“Again, your job is to do and fetch anything and everything he wants. Don’t make excuses or he’ll sack your ass. No matter how frustrated you get, f*****g reel it in and do the job and don’t question it. Lastly, don’t even think of liking the bastard. The last one who did was thrown out naked on the street.” Sonja’s last warning put Evelyn into a complete halt. She knew her eyes were as big as dinner plates because Sonja gave her a bored nod as if confirming that what she said was actually true. “Thrown out naked?” The clanking of her black, six-inch stilettos on the concrete flooring stopped, Sonja folded her arms and looked at the timid girl below her eye-glasses with gold chains hanging on both sides. Somehow her piercing stare and the smirk on her red painted lips made the girl feel self-conscious. “Rule number One. In entertainment industry, what you see, you forget. What you hear, you zip your mouth.” Sonja made a zipping motion on her mouth. “You only have to do your job well, Miss Price.” Nakatikom ang bibig na tumango si Evelyn. Simula sa araw na iyon isa na siyang pipi at bingi.  She pulled back the rising curiosity in her mind and tried to focus her attention on the more important part. Mas importante ang trabaho niya kesa sa anupamang chismiss patungkol sa mga artista. “Ah, matanong ko lang po Miss Sonja. Sino po ba ang boss ko?” tanong niya habang inaayos ang nagusot na damit. Siksikan kasi kanina ang mga tao sa loob ng jeep. halos maghalikan na ang mga pasahero sa sobrang sikip. “You will know when we get there.” She said dismissively and answered her phone that was ringing incessantly. Nagpatuloy sila sa paglalakad. They were in one of the filming sites for a movie. Maraming silang nadaanang crew member na nagkukumahog sa paghahanda ng set na isho-shoot. Lahat sila’y humihinto para bumati kay Miss Sonja kahit sa sobrang busy nila. Pero ni tango ay wala silang nahinita sa babae. They were nearing a luxurious RV when a woman burst out from the door crying. Pinunasan nito ang nangingilid na luha habang kuyom ang isang make-up brush. Napahinto ito nang makita sila at nag-aalangang lumapit. Sonja sighed after dropping the call and faced the crying woman. “What now?” Sonja asked with impatience and detached, cold voice. Napahagulhol na naman ng iyak ang babae. “’Di ko na po kaya Miss Sonja. Maghanap na lang po kayo ng ibang make-up artist. Hindi po ako alipin dito, make-up artist po ako. Palagi na lang pong ganito, sisigawan, iinsultohin at yuyurakan pa ang pagkatao mo. Hindi na po tao ang minimake-upan ko, demonyo na po. Kaya I quit. Mas Mabuti pang magnegosyo na lang ako ang siomai sa bahay, total doon hindi pa ako mamamatay sa sama ng loob.” Sonja stared at the woman in front of her with no emotion. Parang sanay na ito sa ganoong pangyayari. Humablot siya ng calling card mula sa pitaka at iniabot sa babae.“Call Attorney Brady and get your severance pay. That would be more than enough for your siomai business.” Kinuha ng babae and calling card ngunit hindi ito binitawan ni Sonja. “And remember, you’ve signed the NDA.” The woman’s hand trembled. Nakagat nito ang pang-ibabang labi at naglihis ng tingin. Sonja sneered. She knows the woman held a grudge and will think of anything to get even. But she’s been in this industry for a long time and Sonja knows that look on the woman’s face. “Mrs. Beltran, alam mo naman siguro ang mangyayari kung hindi mo ititkom ‘yang bibig mo, hindi ba? If not, I could refresh your mind as to what happened to Miss Castor.” Parang kinilabutan ang babae sa sinabi ni Sonja. Pati si Evelyn na nakamasid lamang ay naapektohan din. Umiling- iling ang babae, “H-Hindi na kailangan, Miss Sonja. Alam ko ang dapat gawin. Sige ho, Salamat po.” Sonja smiled a saccharine smile, “Then good luck on your siomai business, Mrs. Beltran.” Patakbong umalis ang babae. Takot itong manatili pa doon dahil sa sinabi ni Sonja. Nagtapuloy sa paglalakad si Sonja kaya sumunod na rin ang nakatunganga pa ring si Evelyn. “Miss Price.” “Y-yes po?” gulat na tanong ni Evelyn. “Quitters have no room in this place. Narinig mo naman siguro ang sinabi ni Mrs. Beltran kaya ngayon pa lang ay magdesisyon ka na kung kaya mo bang suungin ang mahirap na trabahong ito.” Yes, Evelyn is scared. Natakot siya sa isiniwalat ni Mrs. Beltran but she needed a job. She needs this job like she needed air. Sa tagal niya nang paghahanap ng mapapasukang trabaho ay ilang beses na niyang maisipang kumapit sa patalim. Kaya laking pasalamat niya nang tumawag ang agency na may gustong kumuha sa kanya bilang personal assistant. This job was sent to her by the heavens. Naawa na siguro ang Diyos sa kanya kaya binigyan na siya ng pagkakataon. At hindi iyon sasayangin ni Evelyn. She had gotten this far and she will continue to move forward no matter the obstacles she’ll face.  