CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE: THE ORIGIN OF SWITCHERS

Cassy left Jarek inside the room and entered the main sitting room. She met Dylan and Karen sitting on the long sofa, discussing Jarek's situation, and decided to join them. She was silent all through and made sure she got as much information as possible on Jarek's matter. "His mother is a switcher and his father is a Lycan. Interesting." Dylan said. "I didn't tell you this just to reminisce about it." Karen shot at Dylan. "I'm trying to place the puzzles and walk the maze." "Please do Dylan." The pause. "Why don't we just google it, maybe we'd find something interesting because my sense of reasoning right now is faraway from composure. Lycans don't give birth to Lycans, switchers are 100% human and 100% werewolves and it is always transferred to their kids - Jarek is a switcher's kid, so--" Dylan paused for no reason. "Damn! This is absurd!" He shouted. Karen and Cassy stared at Dylan, they wished they could hear his thoughts and see how confused he was. Karen straightened her back, resting on the sofa chair and still yet, making sure she was facing Dylan who was beside him. "What's your take?" Karen asked. "Google should solve this mystery. Google is everyone's regular b**ch." "My child is here, Dylan." Karen shot at him. "Sorry." "Why don't we check it out? Cassy please help me with my laptop in my room." "Okay Mom." "Why don't we use our phones? It would save us the strength of trying to connect to the WiFi." "We are doing this together, you can go home afterwards after this." Dylan immediately agreed to what Karen had said. Not too long, and a little bit short, Cassy came out with her mom's white MacBook, it was looking brand new, but Karen always tells Cassy that the MacBook is older than Cassy. Cassy would always flinch when Karen tells her, and now she was expecting it. "This looks brand new, when did you get it?" Dylan asked in amazement. "This laptop is older--" "Older than my daughter." Cassy helped her complete her statement as she rolled her eyes, staring at the television. Karen smiled. "Amazing." Dylan whispered. "Let's get on with it." He said. Karen opened her MacBook, as  Dylan had guessed, it took more than a few minutes to connect to the internet. After 5 minutes the breakthrough came, and they were connected to the internet. A sigh of relief found them both, and Cassy made sure she went unnoticed behind them to check for herself what was going on. Karen typed into the screen, "Origin of the Lycans." "Who doesn't know the origin of the Lycans?" Dylan asked, making Karen delete the keywords, and input, "Origin of The Switchers." The webpage came up in seconds, and they clicked the first website on the page. They saw a picture of a lady and a wolf, then the story about The switchers followed. The headline reads, "Are switchers humans or werewolves?" "This looks interesting." Dylan said. Karen turned on the auto-read mode. The auto-read mode enables the user to listen to words written online or offline. The MacBook reads aloud the contents on the website. "This would be literally short, but helpful. The story of the switchers will forever be a myth. Something man or any supernatural being can phantom. The switchers started existing around 270 AD, and the name of the first switcher was Donald Petterson. The father of Petterson, Richard Petterson was a human, and the mother, Lara Petterson, a werewolf. After Lara's mate rejected her because she was hot, stubborn, and does as she wants - then she got rejected. She met Richard at a pool party in Carcun city. That night they slept with each other. That night was intense for both of them, but Lara was way more intense than Richard. Months passed, and they gave birth to Donald. Donald grew up to be a handsome and strong young boy. He fights with other werewolf kids, and always beats them. Lara had first thoughts about her child - is he human or werewolf? The Alpha of the pack, her supposed-to-be mate, called out to her one very day after Donald had beaten up three werewolf kids including his son. He complained to Lara to keep his child away from other kids, because they thought he was human, and the kids were just making sure he doesn't get hurt in a fight. On this fateful day, it was sunny, and everywhere was very calm. Some of the stubborn kids in the clan knew about Donald's mother that the Alpha rejected her - Donald couldn't stand it, and fought with them. The kids also couldn't stand how they always get beaten by a mere human being, suddenly, they all shifted into their wolf form. Shortly afterwards, Donald shifted too. The kids were amazed, they never got his scent or turned before. When the Alpha heard about this he called for Donald, but Lara showed up instead. She thought they were going to kill Donald, but no, they wanted to find out why no supernatural being can pick up his scent - to everyone, Donald is human. Research upon research, blood test upon blood test, but all to no avail - They couldn't make someone like Donald. The Alpha was a bit angry about this, but there was nothing he could do. Years later, Donald had children, and those children had children and everyone of them were switchers. The Alpha couldn't hold on to the distancing fate as Switchers increased rapidly - He told all Switchers and humans to leave Cancurn City. Now, switchers are all over the continent, they are very peaceful and does not look for anyone's problem." Four minutes looked like two hours to them. They were fixed on the screen and didn't even notice Cassy who was behind them. "Wow." Dylan exclaimed. "Switchers are hereditary. That means Jarek is a switcher." Karen said. "Yeah absolutely." Cassy