Chaper 1: the start
It was a peaceful morning, the sun was climbing up in the sky, the birds were chirping and Carol was starting to wake up. As Carol awoke she stretched her arms and legs as her back arched slightly. Dam those birds need to shut up, she thought as she opened her curtains, her long brown hair was messy and under her beautiful green eyes there were slight bags. She didn't sleep well that night trying to send an email to everyone about today's big meeting, her computer was messing up and almost deleted everything and now those irritating little birds had to wake her up. That was probably for the best though, she had to get ready for work. She went into her closet and picked out a nice pencil dress, grabbed a towel and jumped into the shower. Blow Drying her hair and putting it into a ponytail, she applied a small amount of makeup to hide her bags. She was the receptionist and the boss only hired her because she had a ‘pretty face’, so if she went in looking like death the boss might get mad. On her way out of her apartment she remembered to grab the library book that was due today to turn in after work. She used to love books when she was a kid, she still liked them now, it's just that the job took up most of her time.
She got in her car and drove herself to work, traffic was like always, loud and annoying, she still got to work on time, and her boss greeted her as always with a ‘hey there good looking’, she just smiled and returned the hello. As the front desk lady she deals with a lot of entitled and rude people, and today was no exception, this one lady just walked right up and demanded to get an appointment to see the boss. She had called the customer support 9 times and they were not helping her so she needed to talk to their manager. That was normal, Carol just went through the script and it played out how they all do, the woman doesn't listen, yells a lot, throws a fit, leaves and doesn't come back, and Carol just smiles and takes it. The job itself isn't hard, it's the people the job comes with, that's why she reads when she can, people in real life are so annoying and rude, but people in books, you know the reason why they did something, and they are usually really nice people. Letting out a sigh Carol just continued working, it's too bad I can't be in a fairy tale.
After another exhausting day of work Carol drove to the library not far from her office building. It was open until 6:30 so she had around an hour to return the book and get a new one. She entered the old library and was greeted by her favorite librarian, an old lady maybe around 75 that worked there for as long as Carol could remember.
“Why hello there Carol,” The old lady, jenny, greeted cheerfully, “finished that one i see, you don't read as much as you used to.” Jenny remarked as she grabbed the book from carol and ringed it up.
“I know, you say this every time ms. Jenny, I told you work is taking up a lot of my time.” Carol had a lot of patience for Jenny, even if she was repetitive, Jenny always helped her pick out the best books.
“I know, but if you worked here you would have more time,” Jenny looked under the desk for a second before pulling out a new book, “this one just came in and I thought you would like it.” Jenny handed the book to Carol.
The book looked brand new, unlike every other book in the library, it had a deep blue cover with emerald green writing that said, ‘the world of Magica’, there was no description, it seemed like one of those books that has those false covers, but this one lost its cover.
“What's it about?” Carol asked flipping through the pages too fast to actually read.
“It's about a world filled with magic, desyractiong and adventure. Check it out, I promise it's a good one.”
Not one to argue with Jenny about her book choice Carl did indeed check the book out, and as she left, she didn't see the strange smile that was played across the librarians face.
When Carol got home she put the book aside and decided to look up the title. She didn't want to question Jennys input, she would just like a little more information rather than, magic and adventure. But the strange thing is, when she put the title in, nothing showed up, not a single thing. That was strange, yah the library got weird unknown books but even then the books would show at least one page when looked up. But this book, nothing, nadda, squat. That's eerily strange, Carol though as she closed her laptop, tomorrow was her day off, she would start reading then but for now, she will get some well needed rest.
