Chapter Five: First Day

Rheya POV “Okay, everyone aware of the plan and which team they’re going to?” I asked the room. Everyone nodded and agreed. We were splitting up into 5-man teams consisting of a leader, a beta, a tracker, the strongest and fastest warriors. We were small enough to travel unnoticed but skilled enough to do anything. In my group heading to the Rebel Reign Pack was Max, Zach, Camille, and Henry, and the ones with Leo heading to the Midnight Pack was Dean, Wyatt (who came out of retirement for this), Leilani, and Oliver. Today was Wednesday, and we were leaving Friday evening, giving us almost two days to prepare. We were all on edge, and the longer we were away from our family, the worse it got. Especially Max and Dean, they could feel everything their mates went through. Natalie POV I woke up dazed, confused, and chained. It took me a minute to fully wake and become aware of my surroundings. I was in a cell that was dark and grimy. I breathed in and the only smells were urine and blood, and of course Amara who just a few feet away. “About time you woke up,” She huffed out in her heavy French accent. “Beauty rest.” I said with a shrug. I grabbed the chains and pulled myself off the ground. It burns my hands and wrist the more I move, but it wasn’t terrible, meaning these chains weren’t 100% silver. I stretched out my muscles as much as I could, and a terrible pain shot through my left shoulder. I almost forgot I was stabbed. I looked it over, it looked about halfway healed, meaning we were only here for about 3 hours. “How do they have you chained?” I asked her. She copied my movements and stood up as well, gasping as the chains gripped her as well. “Remember my story?” She asked and I nodded. “There are advancements out there in torture, one of them being a way to hold vamps down. I never heard of the discovery anywhere other than-” She spoke but I finished her sentence. “Christians pack.” And she nodded her head. “You think this is the work from a few of his members?” I asked her. “It could be, or they just sold their secrets once they learned a vampire could be contained. People would pay good money to know those secrets.” She said. “Then why take us?” I asked her. “To rub it into Rheya’s face, he can take her closest family, her Beta and guard and there is nothing she can do to stop him.” I nodded my head, it made sense. We sat in silence for a few more minutes before we heard the door begin to unlock. “Well, good morning vermin.” The man said in a gruff tone. He was young and well looking, but he was evil which made him ugly in and out. He had an oddly familiar face that I just quiet couldn’t place. “Right back at you mutt,” Amara said. I faked an offended look, and she rolled her eyes at me. “You are my favorite mutt,” She said mustering up a silly tone. I gave her a small chuckle, and the man didn’t seem to like our banter. He quickly stepped forward and threw a punch into my ribs, and prodded Amara with some type of device, causing both of us to drop to our knees. I looked up to see him holding a sinister smile on his face before he threw another punch into my face, causing me to spit some blood. He then pulled out a small wooden stake and doused the end with a liquid before walking over to Amara. He took the stake and grazed it on her skin, causing a red line and smoke to appear from where it touches, burning her. He continued to scratch and poke her with it all around her body. Despite the pain I was sure she was feeling, she didn’t budge, reacting would give this man the satisfaction. “Ahh, a silent one I see?” The man said. He quickly turned on his heels before leaving the room, and while I hoped it was over, I knew we were far from it. I was correct, the man returned a few minutes later, right behind him another man entered. My blood boiled when I recognized the face. The years have done some damage to him, but I would never forget him, Alexander. “Glad to see you working for the enemy again.” I sneered out at him. He never once pointed his eyes to me, only Amara. “You can have the wolf; I want the vampire.” Alex said as he pulled something from his pocket, a small flashlight. Amara tried to stay strong as Alex turned the flashlight on and only then did, I realize it was a UV light. Another adapted form of torture for her. He slowly aimed the light at her hand and almost immediately her skin began to bubble up and smoke. Once her left hand was completely burned, he started in on her right, by now she was screaming a combination of English and French curse words at him. To which he responded by just simply smiling or laughing, truly enjoying this. “For killing my one true love.” Alex said. “That’s what this is about?! Some traitorous b***h that wasn’t even your mate!” Amara screamed back, earning a smack across the face. “Amara! Look at me! We will survive!” I screamed to her. She nodded her head in between thrashing about. “For my Alpha.” She mumbled out and I agreed. “Keep your eyes on me Amara. Look at me, don’t think of it.” I said to her. She strained to keep eye contact. My head was suddenly jerked in a different direction. “Eyes on me now.” The first man said before he hit me in the face again. I stood strong and wouldn’t let him knock me down despite more blood coming from my mouth. He took a few more hits on my face and stomach, but I wouldn’t go down. After a few minutes of my bare knuckle beating the man reach in his back pocket and pulled out a whip. But not just any whip, a whip with a silver tip, so not only was I guaranteed to be cut open, but it would be more painful and take longer to heel. The man brought his hand back and I shut my eyes. Hot white pain was all I felt across my stomach, and it almost made my cry out, but I held my tongue. A few more whips thrown at me until finally I broke and screamed. I looked down at my stomach to