My Alphas Promise

Maddy's POV:         I sigh as I take a final look at myself in my bedroom mirror. Last day as an intern at the pack hospital means last day wearing these ugly dark yellow scrubs. Don't get me wrong, I love the color as much as the next girl but on my tiny 5'1 frame it just wasn't flattering. I start throwing my messy curls up in a bun as I head down the stairs into the chaos known as breakfast.          Living in the pack house had its perks but if you ever wanted a civilized quiet meal then you were at the wrong place.          Everyone greets me as I make my way around the buffet of food. I finally sit down and as I'm about to take a bite out of a delicious looking cinnamon roll out of the corner of the room comes my brother, future Alpha of the pack and my twin.          Laughing next to him, his best friend, Max, who would be his Beta when the time came.          All the females in the pack adore my brother and always hover around him hoping he will notice them. Unlike Max, who loves the attention, my brother only has eyes for his future mate, who ever she may be. Jacob has always been very excited about turning 18, awakening his wolf and finding his mate, he's never been worried about his first shift or taking on responsibilities as the packs future Alpha. I'm jealous in a way because everything has always come natural for him, where I stay up late, nose stuck in my medical books trying my best to be half as good of a doctor as our current one, Mr. Andrews.          Being the Alphas daughter doesn't mean near as many responsibilities as Jacob but I have almost all the same strengths he does. Speed, strength, agility, can spar with anyone during training and hold my own, my only fault was that I was born a girl.          "Good Morning everyone"          I snap out of my own thoughts and look up as my father and mother had walked in "Good morning Alpha, Luna" we all say.          "This week is an exciting week for us all, it's our packs turn to host for the full moon celebration and also to introduce our future alpha, my son, to the other packs" my father beams with pride at Jacob who try to smile but hates the attention. I laugh to myself at his look of embarrassment, I mind-link him quick to poke fun.          "How does it feel being the favorite this morning?"          Being twins and the Alphas children we didn't have to wait until we were 18 to mind-link each other, it's just always something we could do but to no one else in the pack, it was our very own weird twin thing.          He smiled and then found me in the crowd of food and chaos before sticking his tongue out returning his focus to our father. You wouldn't know it from my fathers husky build and gruff features but he really was just a big softy, the way he doted on us kids and my mom were something that people always stopped to admire.          "I appreciate you all coming together to help prepare tonight's feast and I know we all make sure our guests feel welcome during their stay this week. We are also celebrating my children's birthdays, turning 18 and finally able to find their mates" this makes my mother next to him squeak with joy, she looks so small standing next to my dad, like me she was petite and curvy, same brown toffee hair like me but she had these warm brown eyes that always made people feel comfortable to speak with her where mine were like a mossy dark green.          She started talking to everyone about their duties in the kitchen and around the pack house and the back yard where the celebration would take place. As Luna of the pack it was my moms job to keep the peace and maintain order but she especially loved hosting parties and events.          I continued my focus on breakfast before I had to leave for my last shift as a yellow blob, hoping if I keep my head down for a while longer I won't get roped into party decorating by my mother.                                                                                         ***         I walk into the pack hospital and quickly find Dr. Andrews already in a room with a sparring injury, few cracked ribs from the look of the bruising, shouldn't take too long to heal up but I'm sure he will recommend bed rest for the remainder of the day.          Us wolves heal faster than the average human being but that doesn't mean a few cracked ribs still don't hurt like hell. looking up from the boy he noticed me walking over and confusion hit his face.          "Maddy? What are you doing here today? Shouldn't you be getting ready for the party?"          As the Alphas daughter I should be helping host and plan but I wanted to be here away from all the excitement, here is where I felt the most myself, not hanging streamers or deciding which floral arrangement goes where. Personally I wasn't excited about the party or my upcoming birthday tomorrow. I didn't want to find my mate and lose myself in them. I still wanted my own identity and freedom, not to be someone's personal s*x toy and bearer of their off spring.          "Hey Dr Andrews, I figured I'd come help out with the sparring injuries and then check in on the newborn pups before the party started, didn't want to shrug off my last day as an intern just because there's a party going on"          He smiled softy, "Maddy no one here would ever think you were shrinking your responsibilities at the hospital, you practically live here. I want you to go on and take the day off, you have other responsibilities to attend to today and I know a big birthday tomorrow".          "Are you sure? I really don't mind sticking around to help out" I say in a hopeful, almost desperate tone. I know I could easily waste my whole day cuddling the newborn pups.          