Ria's POV.
With my back against the wall, I still squeezed my eyes shut as I scoured my mind for an answer to give to him. Silent would only mean that I have accepted his offer which would most certainly ruin what I wanted with Carlos. I mean, I can't even imagine myself having anything to do with his uncle who was old enough to be my father, gross!
Nonetheless, I knew that I had to do something and really fast. It wasn't the first but the second time he'd mentioned those words to me. Once could be a mistake, but twice definitely meant that he knows what he is saying. Not only that, but he also knows what he wants, and I would be so naive to think that he didn't attach any feelings to those words.
Although, last time he brought me into his bedroom, he made mention of wanting me to be his Luna which I considered too direct. Even though he wanted me to be his Luna at least he was supposed to wait till the end of the competition to find a winner or wasn't that the reason for the competition?
Choosing me over the rest of them who would be competing would be synonymous to cheating and I know how it would feel so no one has to go through all that. I wouldn't even take it lightly if I was in their shoes. But aside the competition, I'd other things here to do which required my complete attention but his advances towards me was quite tempting.
In the meantime, I fluttered my eyes open, hoping that he would have taken a step or two backwards, but there he was, still at proximity with me.
“I feel a bit uncomfortable, so I would appreciate it if you took a step backward.” I said, gesturing with a hand.
“Are you sure you don't want me standing this close to you?” he asked, raising a brow. “Or do you need me to come a little closer.”
“Yes!” — my wolf purred.
“No!” I thundered, my voice almost rising to a scream.
As I did, he jerked his head back slightly with a look of confusion masking his face. Realizing what had just happened, I covered my mouth with a hand and then bit down my bottom lip in regret while I squeezed my eyes shut again.
“That is quite strange.” he said, shooting suspicious glances at me. “Are you in some sort of argument with someone?”
“Pardon?” — the retort sprang from my lips as I lifted my face which was masked with a look of surprise to him.
I didn't get the words that he said initially, perhaps because I was wrestling with my thoughts. However, in a second or two, his words sank into my head.
“Oh, no I'm not.” I added, shaking my head as I spoke the words. “I am fine, totally fine.”
“Of course, you are.” he said, with a hint of sarcasm in his voice as he withdrew himself from me.
Watching him do so, I heaved a sigh of relief as I pressed my free hand against my chest. Finally, I could have some breathing space. All through that moment that he was this close to me, the air was filled with his scent and nothing more. At some point, I began to fear if I could actually perceive something different or my nostrils were already accustomed to his scent. But I was proven wrong when he withdrew himself.
He ambled to the other side of the bed, sat on it and then turned to face me with a smile on his lips. He was always doing that — smiling at me. Although, I saw no harm in doing so, but I was beginning to feel uncomfortable with it and even though I didn't want to think it, I couldn't help but do so because it felt like he had another reason for always smiling at me.
With a leg on the bed and the other making contact with the floor, he angled his body to face me.
“You are yet to touch your drink, why is that?” he asked, lifting his and toasting to the air as he took a sip of it. “You should try it, you'll definitely love it.”
I'd even forgotten that he offered me a drink. I mean, how could I not forget when his presence was all over me like some sort of darkness trying to consume my being. As far as I knew, my hand was holding onto something that I couldn't let go for some reason but now, I understood why that was so.
However, I didn't know why he reminded me about the drink. Could it be that he'd added something into it? Pardon me, I know I shouldn't be thinking the way I am, but then I needed to be very careful not to get into anything funny with him which would ruin what I wanted with Carlos. If anything, I didn't have the strength to explain how a mistake happened between his uncle and I so it was best to avoid it before it even happened.
“What proposal are you talking about?” I asked, lifting the wine glass midair as I glanced at the content through the glass.
“Well, it's not really a proposal, but I mentioned to you earlier that I wanted you to be my Luna.” he said, with a look of seriousness masking his face.
“Yes, I will!” my wolf purred inside my head.
“No, I won't!” I blurted out, shouting at the top of my voice.
Again, as I realized what had happened, I lifted a hand and covered my mouth with it. I couldn't understand why my wolf was doing this to me. But the embarrassment was becoming too much, and it was obvious that he was beginning to suspect a thing or two.
“Is there something going on with you?” he asked, narrowing his gaze at the words.
