Chapter 20
Madison, Liam, and Dontrell stood up from their places.
“We should all go and check,” Liam suggested after being too quiet for hours.
Everyone looked at him. He had a point. They did not know who was behind the door below. It could be someone who was a threat to them and being alone would only be dangerous. They already stayed in one house to have each others back so they should always stuck around.
They all looked at Daniel. Amongst all of them, Daniel had the bigger frame. His muscly and tall. He was far from the Daniel six years ago who was also tall but skinny. The Daniel who was helpless and hopeless.
They slowly walked down the stairs. They did not make any sounds. Surely the person or the people outside knew that someone was inside but just to make sure, they moved quietly. Daniel was in front while the others while hiding behind him. They made sure to put Liam at the very back to ensure his safety.
Daniel slowly slid the cover of the peep hole. They were all breathing heavily. Thanks to the moon he was still able to see what was outside. They heard another knock. Madison tightly held Dontrell’s shirt. She is not scared, she thought to herself repeatedly.
Daniel saw a silhouette from the outside. It was a person. He also saw how the wind blew the hair of the person outside. He could also see how it hugged itself and shivered because of the cold wind. The wind was strong that they could hear it whistle. They wondered where could that wind came from if they were just inside an underground establishment.
Daniel saw the face of the person outside as it looked back to assess the area. The moon illuminated its face. He was unfamiliar to him but he was surely one of the teammates they had earlier.
What does it need from them? Daniel thought to himself.
