Unexpected

"Why Pat? Why are you doing this to me? To us? To Joey?" Patricia tore her eyes away from her freshly manicured fingernails  before rolling her eyes. " I'm not in love with you anymore okay?" "Mam, we're done." Said one of the men from the moving company before leaving the living room Pat smiled before standing up from the couch  and walking towards me. "Have a nice life baby" She kissed me on my cheek and then  walked out of the house slamming the front door in the process. I slid down onto the floor as I processed what had just happened. "Daddy, where's mommy going?" I looked at my four year old son, and surpressed the tears that were threatening to fall. "Mommy is going on a trip" I placed him in my lap and pushed back his brown curls. "When will she be back?" I stared at the front door and felt my heart rip into two. "Soon." I stood up and carried my son to his room.I sang him a song, and watched as his eyes closed and he fell asleep. With one last kiss goodnight, I  closed his door and walked to my bedroom. The room still smelt like her. Everything reminded me of her. The navy blue curtains that she'd insisted on buying.The white bed sheets that she'd ordered online and payed extra for overnight shipping. The rug that she'd bought on our honeymoon adventure in Dubai. And the custom made pillow cases she'd conivinced me into paying for. Everything in this room, in this house, was all hers. Our entire marriage had been about her. And only her. I had dedicated my life to her... And what does she do? She leaves me. After 8 years of marriage, my wife left me for another man.And what hurts the most, is that I still loved her. I sat down on the bed.My ring felt heavy on my finger. That night I watched the door through teary eyes.Hoping and praying that she would come back. But she didn't. And in the morning I stood up, washed my face and got my son ready for school.
