car and called Leo over.
“What packs are from California?” I asked him, “That don’t align.” I had to specify.
“Umm, there’s the Rebel Reign and the Midnight Pack. Why?” He answered me. “Iris saw a car that passed them repeatedly, it had a California license plate. Odds are it was someone from that pack scouting them out.” I said to him.
“And the only packs who knew of the visits were the three we were visiting. Giving them the motive and knowledge to pull this off.” He concluded. I agreed. Zach came back with no trails to follow and eventually the cops showed up, pushing us off the scene.
In the car Leo and I explain the conclusion we came to and everyone agreed we needed to check out those two packs. The only question was how?
*Back Home*
Rheya POV
The ride home was uneventful and excruciatingly slow. By time we made it back it was late in the afternoon and Iris was exhausted, but we had work to do.
“Zach let me take her,” Leilani (Leo’s sister) said as she reached out to take a sleeping Iris from him. He hesitated before he kissed her head and passed her off. She didn’t stir one time and Leilani took her inside.
I watched as Leilani cradled her and took her inside. We had a rough beginning with her, she always wanted to fight and take down any rogue we came across. Eventually, my mother and father managed to real her back in and help her figure herself out, and they became the parental figures she needed for so long. After she came to terms with losing her parents, she trained all the time with Natalie and I, becoming one of the top warriors in the pack. Leo was so proud of her and all her progress.
“So, the plan?” Dean looked at me and asked. “It took me a while to come up with anything useful, but I think I’ve got it.” I said to him. I ushered everyone up to my office. Once everyone was seated, I began.
“The way I see I we have a 50/50 chance of the girls being at either pack. We get both Alphas from those packs to come to the ball. They won’t be able to resist coming now that they’ve taken our members. Since both have flights lasting at least 3 hours we head there the night before, in separate teams so we can hit both places at once. Since Alphas will be travelling most security will be traveling with them. We head down the night before and the second the Alphas leave we infiltrate and search for the girls. Whoever finds them, rescues them. Then meet back here in time for the ball. Once we have solid proof a crime has been committed, we can either disband them or get them to join us. Which in turn helps us find Nevaeh.” I said.
Surprisingly, everyone agreed even though it was extremely dangerous. We decided to let Leonidas call the Alphas since neither pack respected women, it would be easier for him to convince them to come.
Leo sat in his chair and slowly picked up the phone before dialing the number. It rang a few times before a female voice answered the phone.
“Wolf Protection Industries. How can I help you?” the small voice pepped out. Since we didn’t have either pack direct line, we had to go through their outside businesses.
“I’d like to speak to your boss.” Leo said in a cold tone. “Okay, well, I can schedule you for a meeting. When would work?” She asked and Leo scoffed. “It involves pack matters.” Leo said. The line went silent for a minute before she responded.
“I’ll transfer you now.” She said solemnly. The line was quiet for a few seconds before a gruff voice answered. “Who is this?” The man said.
“Alpha Leonidas of the Scarlett Rose Pack.” There was some shuffling on the voice before a different voice answered.
“What is it you want Leonidas?” The man asked in an amused tone. “Alpha Joseph. I request your presence at the Alpha ball this year.” Leonidas said casually. This pack had had civil conversations with us before and shown up to the past balls but were not attempting to align with us.
“With all due respect, I won’t become an alliance.” He said sternly. “Do not worry about this. This is just a chance to catch up that’s all. Our trail of Nevaeh has gone cold, so new faces who might’ve seen something makes a world of difference.” Leonidas said. He can be very convincing. The line was once again silent.
“Alright Leonidas, I’ll take up your offer. Be warned, there will be no talk of alliances.” He said firmly. Leonidas agreed before hanging up the phone.
“One down, one to go.” I said to him. He nodded before he picked up the phone and dialed another number. He was once again taken through the secretary route before he was finally transferred to the Alphas personal line.
“Alpha Leonidas,” the man sneered out.
“Alpha Thomas, I request your presence at the annual Alpha ball this year. We believe we can overcome our differences.” He said making sure to use formalities to offer respect.
“And why would I do that? I’ve got the second biggest pack; I need nothing from you.” The man said in an evil chuckle. “I’ll be blunt, we need your trust to search your lands.” I perked up. Leo was not supposed to mention the girls missing, but he put up a finger to silence me.
“What is it you are searching for Leonidas?” The man asked, he tried to keep his voice calm, but I could hear a hint of panic.
“I guess you’ll have to come to find out. I won’t discuss matters of a powerful witch over the phone.” Leo said as he winked at me, and only then did I understand his plan.
“Alright, Leonidas, you’ve intrigued me. I will attend this little Alpha ball.” He said. Leo thanked him and offered the details before he hung up.
We did a small cheer before we began to solidify plans, and then went down for dinner. Max and Dean were having a hard time, and Zach won’t let Iris out of his sight, but nobody can blame them.
