Chapter 6: Overtime

"My desire for overtime pay is not as strong as my desire to not be here."

-SAVANNAH ZEN POV-

I'm not sure how I will feel now. I was delighted and excited because of Luke's message to me. But when I walked into our office, I was a little disappointed in seeing Sir Brylle instead of Luke.

"Good morning, Sir Brylle!" I greeted Sir Brylle in hushed tones and then bowed.

"Good morning too! What happened? Do you have a serious illness?" Sir Brylle asked me.

"Hahaha! No, Sir! I don't have any serious illnesses." I replied and laughed.

"Okay! By the way, Ms. Miller, please check all these business proposals because there will be a board meeting next week and please summarize all my schedules next month." Brylle instructed me while he was busy playing games.

"Okay, Sir! Noted!" I answered briefly while looking around.

"Who are you looking for? Is it Luke?" Brylle seriously asked me and laughed bitterly.

"Huh? No, Sir!" Sir Brylle's question caught me off guard, so I responded immediately.

"Okay! He is currently absent because he is on vacation with his girlfriend." Brylle replied coldly. I don’t know what to answer, but it truly hurts me.

"Okay, Sir! Thank you for the information!" I answered with a cracked voice.

I relied on Luke's sweet words. So I was hurt like this. Because of what I heard, I immersed myself in work. I didn't notice the passing of time. It was already time for lunch.

So I went to the canteen by myself. I went straight to the office after eating to continue working. And I noticed Brylle staring at me.

"Are you done eating?" He asked with a concerned voice.

"Yes, Sir!" I replied briefly.

"Okay! Good. I'm leaving first, just call me when you need something. Here is my number." He handed over his calling card.

"Okay, Sir! Thank you." Then, I smiled at him. Sir Brylle is eye-catching, but I don't see him with a girlfriend.

"Maybe he's gay?" I whispered and laughed.

"Who is gay?" Sir Brylle asked. I was shocked because I didn't notice that he had returned.

"Our neighbor, Sir." I lied because I was afraid he might get angry and kiss me. Oh my God!

"Okay! I thought I'm the one you referred to as gay. Because if you said it in front of me, I'd truly prove to you that I'm not gay. Hahaha," Brylle said and winked at me.

"By the way, I already have a special someone in my heart, but she is already with someone else, so I haven't dated with other girls because I still hope we will be together one day." Sir Brylle continued.

"Wow! Sir, Don’t expect her to love you back! You will only get hurt, like me. So let's just move on. Hahaha," I teased him.

"Yeah! Nice idea! But I need to go. Take care! Bye," He replied and waved at me.

When Sir Brylle left, I was left speechless. I miss Luke so much. Because I didn't finish what Sir Brylle asked me to do, I just worked overtime. And I just ate the food I would have brought for Luke this lunch.

The night before I finished, it was 9:00 p.m. I was about to leave when I noticed a shadow on the office door. I could see someone wanting to enter because all the doors were made of glass. Then, I hid at Sir Brylle's table out of fear. Since I was hiding and could no longer be seen, I called Luke.

"Hello? Who is this?" The woman on the other line asked. I forgot that Luke was on vacation with his girlfriend. I just laughed bitterly, then my tears flowed. I didn't answer her. Then I hung up. It was a good thing that Brylle had left me his phone number, so I called him.

I just called him, and he answered right away.

"Sir, help me. Someone wants to enter your office. I am scared." Then I ended the call.

When I looked at the door, it was already open. And I noticed the man with a bonnet approaching at Sir Brylle's table. So I was trembling. What will I do if he sees me? So I just prayed.

"God, please help me. I don't want to die. My family still needs me." I whispered as my tears dripped.

I just closed my eyes as he approached my hiding spot out of fear. And I was startled by a gunshot, and the man ran. And I noticed Brylle panting as he entered the room.

"Sav? Where are you?" Brylle called me while holding his breath.

"Sir, Brylle?" I answered as I ran and hugged him tightly.

