I'm completely stunned to find Amelia with Xavier's Beta at this hour. He looks furious; she looks like she's been crying for a full day.
"What's going on? Why are you crying?" I ask, genuinely alarmed.
"I lost him. I know I made a mistake, I just wanted to be with him, I—" she breaks down before finishing.
"What's happening here?" Xavier asks, stepping up beside me. I hadn't realized he was there.
"She's my mate," his Beta answers, disgust dripping off every word, and I shoot him a glare. Why is he disgusted by that?
"Why are you angry, then? You've always wanted a mate," Xavier asks, eyebrow raised.
"She's already mated with someone else," his Beta spits.
"Amelia was engaged. That wasn't her choice — it was her family's decision," I snap, already
