Chapter 56

CHAPTER FIFTY-SIX

After the dinner date Elias could not stop thinking about Agatha. He rolled on the bed that night wishing he kissed her goodbye as he dropped her off at her house. He was scared he would get rejected like in the movies he watched the fee times he had an opportunity to.

“I’ve never felt this way before, what is happening to me?” He soliloquized. He began realizing how much strength Rowland put into his relationship with Rose in order to make it work or with the previous girlfriend he had, the mother of Rebecca. He felt bad that he was the caused of Rose’s death, the one person Rowland loved entirely. “All his efforts was gone because of me” he said to himself.

The sound of his alarm woke him up and just then Elias realized he dozed off while thinking about Agatha. “I will have to ask her out soon” he said to himself getting up from his bed. He picked his phone and dialed her number.

It rang twice and on the third ring, she picked, “Hello Elias” she answered, “Hey Agatha, good morning” he greeted, “good morning” she responded. “Have you gotten ready for work yet?” he asked, “no not yet though I just finished having my bath that as why I wasn’t able to answer your call at the first two rings” she replied over the phone. “it is alright. I planned dropping you at work today” Elias said.

“Please don’t say no, please don’t say no” was what Elias told himself as he waited her reply. “Okay” she agreed. This word made Elias almost shout in excitement but he held himself. “I’ll come by soon. Just let me know when you are almost done so I can be on my way” he suggested and Agatha replied, “Alright, but please don’t be late” before ending the call.

Elias sped to the bathroom and had his bath in seconds. He dressed up and picked up his car keys from the table beside his bed. He whistled as he came down the stairs. Meeting Aza and Dinia in the kitchen downstairs as they prepared breakfast.

He entered the kitchen and greeted, “Good morning everyone” with smiles on his face. “Good morning” they responded. “What are you guys cooking?” he asked as he inhaled the aroma that came from the pot.

“We won’t tell you, just wait and get to see” Aza answered, “Wait? I have not the time right now” Elias said checking his wrist watch. “Going somewhere?” Dinia asked, “I’m going ng to work” Elias replied. “Work? This early?” Aza asked with a raised eyebrow, “you haven’t gone to work this early before” he added. “Well, there is need for change don’t you think?” Elias responded as he moved out of the kitchen to avoid further questions.

On his way out of the house, just as he held the door handle, his phone rang. It was Agatha, he picked up and said, “I’m on my way” and she ended the call. He opened the cdoor and said loudly before he stepped outside, “have a good day guys”. And he closed the door behind him as he walked towards his car

“Elias seems so happy this morning” Aza told Dinia who nodded in agreement before speaking, “maybe he woke up on the good side of the bed”, “or maybe, it is more than that” Aza said. “Well in whatever reason, I wish you happiness bro” Aza added as he continued helping his girlfriend.

Elias drove to Agatha’s house just in time, as she came out of her house the minute Elias’s car pulled over. She walked towards it, opening the door and entering. “You look beautiful and I love the dress” he complemented her, “thank you” she responds with a smile as they drove off.

In the office, Elias was happy that everyone got a hinge of it, “what is going on with the boss today?” they asked themselves in whispers. They could see Elias dance or move his body in rhythm to an unknown song. “Maybe he has won the lottery” one of the staff whispered to the secretary ass they watched him shake his waist, lifting his hands up and humming a song they haven’t heard before

Elias heard all the whispers that were going on in the office because he still had his super hearing but he didn’t mind. Unknown to them, he had asked Agatha to be his girlfriend and she said “yes” to him.

The joy that overwhelmed him was one that knew no bounds and for the first time in his existence he felt light. “as light as a feather” he narrated to Rowland when he came visiting later that day in his office. “I’m glad she did not reject you” Rowland replied, “Me too Row” he answered, “I won’t have imagined what today would have been like if I got rejected” he added.

“So what next Elias?” Rowland asked his friend, “the next step according to human books is to make her happy” Elias responded smiling at himself. “Well, I’m glad you are feeling so happy and light as you said but please try to control yourself in the office. Everyone is watching and thinking you have gone nuts” Rowland advised

Elias laughed and replied, “I know Rowland” touching his ears, “remember I have super hearing”. “Oh! That is true, I have even forgotten but have you wondered why the powers are still with you guys? I mean I see Aza zoom around, Dinia lifting heavy objects and you hearing words from a mile away” Rowland said.

“Maybe God is really busy so he forgot about us” Elias replied, “don’t you see how wonderful this life is with this powers” he added smiling as he flipped a document that was in front of him. “Or is it a sign that something wrong is coming?” Rowland pointed out

“Rowland! Rowland!! Why do you choose to not let me enjoy this happiness I feel right now? Why do you want to bring in sadness and worries? Be happy with me and let us enjoy the present, shall we?” Elias said and Rowland nodded.