He must of caught on to my motives of avoiding all the excitement and chuckled softy "We will be fine without you today Madeline, I'll be sure to page you if something requiring your assistance comes up. I'm sure your mother is looking for you anyways"          I sighed, I knew when he used my full name there was no changing his mind. he was probably right anyways, for occasions like today there was no way I was getting out of attending. My mother probably already has a dress strung up in my room for the party, wonder what she had picked out.          "Okay, Ill see you at the party tonight, have a good day doctor" I waved as I left the wing and headed back to the pack house.                                                                                     ***         Walking back to the pack house left me time to process and think about the upcoming week. What if I do find my mate? What if he is from a different pack? What if he was here the whole time? So many questions started flowing through my mind. but then I started thinking about what if I don't find my mate? Just go through life alone or with someone to just pass the time with.          We had a few members in our pack who never found their mate and while they seem happy you can tell they are missing something in their life which makes sense. Sure they date and have their fun but it's not that same as finding the one person the Moon goddess herself made just for you. I hope I will be happy either way, mate or no mate I have the hospital and the duties there take up a lot of my time anyways. Plus I will have my brother who will be Alpha and need me for support, Then eventually he will have pups of his own and I will have to fulfill my role of being the best Aunt around. I will be fine whatever happens.          Caught up in my thoughts I hadn't realized I walked right into where the party was going to be held, people were scrambling everywhere to make sure all the final touches where in place and in the center of the yard was my mother who quickly locked eyes with me and smiled.          "Madeline! I was wondering when you were going to come down and help! What do you think of everything to far?" I turned full circle to take it all in, lights hung from the trees, round tables with light grey covers draped over them and wild flower arrangements on every single one. The stage was in the front of the yard with a white backdrop and flowers along the edges. Two long tables were in the back which I expected were to later be filled with food and goodies.          "It looks amazing mom, You really have outdone yourself this time." This seemed to be the right answer as her face lit up. She then ushered me to a table and asked me to finish helping wrap up the napkins and tie them off with a simple grey ribbon, which I attempted and she re did.           "Are you excited about your birthday tomorrow sweetie?"          "Mmm, Yes and no I suppose. I'm excited to awaken my wolf and shift with the pack. Also, I'm now a resident at the hospital and I get more responsibilities." She sat and thought about it for a minute until she asked me how I felt about finding my mate, I tried explaining the best I could about how I'd like to find my mate but at the same time I didn't want to give all of myself to one person and be so caught up in them that I no longer do things I enjoy.          "Well, when I was your age I felt the same way, I wasn't ready to settle down, I considered myself a free spirit and definitely not Luna material, but once I locked eyes with your father all that worry melted away. The Moon goddess herself made him just for me. Not to be my superior or I to him but to be equal halves to a whole. She wouldn't give you a mate that takes away everything that makes you so perfectly you." she said with a smile, I thought about it and while it did make sense I still had some nervousness about the whole thing.          "Tell you what, why don't you go handle things inside the house and make sure things are tidied up while I finish things up out here, okay?" I agreed and snuck in a hug real quick before I started making my way inside, I faintly heard her yell to me about not being late for tonight which made me chuckle a little as I opened the door to what could only be described as absolute mayhem.                                                                                      ***         After hours of cleaning and yelling at pups to stop wrestling around breaking things, the place looked presentable enough for this evening. I started up the stairs into my room and sure enough as I opened the door there was a slim fitting long pale peach gown hung up on the side of my mirror.          "Ughhh Goddess help me" I said to myself before falling onto my bed. I pulled out my phone to text my best friend Charlie, Charlette known to everyone else, to tell her about the surprise I had waiting for me in my room.          Charlie had been my friend ever since we were little pups rolling around in the mud sparring with each other, trying to mimic the actual combat training that we saw happening on the grounds. Charlie was one of the Omegas here in the pack and lived in one of the few smaller pack houses surrounding the property, and even though she was a female and an Omega she was one of the best warriors I had seen. She was quick to react and used her speed to trip up her opponent, even my brother and Max both had a hard time keeping up with her.          Soon after my message sent my bedroom door flung open and in came my best friend already pumped for the party happening tonight.         "Oh my Goddess its so beautiful! This will def compliment your tan skin love! Maybe even catch a few eyes tonight huh?" she said with a wink.          Charlie had her birthday last week and still hadn't found her mate so in her eyes the celebration tonight and inviting other packs and their selected guests just amped up her chances of finding her mate. I had to laugh at her excitement.          "Tonight is to welcome the packs and also introduce Jacob as future pack leader, not for me to catch the wandering eyes of some hormonal male werewolves"          "Ahhh Jacob, I bet he will look great tonight in his suit all dolled up" she said, head tilted in thought. She's had a crush on my brother for years, though she will never admit it. Charlie, like my brother has chose to wait and experience all her firsts with her mate. not like she couldn't have any male she wanted though. She was the typical beautiful tall slender blonde with the bright blue eyes, every mans dream.          "That's my brother you're talking about ya know, keep it to yourself before I gag" I faked a shudder jokingly as I stood up and headed to the shower to begin the torture that was getting ready for this celebration. Elijah's POV:         I always hated attending these events, you would think being an Alpha I wouldn't have to attend the full week, only the meetings with other alphas to discuss our boarders and the ever growing rogue problems we all seem to be having. I don't see why I need to attend the birthday part of the event or even the big ceremony to formally introduce the future Alpha.          I have met the future Alpha Jacob Grey a few times as he has sat in on a few meetings with his father Alpha Mason, bright kid and I think he will be a great leader to his pack just like his father. His mother, Luna Evelyn, I have only met once in passing but she seemed like a genuinely kind woman, something to do with her eyes I think. I know they have another child, daughter I believe, probably will meet her during the birthday part of the festivities.          I sighed as I got out of the car, with my Beta Tyler and his mate Paige. Being 21 I still have yet to find my mate and have honestly given up on looking which has saddened my mother a great deal, The woman wants grandpups like a fat kid wants cake.          Tyler and Paige went ahead to greet our hosts while I sat back to take in the last bit of silence i could before I go in and join the party. Tyler knew with social events like this I needed my space for a few before walking in and putting on a show.          My parents who had already arrived and my younger sister, Sophie, quickly came out to find me along with a few of our other pack members who were chosen to protect us this week.          "How's the party so far mother? everything to your liking?" before she could answer my sister quickly started rambling off about the buffet of deserts          " They have 7 different kinds of cakes over there!" I laughed, only 13 but I swear she lives for food, goddess help her future mate and kitchen staff.          "Well what are we waiting for? Lets go try some cake" She gave me the biggest smile and took off towards the long table.          My father sighed, "How is she not huge by now?"          Me and my mother laughed at this while we all headed in towards the crowd. My mother caught my arm in hers "There's lots of pretty girls here, maybe tonight will be the night you find your mate, how exciting would that be? She said in a hopeful tone looking up at me hoping to see any kind of excitement on my face.          "Mother, we have been through this, I'm perfectly fine on my own. Gives me time to run the pack efficiently and spoil Sophie in my free time" I said to her teasingly "I don't need a mate right now, I'm perfectly fine mother."          My wolf, Novi has been pacing since we arrived here, he should know we aren't in any danger, the Northern pack may be big in number but they pose no threat to me and my pack. "What's going on Novi?"          He huffed at me in annoyance like I disrupted his concentration so I went back to my conversation with mother, I'll try talking to him again later when he is in a better mood.          "...So some grandpups soon would be nice, that's all I'm saying" I nod as if I have been paying attention this whole time.          "I will keep my eye out mother and if I find my mate you will be the first to know."           This seemed to satisfy her as she gave my arm a tight hug and went off after my father and Sophie. I stay behind watching them, you wouldn't know it looking from the outside but my family still grieves the loss of Dean, my older brother.          He was set to take over the pack until he decided he didn't want to lead the way my father had, his selfish ambition was his biggest fault. He believed we should have one Alpha and only one pack, when father disagreed and told him he wouldn't be willing to make him Alpha in fear of endangering our pack, him and his mate decided to run off, abandon our home and family.          My father was left with no choice but to classify them as rouges. It's been hard, especially on Sophie who was too young at the time to understand what had happened. I hope one day we can all make peace. My thoughts were interrupted as our host, Alpha Mason and Luna Evelyn came to the stage.          "Welcome Everyone! Thank you you all for coming to celebrate here with us this week"          Tyler found his way to my side, he had left his mate with my family at a nearby table. as our hosts continued their warm welcome speech to all the packs I mind linked Tyler.          "My wolf has been pacing since we arrived, like he is on edge what about you?"         "No man, Koda hasn't been acting strange at all, everything okay?"         "Hmm well keep an eye out just in case, he's never acted like this before"          "Yessir, I'll alert the others as well"         I turned my attention back to the stage as Tyler walked towards the table          "And without further ado, my son, future Alpha of the Northern pack, Jacob Grey!" His son stood proudly next to his dad and smiled out into the crowd.          I know they are father and son but Jacob definitely took after his mother and her soft features, almost no resemblance to his fathers ruggedness.           I saw him throw a wink to someone behind me but before I could turn to look a scent hit me so strongly that I thought I'd been hit by a truck. The scent was a beautiful mix of Lilac and fresh rain.          My body language must of changed because Tyler instantly chimed in from across the way          "You good boss? It looks like you have seen a ghost?"          