Chapter 25

CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

“Oh my God!” Rowland shouted as he heard what Elias said. His feet could not support him as he held a seat. “What are we going to do?” he asked trembling, “I have no idea to be honest. I’ve tried thinking of one but to no avail” Elias replied. 

Rowland was back in the office of Elias after the day’s work was over. “You insisted I tell you and now you know. I hate to make you unhappy and scared but you insisted” Elias said as he stood up and went to the window.

Exhaling, as he looked through the window, he said, “I miss this view. What a beautiful view from up here. I wish I could see it more often”. “There’s a way” Rowland said. This statement made Elias turn sharply and walk towards him. “Tell me, what’s it?” he asked being anxious. “Let’s pray to God”

Laughter was heard .as Elias laughed so hard. “are you kidding me?” he said after so much laughter. “I am not joking Elias. I know it is difficult and new to you but this is the only way” Rowland said. “Humans pray when they get to trouble and you are human now, so it is not a crime to pray and ask for help”

“I can’t do that Rowland” Elias replied, “maybe you do it but I can’t”, “why can’t you?” Rowland asked, “because God won’t listen. After all we did as demons and remember we are being punished so praying to him would be like pouring cold water on stone.” Elias explained painfully.

“I understand you but there is no harm in a trial Elias. At this moment you need help urgently.” Rowland said standing up and tapping Elias’ shoulders. “Okay, you know what?” he said, “tell me” Elias replied. “I’ll do the prayer, you just say an Amen when I am done” Rowland said and Elias nodded his head.

That evening, Elias told his friends at home as they sat in the living room what Rowland made him do. “How did it feel?” Aza asked. “It would feel weird off course” Dinia answered on behalf of Elias who smiled in agreement. “What did you two pray for?” Aza asked.

“My dear friend, it felt strange to ask for protection and safety” Elias replied getting up. “Now that is weird” Aza confirmed, “you should give it a try” Elias advised, “who knows, it may work” he concluded

Aza and Dinia looked at themselves sadly, “he may be right you know?” Dinia first spoke after silence ensured between them. “But we do not know how to pray” Aza reminded her, “we have never done this before”. “But Elias did and he didn’t die” Dinia said as she knelt down to pray, “if you do not do it, it’s left to you but I will try” she said, “desperate times calls for desperate measures”.

Meanwhile in hell, there was a feast, all the demons was happy of the news that was told to them by the devil. “we will be triumphant at last!” the devil exclaimed and shouts of excitement spread across hell.

“Eat and drink” Lucifer said, “we will strike soon and nothing will stop us”. Reckon who was holding a glass of wine stood up to make a toast, “here is to our lord Lucifer who will get his revenge”. He lifted his glass cup and everyone did same

That night, Rowland could not sleep as he rolled from one corner of his bed to another in deep thoughts. He was raged on the way Lucifer broke his part of the agreement. “Well, what can I say, he is the devil” he thought as a year slipped out of his left eye.

In that moment, he felt a cool breeze sweep across his face. His hair stood and his body shivered. He stood up as he met Raphael sitting on a seat across his bed. “Hello there Rowland” he said with a charming smile. Rowland smiled on seeing him, he felt peace and was happy his prayers were answered.

“You know why I am here right?” Raphael asked, “Off course I do” Rowland replied, “thank you for coming” he said in gratitude. “I’m just a messenger but you’re welcome” the angel replied smiling.

“Tomorrow, gather the rest of the group, I have a message for them” Raphael said, “I will surely tell them, they would be so happy especially Elias. He won’t believe God is still interested in them” Rowland said, “I can finally sleep peacefully” he thought to himself. “I have to go now, I’ll be back” the angel assured disappearing.

ELIAS POV

Elias who could not sleep but was sitting in the living room in deep thoughts, “I just wish my prayer can be answered. I do have little faith but I wish Rowland’s faith could do the work for me”. “if this doesn’t work, what should I do?” “well I cannot say till it works and if it doesn’t, then I’m dead”.

AZA’S POV

“I can’t believe I could pray in my entire life. Will this work? Will God answer any of our prayers?” “I’m so anxious”. “What can we do if it doesn’t work? Well Elias will figure out something, I trust him”.

DINIA’S POV

Dinia who was in the kitchen, was in tears as she remembered all she did while she was in hell. “Will I ever be forgiven?” “did I just waste words in prayers?”. “whatever the outcome is, I will accept”.

Lucifer who was on his throne in deep thoughts on what he should plan, “what is the right punishment should be given to him?” “should I torment them first?” “Even if I was to start tormenting them, who should I begin with?” he asked these rhetorical questions wishing he had the answers.

“My lord” Reckon called out, “we have a problem on our hands concerning Elias and his friends” he added. “what could it be?” Lucifer asked worried, “Raphael was spotted on earth. I think they have help now”.

This made the devil bang bus armrest so hard that the sound echoed and every activity in hell stopped. “What!” he shouted in anger.
