06: A different scheme

1132 Words
Ria's POV. As supposed to gripping my wrist the way he did when he took me away from Matthew, on getting back into the hall, he locked his fingers into mine and as he did, I turned to face him with a flash of surprise in my eyes, but before I could say a thing, we'd stepped into the hall again. I couldn't possibly retrieve my hand from him. Not after he drew that much attention to me earlier on when in his words he said, ‘I found her.’ Without a choice, I had to play along. While we strode through the ocean of people present in the hall, he lifted a hand waving to them all with a smile on his lips. I on the other hand, just smiled and bowed my head a few times as we proceeded to only heaven knows where. Nonetheless, I followed his lead as he walked me down through the hallway. At first the whole place seemed a bit different and for one, I was happy because he didn't bring me to his bedroom like he did before. However, before long, the place began to look familiar again and as I paid full attention, I realized that he was bringing me to his room but going through a different route. At the thought of it, my formerly calm face was disturbed by a hard tightening of my jaw. “I thought you were bringing me to somewhere else, why are you still bringing me here?” I asked, my voice almost rising to a scream. “Can't you see that I'm bringing you to a different place?” he asked, as a cynical smile pushed his lips to his side. “Is this even funny to you?” I asked, giving out a laughing scoff. “You are bringing me to your bedroom, again!” “Where else would you rather I take you?” he paused, turning to face me with a raised brow. “Just so you know, I love my own privacy which is the more reason why I'm bringing you back here.” “You could have brought anywhere but here.” I said, barely breathing the words. “Did you just say something?” he asked, noticing that my lips moved a little. “No, I didn't.” I said, shaking my head as I spoke the words. In as much as I wasn't comfortable with his decisions, I knew better than to disrespect him and so, I'd to watch my tone. “I thought as much too.” he said, flashing a smile across my worried face. “Now, since we've found a common ground, let's head over.” After saying the words, his grip around me tightened the more as we proceeded to his bedroom. Walking past a few rooms, we finally arrived at his bedroom. And as we did, he lifted a hand, gripped the doorknob and turned it open then he turned to face me. “After you.” he said, stepping aside with a hand directing me inside. I drew in a deep calming breath as I glanced inside the bedroom. The thought of whatever could happen behind closed doors with him seemed to make the nerves in my body shrink but then again, I didn't have any option but to do so. Besides, I didn't want to keep him waiting and if anything, I didn't want to cause a scene where his girlfriend would find us together like it happened back with Carlos. With that in mind, I let out a sharp breath and then walked in. The sound of my footsteps accompanied me inside like escorts. However, as I walked some steps past him, I paused and the next sound that followed was that of the door latch clicking shut, and I knew that was it. Immediately, I turned around so that I wouldn't be taken by surprise. We'd just met, yet he did what he did to me earlier, who knows what he would choose to do this time? More reason I'd to be on guard. “You feel tensed, you should relax yourself.” he said, turning to face me after fastening the door latch. “No one would come in here uninvited. Like I said, I love my privacy and my subjects know better than to dishonor it.” Well, he doesn't really expect me not to feel tensed or does he? I mean, how can he even act like nothing happened between us earlier when something of that magnitude happened, and yet he's just so cool with it? I guess the trait runs in the family because Carlos had also shown some signs of it. However, I knew that I had to be careful because it seemed like he was one to spot weakness faster than strengths. “So what unfinished business do you have with me?” I asked, lifting my chin in an attempt to look confident. “Or better still, what unfinished business do we have?” “You should learn to put your mind at ease, it'll do you a lot better than harm.” he said, ambling towards his bedside table. As he did, my eyes trailed behind him like an escort. As he got to the table, he gripped a bottle of wine with an hourglass figure and then lowered himself to a squat as he pulled out a drawer and brought out two wine glasses. He pushed the drawer shut, righted himself and then turned to face me with a smile. “Are you going to stand all day?” he added, the sound of liquid trickling inside the wine glass and punctuating the air. “I think I'm doing just fine standing here.” I said, burying my face in my hair. My legs were hurting already, but I knew should in case things decide to go south, then it would be easier for me to storm out of the room standing than sitting which was why I chose to do so. Heaving a sigh with my eyes fixed on the floor, I noticed a shadow lengthen towards my figure and as I lifted my face, he was standing before me with a wine glass in his grip as he extended a hand towards me. “Aren't you going to receive it from me?” he asked, raising a brow as a smile pushed his lips to the side. I knew exactly what he was trying to do, but it wasn't working. I wasn't going to feel safe with him, not after what he did a while ago. Nonetheless, I lifted a hand and received it from him. “Pardon me for my thoughtless action earlier, am I forgiven?”
