“Excuse you?” I cut in.  The soldier wasn’t as scared as some of the others. Either that or he was just much better at hiding it. His hair was brown but the grease made it almost look black. His skin was similarly oily, but he did have piercing green eyes that somewhat saved his appearance. He was even smaller than me, possibly smaller than my previously underfed sister too, but he stood in front of me as though he is the queen and I am the soldier who is in the wrong. “Pardon, your grace, I did not see you.” He gave me a polite bow, but did not step away from Zoey.
