Chapter 1
Ella's POV:
When I saw my older cousin jump into the river without hesitation to save the drowning man right in front of us, I knew... she had been reborn too.
In my previous life, my cousin and I spotted the man at the exact same moment.
She turned and walked away without a second glance. I, on the other hand, rushed into the water and pulled him to safety.
It turned out the man was the wealthiest tycoon in the country.
Not only did he give me an unlimited black credit card, but he also asked me to marry him.
Meanwhile, my cousin was punished for refusing to help. She lost her job and sank into overwhelming debt.
Watching me drive luxury cars and carry designer handbags, she finally snapped.
She kidn*pped me, hacked my body to pieces, and dumped my remains into an outhouse, where maggots feasted on my flesh.
When I opened my eyes again...
I was back on the very day of that river rescue.

"Help!"
The desperate cry jolted me back to my senses. Caleb Farrell was thrashing wildly in the river.
But this time... I looked away.
"What are you doing sitting there on the inflatable raft? Why aren't you jumping in to help?"
My cousin, Marie Belmont's voice drifted into my ears. Beneath her anxious tone, I could hear something else. She was terrified I would say yes.
"Marie, I'm not a strong swimmer. What if I drown trying to save him?"
The moment she heard my answer, Marie let out a quiet sigh of relief. Then she gave a cold laugh and deliberately shouted loud enough for everyone nearby to hear.
"Ella, I never realized how selfish you are! This is a human life! How can you just stand there and let him die?"
Someone paddling over on another inflatable raft frowned and called out.
"The current is too strong here! You two girls won't be able to pull a grown man out safely. We've already called emergency services. They'll be here any minute!"
"You have no idea who this man is... " Marie abruptly cut herself off.
She pointed at me and sneered. "Ella, when I save him, don't you dare try to steal the credit!"
I smiled to myself. I knew exactly why she was acting this way.
In my previous life, Caleb had claimed he was a lucky charm. Whoever saved him would be blessed with wealth and extraordinary good fortune.
And he had been right. After I rescued him, I was promoted and eventually became Marie's supervisor.
This handsome and charismatic man showered me with affection. He gave me entire collections of luxury designer handbags.
He even offered to transfer ownership of his lavish downtown mansion to me as a reward for saving his life.
At the time, however, Marie had hit rock bottom. She had spent our entire lives believing she was better than me in every way.
Watching me achieve everything so effortlessly filled her with bitter jealousy.
So after being reborn, the very first thing she did was steal the opportunity that had once belonged to me.
Splash!
She dove into the river and struggled with all her strength to drag Caleb back to the raft.
When she realized he wasn't breathing, she immediately began performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation in full view of everyone watching.
"Marie, the paramedics are here. Why don't you let them take over? What if he wakes up and accuses you of hurting him? We've all seen stories like that online, haven't we?"
I knew her well. The more I tried to stop her, the more determined she would become.
"Ella, I never knew you could be this heartless! If you don't want to help, then stay out of my way and keep your nasty comments to yourself!"
She climbed into the ambulance with the rescue team and called out confidently.
"I'm his girlfriend! I'll pay all of his medical expenses!"
As I watched the ambulance drive away, a smile slowly spread across my face.
Marie...
If you want this opportunity so badly...
Then it's all yours.
