Chapter Nineteen It was three weeks before Rufus Tomlinson gave his report verbally to Lena late one evening, and early the next day she called Matthew into her office. She closed the door and gave a huge sigh as she sat behind her desk. ‘I’ve told Tomlinson that I don’t want anything in writing,’ Lena said, ‘and not on the phone either. I’ve been meeting him at busy cafés at varying locations in the city where we stand less chance of being overheard or taped.’ Matthew appraised her thoughtfully. ‘You sure that’s necessary?’ ‘I’ve also had him get one of his experts to sweep our office for bugs, but he hasn’t found anything as yet.’ ‘Bugs?’ She gave him a steady stare to emphasise her concern. ‘It’s bad news, Matthew,’ she said quietly. ‘What have you heard?’ Lena continued in a qu