find an uncountable number of cuts on my stomach and thighs. “Now we’re getting somewhere!” The man explained. He reached into his other pocket and pulled out a bottle, and it doesn’t take a lot of knowledge to guess what was in the bottle. “Time to wash off.” The man said as he poured the liquid wolfsbane all over my cuts. During my screams and cries of pain, I heard Amara’s as well and turned to her being doused in a liquid, most likely holy water. “I think that’s enough for now warrior,” Alexander said to the boy. He nodded in agreement and both men turned on their heels to leave the room. I looked over to Amara, her skin was still smoking and even charred in some spots. She looked me over and made the same face I did, but I know I wasn’t looking to well either. “Will it heal?” I said referring to her sunburnt skin. “Most of it yes, but the charred spots I’m not sure. I’ve never been burned this bad.” She said in between breathes. “What about you?” She asked. “It’ll heal, slowly, and I’ll definitely have some scars.” I said to her. She nodded her head and we both dropped to our knees in silence. Completely exhausted. Lilith POV “Marcus, can you call Brittany for me? I am unsure of what to pack.” I said through the door. I heard Marcus’ muffled reply and knew it was a yes. After a few seconds he knocked twice. “Come in!” I yelled out. “Brittany is helping the cooks, but as soon as she is done, she will be here.” He said to me and I nodded. I caught sight of his knuckles. I grabbed his hand and pulled it closer to my eyes, examining them. “What the hell is this Marcus?!” I screamed at him. “Just getting work done,” He said in a sinister tone. I grabbed his face and pulled him down to my level, looking in his eyes and smelling his breath. He had been drinking. “What has gotten into you?” I screamed again. “Mind your spot Luna. This is part of the job.” He said in a laugh. “Not while I’m around. Who was being tortured?” I asked him as he straightened up. “Don’t worry about it.” He said and I quickly pushed passed him and walked down the hallway. He tried to run and grab me, but in his inebriated state I managed to push him off me. I finally made my way to Alpha Thomas’ office. I slammed the door open and was greeted with angry eyes and silent mouths. “Ahh, my dear Luna. What are you barging into my office for?” Thomas said in a firm tone. “Torture?! Really?!” I screamed at him. Marcus came barging in behind me. “Alpha, my apologies. I’ll take the Luna to her room.” Marcus said as he tried to pull me back, but I wouldn’t budge. “Don’t you dare touch me you evil man!” I said shoving him. He stumbled back, taken back by my strength once again. I turned to Thomas again, who was just as shocked as everyone else in the room at my power. Anger fueled me, and I was irate. “Everyone is dismissed.” Thomas said and everyone quickly shuffled out, not making eye contact with either of us. Once the room was empty, he tried to speak but I cut him off. “I understand you think there are things that need to be done to get answers, but you will never allow my personal guard to do that again. It is vile and disgusting and when I become Luna, we will be changing things. Until then, keep my guard clean!” I screamed at him. He was pushed back by my voice and I could see a small internal struggle even through his poker face. He nodded his head once and when I turned around to leave, he quickly got up and blocked my way. “You may be domineering with your voice, but don’t forget, I will always be stronger.” He said as he grabbed my face and threw me to the ground. I was shocked and even more so when he stood above me, screaming again. “Never disrespect me!” He said as he struck me across the face. My cheek stung and I could already feel a bruise forming. My eyes welled up with tears and he stood up, fixed his shirt, and returned to his spot at his desk before he called out to Marcus. He barged in and quickly helped me up. “Keep her out of my sight until we get to the Alpha Ball.” Thomas said as we left the room. I shook Marcus’s hands off me and walked back to my room alone. Marcus still stood his guard outside the door. I laid in bed and cried my eyes out until I heard Marcus open the door. “I’m sorry he did that to you.” I heard Marcus whisper as he crept closer to my bed. “Get out.” I said rudely to him. “Not until you smile. Look my knuckles are already healed!” He said as he said down next to me on my bed. I shoved his hands away, not wanting to look at hands of the heathen. “Lily pad,” He said in a cute voice, he was cheating, using our nicknames for each other wasn’t playing fair. I let out a small chuckle. “There you go. I knew you couldn’t stay mad at me.” He said in a giddy, childlike tone. “I am still mad, but I don’t hate you.” I said looking over into his eyes. I sat up and cupped his face, but more gently this time, “Promise me you will never hurt anyone again.” I said to him and he shook his head. “Promise me as Luna you will not harm another soul unless yours or my life is in danger.” I said to him and he looked at me. “What about the Alpha’s life?” He questioned me. “I can’t wait until his life is in danger.” I said in an eye roll. And before I knew it Marcus’ lips were pressed tightly against mine. It was warm and soft, but rough and I loved it. I wanted more. I pulled him into me, and I heard a small groan erupting from his lips. He quickly pulled back and wiped his face. I was confused until Brittany’s head popped through the door a few seconds later. She didn’t say a word but began packing my suitcase for me and I was thankful. Marcus gave me a wink behind her back, and I let out a giggle. He excused himself and left the room to stand at his normal spot. I eventually joined Brittany and we shared some small talk about the upcoming trip. I was excited to escape my prison even just for a few days.
