Created for Destruction
It was the start of summer as Skylar open her eyes slowly regaining consciousness for the first time in a long time. Like the others she went through a transformation, having her body and powers changed to better their side of the playing field during this horrible war. She firstly felt disorientated until she heard whispering in another room, they seemed to be two voices maybe three. She decided to slowly began stand up but stumbled back onto the bed with the two figures walking in and rushed to help her sit back in the bed.
The smaller figure calmly spoke with a familiar voice that was soft and warm, “Hey sweetie there you are we’ve been so worried about you. Are you thirsty? It’s been while.” It was the voice of her mother.
Finally, Skylar got up and felt something sticking to her arm with a tube and some tape, it was a needle attached to one of those monitors with a ton of monitors behind her, strange she thought but before she could think anything else she felt that burn, horrible burn in her throat like bee stings. She grabbed her throat and almost collapsed again but her mother and her father helped her stand again.
Her father said, “Alright kiddo let’s take you hunting, now your strength with your thirst will be so much stronger since your transformation so we need you to have complete control. Do you understand?”
She nodded as if she was listening to him but all she could think about was how desperately she needed to drink. She felt her throat burning more intensely with each minute passing. She felt like she going to die.
They guided her out of the house to the backyard where their animals were that they used to hunt when they needed. They rarely hunted humans due to the close-knit relationship they had with those helping them with the ongoing war between the vampires and the werewolves. The other mythical creatures helped each side as often as they could, but most didn’t like to get involved.
Skylar finally stood for a moment and took in some air, the more she breathed the worse it was, but she had to find something to eat. She spotted off in the far distance a big bear, it was drinking water just minding its business when she started after it. She had already drained it of its blood when her parents finally caught up to her and found two deer for themselves to feed on before they made their way back to their home before they were spotted by the enemy lines.
Peter, her father, spoke, “God kid you sure are fast, let’s slow it down alright we got to keep up with you to make sure you are safe alright.”
Charlotte, her mother laughed, “Your dad’s right kid, you need to stay with us or someone from the house before you run off like that again. We aren’t the only ones trying to experiment with the scientists. Everyone is now or they are being forced to because of how bad this is getting. Those wolves are trying anything to get ahead.” Charlotte scoffed under her breath, “Nasty dogs.”
Skylar sighed, “I know, I know I will I am being careful guys see, there is no one around for miles. We aren’t even close to the border of the wolves yet trust me.”
Before anyone else could speak they heard growling with a couple of howls. The wolves must have been doing the same so they took at as their hunt was over and made their way back home before they could be spotted.
Skylar, feeling refreshed, made her way back to the house first of course but not too far ahead this time. She went to the living room this time and sat down to watch the news to see what was going on. Hearing footsteps come through she quickly changed it, so her younger siblings didn’t see the tragedy just yet. The younger two, Josephine and Mark, were only 9 and 10, they weren’t ready to know how the world was knowing they exist, let alone the war between worlds that was collation right now.
Mark giggled as he seen a childish movie on tv and sat with his lunch next to his sister, “You’re awake, see I told you she didn’t explode. You owe me 10 bucks now.”
Josephine frowned and rolled her eyes, “I didn’t say she was going to explode; I said the house you i***t. I’m not paying you nothing you took the last of the fruit snacks.”
Skylar laughed and watched as the two argued over the bet and the snacks while eating. The young ones slowly move from human food and blood to just blood ones as they get older. It takes a while for the venom to take over fully for the young ones. Some of the vampires even eat human food, mainly sweets and salty food because it’s the only kind that you can still take the flavor. Skylar thought back to when she could taste pasta, pizza and chicken. Chicken was the best for her but now it all tastes like mud and dirt and old rotten food. Maybe they will invent something that lets them taste regular food too.
The whole family sat in the living room and watched the movie just as the announcement to take cover came on. They all ran downstairs to the basement as they heard a couple of explosions that sounded so close. They kept the little ones distracted as it hit one right after the other. They shook but held it together.
Charlotte looked at her children with a smile, “Its going to be fine. Don’t worry its almost over then how about we go see if we can find anything good huh?” She winked at the little kids hiding between the adults as they relaxed and smiled. They nodded and started to guess what they could find. Mark said a giant dinosaur while Josephine went on about finding princess clothes. The alarm for all safety finally came on and they all ran upstairs.
Luckily their house and the neighbors seemed okay, but the forest was hit badly, meaning their meal supplies were damaged but they couldn’t tell how badly. A few of the front-line soldiers started down the street to check everyone out to see what the damage was. They were loaded up completely and of course the kids wanted to go see what they were doing. Mainly Mark and Peter grabbed the hands of the younger ones, and they went outside. Mark started asking the blond soldier about his weapon and about tanks and all kinds of army equipment while Josephine just watched them. Skylar went outside and helped the others check everything out.
Skylar took off through the forest checking to see where the attack was coming from. She noticed howling and ran after it. She watched as figures ran further and closer to their line of the properties. She knew she needed to help so she sprinted of. She thought, I can’t let them get here.
