Chapter 1: A Journey I Never Expected
My world of gray, devoid of pleasure, with low class values: boring and simple. I decided to change, not clinging to hope but to despair. I secluded my self in a pitch black gloomy room, a magic circle on its floor, surrounded by 6 lighted wax candle equally laid out on the rim of the circle, dimly illuminating the room, me, a hanging rope and the sharpened knife in my left hand. Strange as it was, I realized I had no desire for anything, money? I do have much for living but nonetheless I don’t give s**t of what it brings, woman, you say,? I’ll pass… I prefer my company or so I say but insecurity is my best of friend coming on top of anxiety, passion? I do have one… being reduced to nothing. Well back to it, I clutched the knife and recite the passage I read on a 3 dollar dusty book,
“I Calix Reyes offer my body and soul to you grant me your blessing of gift and pleasure”
I held the knife, s***h my wrist, and watch my crimson blood flow endlessly. I do found myself weird, they’d say things like ‘you’d realize the value of life when you’re dying’, something like that but I felt indifferent. And just as I expected, nothing happened. I clung to the hope that perhaps a devil might appear but if not, I’d just kill myself. Well unto the rope, I made my way to the hanging rope in the middle of the room, took a step on the stool.
Ice Cold!! It was chilly, I started to feel my hair standing- goosebumps, my heart was beating loud enough to pop off my chest, and in the next moment alarm rang through my entire nervous system. A candle went off…then another one and so on the rest.
“Now, what is it that you desire?” called a woman’s voice, soft and dignified.
It’s the devil the incarnation of fear the epitome of evil. I desperately calmed my self. In the longest time I actually felt fear, pleasure ran through my body, damn it was electrifying, this is what I’ve always been looking for the feeling of being alive, I’ve been stuck with the everyday unending non special routine but the brief elevated feeling vanished in the next moment, I again feel indifferent.
“Nothing…” I replied, held the rope to my head then jumped.
-
I’m done with this s**t, everyday, every single day… running like a f*****g horse in a race, I’ve been running for the longest time now, falling behind those people, my classmate, my friends, I can’t keep up at all, they were striving for something, reaching a height of greatness, working on their goals and here I am barely living, perhaps tomorrow I’d be graced with a desire.
Thought Calix, a crease on his eyebrow accompanied with his sharp narrow eyes emanated a barrier or a sign [don’t approach, grumpy], safe to say he was angry but its just his usual look. His hair dyed crimson with the red light beaming above him, [24 hrs open motel] plastered on the multiple establishment he passed, below one such establishment, he was called out,
“Hey there handsome” called a woman, she had a seductive voice obviously mastered at calling out tons of men, she wore a revealing dress, thick make up her red lipstick hinted her profession, not that beautiful but her sexiness made up for it, she slowly walked towards Calix.
Facing the woman, Calix held out one arm, his palm facing him, one by one his fingers slowly closed leaving the middle finger out open,
“b***h” he whispered, but enough for the woman to hear, instantly the woman held out her middle finger, her face crumpled in anger and scoffed,
“Hmph Virgin boy”
Calix ignored the woman’s remark and continued to make his way out the red light district but several meters away, he was called out yet again, however something was different this time it was a male’s voice haggard and hoarse as it seems, it still sounded solemn and dignified.
“What?” Calix sighed,
“Now now, would you perhaps be interested in this book” he replied,
Weirdly enough this man appeared to have a really long forehead, but just for appearance sake as he’s entire face was covered with a hood and was facing sideways, not to mention that he is covered with the darkness of the alleyway, like an assassin megamind.
“No” Calix instantly replied,
“Please I need the money, three dollars I really need it” begged the man, prostrating on the ground.
Whoa desperate much, we’ll it wouldn’t be too bad to help one in need
“Okay, get up, here’s the three dollars” urged Calix, he got on his knees and tried to get the man back up but the man took the money still prostrating the ground, he pushed the book to Calix, titled “ A devil’s ritual”
-cough
Still chocking on the rope he hanged an hour ago, Calix cursed the guy who sold him the book, its been a good five minute of chocking, his neck already broke at the jump but he…is…not…dead. He could only blame the guy earlier and this devil in front of him. She was laughing, at the darkest part of the room, her crimson eyes glowed, she slowly walked out to the middle of the room and lit one of the candle, contrary to her voice she had the appearance of a sixteen year old girl, she didn’t look like the devils persecuted in the bible, she didn’t have horns nor tails instead she appeared to be a normal teenager except for her red dyed hair and her black tattered modern medieval armor.
What the f**k is this, I’m not dying?
Like a psychic reading his thoughts the demon replied,
“Well of course you’re in my domain now, in any case you’re an interesting one, I’ve never heard of mortals killing themselves after summoning a demon, well too bad for me it’s my first summon after all and its wasted like this”
The demon cut the rope loose with the knife, and with one hand lifted Calix above her, snapping his neck back in place, simultaneously she miraculously healed Calix’s wrist with a magic circle she had drawn using the blood flowing from it.
Calix eyes were wide open in shock, unbelievable things were unfolding at his very eyes right now, a demon prevented him from dying?, A demon healed his neck and wrist with magic circle? These were things only possible in novels in yet here he was,
“What happens to me now?” he asked, his voice was soft and the fear he felt earlier were nowhere to be found,
“Well I don’t have a clue” said the woman, looking around Calix’s room.
“Huh?”
“hmmm…but Well since you said you didn’t want anything and you’re bored to “hell”, come with me Calix Reyes, I Esteroth De Val welcome you as my subordinate” proudly announced the demon oozing an aura akin to that of a proud King.