"Thank you, Sir! For saving me." I sobbed then he wiped away my tears.

"Don't work overtime again, okay? Come on! I'll bring you home." Brylle said while holding my hand. Sir Brylle appeared to be a ferocious warrior, but he was simply a gentle soul.

While we were on the trip, he asked me.

"Sav, Why did you go back to Luke’s life?" Brylle asked me a serious question.

"I'm not returning; it was just a coincidence that we met here at your company. But I also thanked the Lord for bringing us back together so that I could apologize to him." I responded while gazing out the window of his car.

"Aren't you worried about what Luke might do to you?" Brylle stated meaningfully.

"I don't mind as long as he forgives me," I replied without hesitation.

"Okay! But let me remind you to be cautious. Luke isn't the same as he used to be; a lot has changed in him since you left. Prepare yourself for what is about to come." Brylle told me with concern.

"Thank you for your concern, Brylle. I thought you were cold-hearted." Then I put on a fake smile.

"Don't bother smiling at me, Sav. Your smile is fake." Then he rolled his eyes.

"Hahaha! Sorry, Sir Brylle." Then I give him my most endearing smile.

"Why did you say sorry?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Nothing, but thank you so much for answering my call and saving me." Then I took a deep breath.

"I will not accept your thankfulness; Instead, I would like you to treat me to dinner right now." He said and winked at me.

"But, Sir! I'm sorry, but I don't have any money. When I get my salary, I'll let you know. I'll take you out to dinner." I replied and exhaled deeply. I hadn't received my salary yet, but my money had already been gone.

"But don't worry; just cook something quick and easy; I'm not picky about food," Brylle replied, which makes me relieved.

"Really?" I asked him in shock. I can't believe it because their family is the wealthiest in Dreamland Province.

"Yes!" He replied briefly and smiled at me. 

When Sir Brylle smiles, he is very handsome. But I'm not going to tell him that I had a crush on him before when I first saw him, and he gave me a bouquet.

A few minutes later...

I hurriedly prepared our dinner when we arrived at the apartment. I only cooked "Pork Adobo." When we started eating, Brylle asked me.

"Sav, Has Luke been here before?" Brylle began asking questions, which is why I paused for a moment. How can I tell him Luke slept here as well?

"Yes! Why did you ask?" I curiously asked him.

"Nothing! Do you still have feelings for him?" Brylle was curious about my emotions. I'm not sure how I am supposed to tell him the truth. Is it safe to put my faith in him?

"I do not know. I'm confused." I replied briefly and continued eating. I didn’t tell Brylle that I still loved Luke because I was confused. It is hard to love someone who owns someone else.

"Okay! I respect your answer." He said and smiled.

Brylle left after we finished eating. I hurried to wash the dishes because it was 10 p.m. and I needed to sleep.

I was about to lie down when I heard a knock on my door. I stood up and looked at the person who had knocked. I was shocked because Luke was standing outside. What exactly is he doing here?

And I recall Luke being on vacation with his girlfriend, and Luke's girlfriend had previously answered my call. That's why I despise him. I don't want to be just a pastime.

"Sav? Open the door!" Luke called me, but I never answered him.

"Please forgive me, Luke. But now that you have a girlfriend, I don't want to rely on you. That was the end of our wonderful times together. I knew I was a jerk, but I still let my heart fall for you. Because I am hoping we can rediscover our love for each other." I whispered, and my tears dripped.

Half an hour later, he left as well. So I went back to my room to sleep.

Many thoughts raced through my mind. As to why Luke insisted on approaching me even though he already had a girlfriend. Did he come closer to me because he had bad intentions? Will Luke take revenge? But I'll just let him do what he wants because I have done wrong to him before.

As the golden rule stated, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." So I also deserve Luke to hurt me because I hurt him too in the past. I don't want to aggravate him any further.

It hurts to rely on someone who does not intend to love you. They will easily make you fall in love with them and then abandon you without saying goodbye.