replied. Karen and Dylan looked back to see Cassy. "When did you get here?" Karen asked. "Since when you were deliberating on searching about Switchers." Cassy responded, staring closely at her Mom. Cassy went back to her seat and watched Dylan as he stared at the MacBook in front of him. "What next?" Karen asked. "I think we should tell him." Karen answered her own question. "Tell him what?" "About his family's background." "He is too young to take in all those. He suffered a terrible fate when he came in contact with--with-with errhmm." "Boaz." "Yes, Boaz." "So?" "I will erase his memory and give him a new family far away from here." "That's cruel." Cassy heard what her mother had just insinuated, she can't imagine Jarek being a stranger to her. She hated that idea, and did not agree to it. She did not have a say in this discussion, so she kept quiet and hoped life would favour her. "What is his parents occupation?" Dylan asked. "His father works for Askarvard Magazines and his mother owns the famous pizza joint." Karen responded. "But why would you do that?" Dylan asked Karen. "Do what?" "Erase his memory." "His mother is dead, killed by an Alpha - His father is a Lycan, more of a beast. And capping it all, he witnessed everything without missing an episode." Karen explained to Dylan and it made a lot of sense to him. "If he finds out about the alpha killing his Mom, I'm sure every alpha that would ever be appointed would be killed by him in the long run." Dylan added, completing the wise decision Karen suggested. Cassy watched both of them. Her face fumed with uncertainties and anger. "I want Jarek to always remember me." She said to herself. "I can hear you Cassy." Karen said. "Wait what?" "I can hear your thoughts, you are talking out loud in your mind." Karen responded. "You are really something Mom." Cassy said, leaving their presence. Dylan watched Cassy as she left. When she was out of sight, Dylan stared at Cassy. "You can hear people's thoughts too?" "Yes, I can, if you think out loud in your mind." "Me thinking out loud in my mind also means I am thinking, but not loud out so that everyone could hear." "When your thoughts are mixed with emotions, I will be able to hear them." "Should we try it?" "Okay." "Then I will think about something now mixed with positive emotions. Let's see if you can hear me." Dylan said, closing his eyes. He thought about Boaz, and what he will do to him whenever they meet. "I'm sure to kill Boaz if ever shows up. I will rip his heart off before he could beg." He opened his eyes. "What was I thinking about?" "You said you wanted to think about something positive, why is killing and ripping involved? Is violence your stronghold?" Karen asked, indirectly telling him what he was thinking about. "How did you do that?" "Switchers power you won't find on the internet." She smiled, standing up. "Care for pizza?" She asked, staring at Dylan who was dumbfounded, but she took his silence as a yes. She picked up her phone and wanted to order pizza. "You are not a switcher. Or are you a switcher?" Dylan finally said. Karen fixed her eyes on the screen. "You won't understand if I tell you." "Just tell me." Dylan became very curious. "This is unlike me, but I really want you to answer that." Karen removed her eyes from her phone and stared at Dylan. "My father is a switcher." "That means you are a witch and a werewolf?" Dylan asked again. "No." "What?" "My mother's immune system was stronger, so I didn't take the part of my father's werewolf being." "So, how come you can read people's minds?" "Life is full of twists, Dylan. There is more than you can see right now. There is a whole lot more you will never see, even when you clock 500." She focussed on ordering pizza then she heard a voice behind her - it was Jarek. "My Mum is dead, why are you trying to order pizza from us?" Jarek asked, slightly punching his arm. Karen stared at Jarek not knowing what to say. "Did you remember anything?" Karen said. "You did not even remember me." Cassy had left her room when she heard Jarek's voice. "Calm down everyone, you told him," he pointed at Dylan, "You told him that my father works for Askarvard Magazines and my mother owns a pizza store." Everyone watched him closely. They were speechless, and Karen wished she had something to say to the broken, smiling boy. Words failed her, failed Dylan, and ultimately failed Cassy, but their eyes were on Jarek. "I really need to erase his memory. He will either commit suicide or become a psychopath whose mission is to kill and destroy every werewolf in Askarvard." Karen said to herself. Sasha had not seen her father for a day and three hours. Her mother constantly made sure she reminded Sasha that her father had been busy with work. Sasha was laying on her bed idly - she is always bored on a Saturday and for some reasons she missed Angelo. She picked up her phone and wanted to call him, but another call entered, it was Zed. "The devil incarnate." She cursed, picking up the phone call. "Yes?" Sasha said. "A normal hello would do." Zed told her. "Hello." "Better." "Why did you call?" "Your Mom told one of my friends that they should keep an eye on Angelo." "What?" "Yeah, I think she doesn't believe you nor me." "Thank you for this, Zed." "Don't thank me yet, what are you going to do about it?" "For now, I don't know." "Text me when you need my help." Zed said, and hung up. Few seconds later, Sasha's Mom entered Sasha's room. Sasha wanted to hate her mother, but she knows she can't, so she didn't bother on that path. "Hi Mom." "You haven't taken your breakfast. It is almost 11." "Yeah, I will come over soon." "Okay." Lucia responded. "Don't take too long." She said, and went her way.