Nakita ni Sonja ang deteminasyon sa mukha ng dalaga at napatango. “Good.” Binuksan ni Sonja ang pinto ng RV. Bumungad sa kanila ang lalaki at babaeng nakayuko ang ulo at tiklop ang dalawang kamay sa harap. Another man was there. He’s sitting languidly on a black chair with his back on them. “Miss Sonja…” sabay na daing ng dalawa. Sonja waved them off, “Get out.” Nakukumahog na lumabas naman ang dalawa. The three of them were left in total silence. “Alam mo ba ang ginawa mong problema?” Sonja said with no emotion. “I don’t know what you are talking about.” The man drawled and a cloud of white smoke wafted when he blew out. No wonder the RV smelled like cigarette. But it smelled odd, the RV definitely smelled like cigarette but the scent was mixed with some kind of aftershave or men’s cologne that’s making one feel heady from smelling it. Sonja sneered. “Crazy bastard.” “Uptight Bitch.” “That’s the nineteenth make-up artist that quit, Luca.” “Not my problem, Sonj.” Sonja heaved out a sigh. “Fine. I’ll look for another one but this is the last time, Luca. If this happens again, you will be the one to look for your own make-up artist. And also, stop terrorizing the crew. They’re quitting one after another. You’re giving Brady and Silvester a big headache.” “Again, not my problem, Sonj.” The man replied then took a drag off his cigarette. Sonja folded her arms and pierced the sitting man with a frosty glare. “It will be once I had enough of your f****d-up ass and quit as your manager.” The man on the swivel chair did not reply and continued to smoke. “By the way. Kasama ko ang bagong personal assistant mo. This is Evelyn Price. Miss Price this is your employer, Luca King.” Pagpapakilala ni Sonja. The man swiveled his chair and stared at them. His eyes zeroed in on Evelyn and those same eyes narrowed. Eyes like black frost disected her, her body, her face. Pati kaluluwa niya ay parang nakikita nito. Laking gulat ni Evelyn nang bumunghalit ito ng tawa. Luca stared at Sonja, a glint flashed on his eyes. “My, my. Aren’t you being a spiteful shrew, Sonj?” Tinitigan din ni Sonja ang lalaki. “I don’t know what you are talking about.” Naiiling na natawa si Luca. “To what do I owe this great favor, Sonj? Oh, wait. Let me think. Was this about the incident last Saturday? I told you it was pure coincidence.” “I call Bull.” Sonja spat out.  Luca raised both arms in surrender. His mouth held a devilish smile. “It wasn’t deliberate on my part, sweetheart. It’s not like I was the one on the bed banging some random chick, right? It was my cousin. Dapat siya ang pagbuntunan mo ng galit, hindi ako. I just steered you to the right path. And besides, wasn’t it good you caught him with another woman? Now you could finally stop your whimsical delusions. Kaya nga dapat pasalamatan mo pa ako.” Nanlisik ang mga mata ni Sonja. It was the first time Evelyn saw Sonja display such intense emotion.   “Your cousin and I have nothing to do with each other, you f*****g bastard!”  Nakakalokong nginisihan ni Luca ang babae. “And that’s precisely my point, Sonj. Wala namang kayo. No labels, nothing. Pero bakit ganoon na lang panggagalaiti mo?” Sonja sneered. “You really are one of a kind crazy, sad motherf****r. You wouldn’t stop until you bring everyone with you to hell, don’t you Luca?” Luca shrugged nonchalantly. “What can I say, I love company. The more the merrier.” Sonja held her hands up in surrender. “God! I really can’t deal with your crazy ass, Luca. I’m out of here. You’re on your own Miss Price.” She said and was out of the RV in record time. Evelyn was left inside the RV with Luca. A big question mark was on her mind. What just happened? The inside of the RV is so quiet but Evelyn refused to utter a single word. Takot siyang pagbalingan ng galit ng lalaki. Ito pa naman ang unang araw niya sa trabaho. But Evelyn can’t get her eyes off Luca. The moment their eyes met, she felt her world tilt a bit. He lounged on his chair in his crisp black suit. Luca looked like a fallen angel. Beautiful. He even did some foreign movies that hit big worldwide. He’s an S-class actor of the entertainment industry. Every product he promotes sell out in mere seconds after posters and adverts hit the media outlets. She even watched some of his interviews but cannot connect both the man in front of her and the polite and dignified man in those interviews. Her heart went wild. Seeing him on TV and seeing in flesh was so different. So, so different. The man lounging on the chair like a big cat finally stood up and walked towards her. A lazy smile pasted on his lips. Nagulat si Evelyn kaya’t napa-atras siya. When Luca advance Evelyn retreats. Hanggang sa ma-corner ni Luca si Evelyn sa pader ng RV. Napalunok siya. Napakalapit ng mukha ni Luca sa kanya. Gahibla na lamang at magdadaiti na ang kanilang mga labi. Nag-iwas siya ng tingin dahil alam niyang namumula na ang kanyang mga pisngi. “M-may ipag-uutos po ba kayo sir?” nag-isip siya ng paraan kung papano makaka-alis sa sitwasyon na iyon. Pinilit niyang ngumiti pero parang ngiwi ang limabas sa kanyang mga labi. “Tubig sir, baka na-uuhaw na kayo. Ipagkukuha ko--” Bam! A hand slammed on the wall beside her head when Evelyn was shifting her body to the right to get out. Ang kanina pang dumadagundong niyang puso ay parang nagflat-line sa sobrang kaba. She remembered what the make-up artist earlier said and she trembled when she saw the dangerous glint on Luca’s face. She trembled from fear but also from another foreign emotion invading her body. Strong fingers pinched her chin and tilted it up. Napapikit si Evelyn. She bit her lip, afraid to look at the man. His breath wafted on her face, his scent intoxicating her. Goose bumps prickled her skin, and a hot wave crashed inside her chest. Yes, Evelyn was afraid but also aroused. They stayed like that for a while until he whispered. “Devious c*nt.”