I quickly ignored him because Novi was going nuts in my head, running in circles and howling in glee "MATE" was all I could make out.          I stood there in disbelief, I couldn't believe that I had finally found her.          I searched the crowd. I didn't see anyone stand out but when I turned around it was like a magnet guiding me right to her. Oh my goddess was she beautiful.          She stood there before me in a simple peach gown that showed off her small figure,  but nothing about this woman was simple. She had caramel curls down to her waist and the most gorgeous green eyes I had ever seen in my life.          She was looking at the stage completely oblivious to me, she was smiling and laughing with a tall blonde girl, I could listen to this woman's laugh for the rest of my life. She was the most perfect creature I had ever laid eyes on. Before I knew it was walking over to her.          My mate. My Luna. Finally, I found you... Maddy's POV:         Once I was properly shaved, scrubbed and the water was ice cold I got out of the shower and started raking my hands through my hair, finally I decided I wasn't going to fight my curls and just let them do their thing tonight.          I stepped out into my room where Charlie was already done up. She wore a long dark purple gown with her hair in a twisty up-do with some flowers thrown in. I swear she made it look effortless. She was staring out the window into the well lit up party          "See anything you like out there?" I said with a smile.          She laughed and turned to me, "If I did, I would already be down there squealing with joy, wrapped in the arms of what I'm sure will be the most handsome man on the planet"          I laughed with her as I went to check the time. 11:45pm, damn it I'm running late.          "Why don't you go down there and stall my mom for me?  We are running late to yet another pack function and I don't want to face her Luna wrath tonight"          "Oh damn!" She said as she sprung into action, "Okay hurry up, I'll try to keep her busy as long as I can but we both know if you aren't down there by the time they introduce your brother you are toast"          And like that she was running down the stairs. Ughhh I thought to myself, I quickly stepped into my gown and instantly approved of my mothers choice. It accented all my curves and yet was still breathable, sadly though I was stepping on the hem so heels for the night it was. Thankfully my mother had picked some of those out for me as well.          I went with a less is more approach as always with my makeup. Some mascara and a little bit of nude lipstick. I stood back and assessed myself, decided I looked well enough for the occasion, and then set off stumbling down the stairs in these ridiculous shoes. I don't know who ever created them but in this instance I only wished ill will upon them.          My hair was still damp but had already started to frizz at the bottom but I didn't have time to fuss over it now. I  looked at the time. 12:00am. well happy birthday Maddy,  just then I heard my dad starting up on stage which caused me to jump and rush out the room.                                                                                             ***         Finally made it outside, my eyes searched the crowd until I found Charlie, she caught my eye and made her way to the back row to me.          "What did I miss" I whispered and I was trying to keep my balance.          "The usual welcome speech and he is talking up your brother."          " Oh good, I didn't miss the formal introduction then " I sighed in relief.          Just barely made it because in the same thought I heard my dad say          "Without further ado, my son, future Alpha of the Northern pack, Jacob Grey!"          Me and Charlie cheered and whistled like the giddy little kids we are which in turn made Jacob wink at me, few others just stared at us like we were some crazy fan girls of his.          He was all smiles next to my parents, I tried to take a mental picture and savor this moment of how happy my brother was and just how deserving of this he truly was but just then I felt a terrible headache coming on out of nowhere, causing me to have to close my eyes and breathe through my mouth for a few minutes but then I heard a strange voice.         "Hello my girl, I've been dying to finally speak with you"          Once the pain subsided and it took me a minute to realize, who it was, I couldn't calm down. It was my wolf! I finally awoken my wolf!          "Oh my goddess! Hi! What's your name? Oh I can't wait to shift and run with the rest of the pack! What do you look like? Do you have white fur like my parents?"          "Calm down now" she said with a slight chuckle.         "My name is Bodhi and we will shift all in due time, Enjoy your brothers party my girl, we have all the time in the world to talk later"          I was hyped up with excitement,  I quickly mind-linked Jacob.         "I talked to my wolf!! What about you?!"          "Yeah I just spoke with him, my head still kinda hurts though, I'll be down there in a few with drinks for us, it is our birthday after all"         I looked up at the stage to him and he smiled as he hopped down and over to the food tables.          I wanted to tell Charlie immediately that I had met my wolf and that Jacob was bringing drinks but she was frozen with maybe a slight bit of drool coming out the corner of her mouth, when I looked in the direction she was staring I noticed a dark figure coming towards us but even more so a strong smell of fresh baked bread and Cinnamon.           The smell was intoxicating. I took a deep breath, completely immersed in the smell.          When I opened my eyes a man was before me, Bodhi who was silent started purring and running around in excitement          "MATE!" WE FOUND OUR MATE"          I then looked the man in the eyes, those beautiful chocolate eyes, and immediately we both spoke "Mine".....
