The Birthday Surprise

            Allison's pov:

            It has been two weeks since Nicholai won his fight with his brother. A lot has happened over those two weeks. Nicholai and I have gotten closer, my nightmares have finally stopped and the atmosphere in the castle has gotten a lot more peaceful, since the threat is over. Also, Rachel is now a freed slave as well as my mother now. They live here in the castle and no longer have to obey a master, life is peaceful.

            I was currently in my room getting ready for dinner. Nicholai told me to wear something nice for my Birthday dinner. Yes, it's my Birthday today. I am seventeen years old. I was looking in my closet for something nice to wear and I found it. Towards the back of the closet was a beautiful long dark green gown. It was open in the back and was a little low cut in the front. It was perfect. I paired it with a pair of black strappy high heals. As I put it on, I couldn't help but twirl a little, I felt like a Princess in it. I left my hair down and curled it at the bottom with a small clip to the right side to pull a little back. I was ready for my Birthday dinner.

               As I made my way down to the dining room, I couldn't help but think about Nicholai mating me. I had told him that we would mate after my Birthday. I was excited, nervous and completely overwhelmed by it all. What was it going to be like? Would I turn into a full vampire afterwards? Why did I gain Nicholai's powers after he gave me his blood? Was that my power and why did I have one while I was still half-human? I was taken away from my thoughts as I saw the dining room approaching.

                "Surprise!" Everyone yelled at me when I entered the room. I was speechless. A surprise party! As I didn't know many people, the only ones there were Nicholai, my mom, Rachel and a couple of the slaves that I had gotten to know during my stay here. I couldn't help the smile that made it's way onto my face. "Oh my God! Thank you!" I said as everyone came over to me to wish me a Happy Birthday. I felt so loved by everybody. Nicholai made his way over to me and wrapped his arms around my waist, pressing a soft kiss on my lips. "Happy Birthday, my love." He whispered in my ear, sending tingles to run all over my body. "Did you do this?" He nodded yes and I thanked him and gave him a kiss on the cheek.

                My mother came over to me and gave me a hug. "Happy Birthday, baby. I have a surprise for you." I looked at her and was about to question her about the surprise when the kitchen doors opened. There was a huge cake, it was four layers, it had white and pink frosting on it and cut strawberries laying on top. It was beautiful, the most perfect cake I had ever seen. "Thank you all, this is the best Birthday I have ever had." Everyone told me that I deserved it and Rachel came over to me. "Go ahead. Blow out the candles and make a wish." I nodded at her with a smile as I made my way over to the cake. As I thought about what to wish for, nothing came to mind. I already had everything I could ever want or need. I had a future mate, my mom was with me again, I had a best friend and some new friends. Plus the threat of his brother and sister was over. Everything was perfect. I closed my eyes and the only thing that I could wish for was that Nicholai's and my mating would go smoothly. So, with that I blew out the candles and as I reopened my eyes I found Nicholai already staring into mine with a fond smile on his face.

            We cut into the cake and all the humans got a piece. It was delicious and my mouth was in heaven. While eating the cake, we all made small conversations with each other and I was enjoying being around my favorite people. I didn't want the night to end. I was brought out of my conversation with my new friend Sally, who was a slave in the castle, by Nicholai telling me it was time to open my gifts. My whole face lit up and I was vibrating with excitement at the thought of presents. I never really had a Birthday before and this was all so exciting for me. My mom went first, she had gifted me a framed picture of us that we took after she came here to live. I loved the picture and I started crying while I hugged her. Rachel got me a nice fleece robe that was very comfortable. I loved it. Nicholai had gifted me a beautiful necklace. It had a gold chain and the pendant was very old and was gold with diamonds surrounding a ruby stone in the middle. I was in awe of it. "I have had this necklace in my possession for a very long time. I have always wanted to give it to my mate whenever I met her and I thought now would be a good time for you to have it." "Thank you, it's beautiful." I said with tears in my eyes as I hugged him and we shared a small kiss, that I hoped conveyed all my love to him.

            After the party was over, I went upstairs to change my clothes for bed. I thought about the party and how much fun it was. They really surprised me and it was the best Birthday I have ever had. As I was getting my pajamas on, there was a knock on the door. "Give me a second." I said as I finished pulling my night shirt over my head. I went to the door and was not surprised to see it was Nicholai standing there. "Hello again." I said with a smile on my face. He chuckled and kissed my cheek as he made his way into my room. "I came here to talk to you for a minute." He seemed serious and he seemed to have a lot on his mind. "Okay, what is it? You look tense." He patted the bed beside him as an invitation to sit down. I sat down next to him and he grabbed my hand. "I have to leave for a few days." He said to me. "Why? when?" I asked him. "I have to leave tonight. There are some rogues in another town that are sneaking into homes and draining slaves. I must go there and destroy them before anymore slaves die." He said to me looking me straight in the eye. I could see that he was conflicted about going. He didn't want to leave me. "How long will you be away?" "No more than a three or four days. You know I can't stay away from you for more than that." "Okay. I understand how important this is. You have to go, but please be careful and don't be gone for too long." I said to him, getting worried, not only for Nicholai, but for the slaves as well. He kissed the top of my head as he brought me in for a hug. He held me so tightly like he didn't want to ever leave me. "I promise, I will be back. Four days at the most. I love you." "I love you too." "We will talk about mating upon my return. I will come back to you, we have a long future ahead of us, you and I." He said to me as he was still keeping me in his arms. I had a feeling that there was much more to the story that he wasn't telling me. But I let it go as he kissed me on the lips, with so much passion and love my knees went weak. "You promise to be safe and come back to me?" I asked again. 

            "Of course, my love. I promise."
