Lincoln stretched out his arm and let out a long sigh as he woke up from what was a steamy night.
He glanced toward the bed and Electra was still in a deep sleep. He recalled how she was all over him like flies to honey last night. She didn't seem to have had enough of Lincoln and even when he thought he had finished on her, she kept cuddling and angling her butt toward him in a signal for more.
What a f*****g joke of a woman, he reasoned. Who would have thought that she could have some rest considering how active she had been the night before?
Lincoln was still feeling groggy from the sleep. He took a glance at the wall clock.
“s**t! I am already late,” he muttered to himself before dragging himself to the bathroom to brush his teeth and have a shower.
He had soon dressed up, looking sharp and professional for work. He grabbed his briefcase and headed toward the entrance before a knock from behind the door made him flinch.
Lincoln peeped through the doorhole before opening the door.
“Good morning, Mr. Moore.”
“Good morning. How may I help you?” Lincoln asked the man who was dressed in jeans and a T-shirt.
“Well, I am a process server, Mr. Moore. I came to deliver these documents to you from Katherine Cenat.”
The fact that the process server called her Katherine Cenat instead of Katherine Moore sent a strange feeling running through his spine. He felt lightheaded, trying to aid himself with some composure as he received the envelope from the process server before bringing out the document inside of it.
It was the same as the divorce agreement that he forced Katherine to sign a few days ago but this time it had her signature boldly appended to it.
“Ms. Cenat says I should tell you goodbye,” the process server uttered and went on his way to the utter confusion of Lincoln.
Lincoln found it difficult to understand why he felt unsteady. Perhaps it was because he was unwilling to admit it.
This was what he wanted though, Lincoln reasoned. He wanted Katherine to sign the divorce papers as soon as possible and he even wished that he had divorced her sooner and married Electra.
But now that she had signed it, why was she feeling? He expected her to put up one last fight at least. Would Katherine really just give up on her marriage like that? He thought that there was no way Katherine wouldn't come back to him but the fact that she didn't even come herself to deliver the divorce agreement meant a lot.
Lincoln was clenching his fists and biting his lips anxiously. He remembered how Katherine knelt and bowed her head just to beg him to change his decision on the divorce. He had to get to the root of the matter, he thought.
Could she have found a new lover already? Was she still in the city or had she travelled to start a new life somewhere far away? His senses were on high alert as the questions kept coming into his head in a flurry. One thing was looking certain every second - that aura she always carried was disappearing into thin air.
Lincoln glanced toward the path ahead as he wanted to call back the process server to ask him a few more questions about Katherine but he had already disappeared.
Lincoln got to his workplace amidst greetings from his subordinates but he barely responded to them. His mind was on Katherine and he couldn't focus.
Lincoln’s secretary, who was his fiance, Electra opened the door slightly, taking delicate steps toward him, a seductive smile on her face.
She batted her eyelashes as she spoke. “Babe, you have got the hottest lady in the whole world and you didn't even kiss her goodbye before going to work.”
Lincoln’s gaze was distant as he barely heard what Electra was saying but he gave a bleak smile in response.
“Anyways, I forgive you but only because last night’s s*x was…hmm,” she uttered, completing her statement with a sensual gesture.
Electra glanced toward the office door to make sure that no one was sniffing around.
Her lips vibrated as she leaned toward Lincoln, her arm snaked around his neck as she planted a kiss on his soft edible lips. “What’s stopping us from having a little go right here, uh?”
Lincoln’s breathing was shallow and his mind was elsewhere. There was a bitter feeling in his mouth as he thought about Katherine.
It was surprising to him because he didn't know that her absence was going to leave such a hole in his heart. Everything seemed blurry to him including the gorgeous lady who was having all of her features groping him.
“Look, I am tired and I need to have some air,” Lincoln uttered, his face squeezed as he turned his body away from Electra who was already in the mood.
Electra’s brow furrowed as she bit her lips in disappointment. How could he reject a delicately poised meal like her? She took a deep breath trying to understand the situation.
Was he losing his feelings for her so quickly already? Maybe she should have kept her body from him a little more. Was it about her naive step-sister, Katherine? Electra was having a difficult time figuring out what was going on.
“Why don't you tell me what is wrong? That was so rude you know,” Electra queried, her bright face melted, turning into a frown.
“Like I said, I need to have some air,” Lincoln responded storming out of his office, his eyes blazing.
He got outside the office building wondering what was wrong with him. The silence he was getting from Katherine was gruesome. It had been three days since he tendered divorce papers to her but it felt like three months.
He finally picked up his phone to do what his subconscious had been telling him to do. He had to swallow his pride and dial her number.
He snapped his fingers anxiously as the phone rang and rang.
Seconds went by until he heard a robotic voice at the end of the line telling him that the call had entered into voicemail.
Goddammit! He wanted to hear her voice.
“Damn!” he growled, slamming his phone to the ground in anger.
