Ch. 1. The Beginning
Today was just like any other for Lottie. She woke up, got dressed for school and woke her brother up. It's how every day started. But today wasn't like the others, Lottie decided to be kind when she woke her brother up, instead of kicking the door open and yelling as she opened the curtains, she decided to knock on the door before entering and gently nudging him awake.
Once she knew he was awake Lottie went downstairs and checked the fridge for any notes her parents left. The sibling's parents had to get up early to go to work each day so they would leave notes for their children, sometimes they were as simple as a few words, sometimes they had of chores they needed to do and sometimes, like today they had words of love and encouragement. The siblings enjoyed reading the notes each morning and the parents enjoyed writing them. On this day Lottie's note read:
"Lottie,
Good luck at school today, I hope you do well and give your all in anything you do. You are smart, kind and courageous.
We love you very much. Keep smiling!
Love Mum and Dad"
She smiled at the note and put it into her pocket. She wanted to have it for encouragement throughout the day. Lottie made herself some breakfast before her brother came downstairs. "Your hair is a mess, you look like you've just been mauled by a bear!" Lottie said in response to his disheveled appearance "How can you make the school uniform look like that?" She got up and tried to fix his uniform.
"Lottie, if I wanted your opinion I would have asked. Also, I don't say this enough, but your appearance isn't crash hot either"
Lottie drops her hands and the two siblings glare at each other until they both break into a fit of laughter. "Hurry up and eat you breakfast Clarence" Lottie returns to her breakfast and scrolls through her phone, Clarence grabs some bread and just eats it out of the plain.
"Why do you have to eat just plain bread? we do have stuff to put on it you know" she huffs at him, Clarence just gives her a bread filled grin and continues eating.
Lottie noticed the time and grabbed her things before rushing next door. Her next-door neighbor was her best friend, Bee. They had known each other since they were 5 when Bee and her family moved in next door. They had wildly different personalities but that didn't stop them from being friends.
She walked inside and shouted up the stairs to Bee, "Are you ready yet? because we have school in ten minutes and we will be late again!"
After a few minutes, a disheveled girl ran down the stairs huffing and puffing "Would you believe me if I said I woke up hours ago and have been ready for ages?" Bee questioned.
"No, not in the slightest. Now grab something to eat and let's go" Lottie answered. Bee ran off and came back with a packet of chips and a chocolate bar. "Bee! that's not breakfast!"
Bee shrugged and shouted up the stairs "Bye Mum, Bye Dad see you after school!" She then started to walk towards the door waiting for Lottie to follow.
Lottie shakes her head and follows after Bee, Thinking that today would just be any regular day.
