Chapter 1
CHAPTER 1
"Nora, it's movie night." Her friend said to her over the phone as she pulled into the parking lot. "You missed last week's and you're definitely not missing this one."
Nora laughed at her insisted nudging and finally gave in.
"Fine... I'll come by once I'm done with my errands, okay?" She said.
"Where are you right now?" Her friend, Stacey, asked.
"I'm at 4th park Avenue." She said. "I need to get some groceries and cook a proper meal for once. I'm tired of all eating takeouts."
"What's so bad about takeouts?"
"Everything." Nora said.
"Hey, I live off of that."
"And that's good for you sis. But it's definitely not for me." She said, and they both shared a laugh.
"Alright Stacey. I better go now." Nora said. "I'll see you by 8."
"Bye!"
Nora smiled as she finally ended the call and got out of her car.
Not being able to park in front of the store she was heading to, she decided to park right behind the building.
She was just making her way through the alley linking the buildings when she noticed a hooded man walking up behind her.
"Oh, hi." She said, as she looked back at him.
But the man didn't say a way. He just walked past her, glancing at her like she was taking up his space without his permission.
"That was weird." She whispered and continued walking forward.
Arriving at the store, she made her usual trips, picking up some vegetables, some spaghetti, and all she would need to keep her kitchen stocked for the next few weeks.
"I think that's about it." She said, feeling satisfied with her selection.
And then she decided to add a bottle of wine she and Stacey would enjoy through their movie night.
"Stacey's gonna love this." She whispered as she picked up a bottle.
She was just leaving the wine section and making her way to the counter to pay when she noticed the man from the alley following strangely behind her.
"Is he following me?" She asked herself as she glanced back at the man, who seems to stop every time she turns to look at him.
Completely dismissing him, she made her way to the counter and started bringing out the goods.
"Hi." She greeted the attendant.
"Hi!" The lady responded.
She stood and waited for the lady to scan all the products when a breaking news suddenly popped up about a rape incident that just took place 2 days ago. And the wanted picture of the possible suspect, who is on the run.
"It's scary out there these days." The attendant commented, as she watched the TV with Nora.
"Yeah," She said, "Why would anyone even do that?"
"They're psychopaths." The attendant said and laughed a little. "Who cares about the why. They need to be locked up and not be allowed to see the sunlight for the rest of their lives."
Even Nora couldn't help but laugh at her carefreeness and the way she unapologetically passed judgement on the wanted man.
"That'll be... $3,750 and 99 cents." The lady said, and Nora handed over her card.
"Thank you for shopping with us. Stay safe out there."
"Bye!" Nora waved and then walked out, reeling her cart.
Nora had just stepped out of the store and was heading out when she noticed the man from before, following her again.
"Why is he following me?" She said to herself as she picked up the pace.
She stopped after taking a few steps forward and quickly turned around to see that the figure had vanished.
Then she began to panic.
She had just seen a report about a rapist and a murderer on the news and she sure as hell wasn't going to be a victim.
So she did what her instinct told her to do:
Get to the car, bring out your wrench from the trunk and stand your ground.
And she did exactly just that.
She was just standing there, bent over her trunk when the figure stepped closer and the moment he reached forward to touch her, she swung the wrench out of sheer panic and hit the man on the head.
"What??!" She reacted as she saw this wasn't the figure that had been stalking her.
"Oh, no, no, no..." She reacted, as she quickly dropped the wrench and tried to wake the man up.
She just wanted to defend herself and probably use the tool to ward off the stalker not hit him straight in the head.
"Sir, Sir!" She tried to wake the man up but he laid there still as blood began to pool from his head.
"Help!!!" She called, as she began to panic for killing someone.
She had just called out for help the second time when a group of men came running to her.
"Please help!" She screamed again.
"Boss?! Boss!!!" The men shouted as they ran towards her.
"What did you do?!" One of the men asked, as he forcefully lifted Nora up and pulled her away from the body.
"I— I didn't mean to." She said. "He just came out of nowhere."
"He's not breathing." One of the men said, as he checked him.
"Please, I'm sorry!" Nora said.
"Shut up!" The man holding her barked. "You're coming with us."
She watched as the men lifted the man's lifeless body from the ground and carried him off into an SUV that quickly pulled up.
And they also dragged her along and brought her into the car with them.
"Please. I didn't mean to." She pleaded but the men weren't having it.
She didn't even remember that her car was left out there in the parking lot nor the fact that the groceries were there. All she could think about was the man she had killed.
These men looked dangerous.
"Oh God, what have I gotten myself into?" She said in her heart as turned to look at the men and saw the gun in their holsters.
"Please...where are you taking me?" she asked as the car kept on moving.
