The bartender

“Erica” my mum’s soft voice called out my in pains while lying on top of her blood in the middle of the road. “Mum” I called out her name with tears flowing down my face. I stretched out my hands to get hold of my mum from the other side of the road but the more I tried to reach out to her, the further we became apart. “Mu. .m” I kept calling out to my mum as I felt tears roll down my eyes . I woke up immediately and I realized it was thesame nightmare I had most of the time.I wiped the tear from the side my eye. I took out my phone from the side of my bed to check the time . ‘8:45’ I muttered under my breath, ‘I don’t want to get up’I pulled my duvet roughly over my head feeling frustrated and I stayed in bed for some minutes before I heard my phone ringing. I flung the duvet to the other side of my bed and picked the call ‘speak of the devil’. “Good morning sunshine” I heard a sharp voice through my phone. “Natalie, isn’t it to early to be calling a person, I’m having my beauty sleep”I said while trying to find my flip flops under my bed. She laughed loud and I could feel pains in my ears. ‘Natalie is so loud,but I love her regardless’. “Won’t you ask me how my date with zack went” she said. “No,because I know it ended with you guys having s*x”. I replied. I obviously know she would start lying. It’s been six months since Natalie and Zack met at our bar and up till now, I still don’t know if they are in a relationship or if they are just friends with benefits. “No . . No” she tried denying that they have s*x but I already know when she’s trying to lie through her nose. “No, we just saw a movie together, we had wine and some drinks and we kissed”. “ Is that all?” I asked. She chuckled and I know her cheeks is hurting by now from smiling too much. “Well. . We kissed and we had s*x too, why is it so obvious to you?” She asked. “Because I’ve known you for 6 years Natalie, I know what you’re capable of doing”. I smiled, “ Natalie, I have to go for my job at Pizza place, I’ll see you later okay, I love you, bye”. I ended the call and walked into my bathroom where I took my shower and brushed my teeth. Then I walked to my small closet and picked out my dress for the day. It was a skinny Jean and a short sleeve polo with writing ‘pizza place’ embroidered on it. I packed my straight her into a messy bun and I was all ready for work as a pizza delivery girl. I had to take a delivery job during the day and went to worked at the club at night. When I started working two jobs at first, it was overwhelming for me and draining but look at me now, I’m used to it. I called out from my little apartment which was closed to the road and took a bus to work.

It was a stressful day at work,I did a lot of deliveries and still got underpaid by my boss, he’s so inconsiderate but I need the little Money to pay some of my bills. ‘ I really deserve a raise, he obviously knows the kind of people I deliver pizza to, the grumpy customers, the rude customers, the spoilt rich kids. The list is endless but still, I’m happy the little money would help me a lot. So, I can’t quit now but I know one day I’ll definitely get a better paying job’. Although I was already tired, I still had another job waiting for me at the bar ‘lord have mercy’. I quickly went home and had something little to eat and then went straight to the bar.

When I got to the bar and opened the door, I was struck by the most amazing sight. I saw a very handsome man, his dark hair was as dark as charcoal, his blue eyes were as blue as the ocean and his shoulders were broad. ‘Oh I wish I could touch him’. “Hi, my name is Henry, I was hired yesterday. What’s your name princess?” . I was too stunned to speak. ‘I think I might faint’ i muttered to myself. “My name is Erica, nice meeting you”, then i immediately went to the changing room where I met Natalie changing into her uniform. “Oh my God, Natalie,did you see that beauty?”I asked while clutching my hands together and jumping like a fan girl. “He is so handsome, I think I might fall in love” I said and hugged Natalie from the back. “Yes, he is handsome but handsome boys are f**k boys, remember?” Please change into your uniform, we have work” she said and walked out of the dressing room. ‘ why is she being mean’, ‘ Henry is so fine’ i said out loud with dreamy eyes.

While we worked, I still couldn’t get my eyes off Henry,I tried to but I couldn’t. After serving a table,I would purposely pass in front of him with a sweet smile on my face. ‘Am I being desperate?. . . I don’t mind,he’s worth it’.

When we were done with work, we changed back into our casual clothes.On our way to the door, Natalie just passed Henry without saying anything. I wanted to catch up with her but I had to tell my sweet Henry goodbye first. “Good night Henry, see you tomorrow”, I said smiling sweetly at him. “ Good night princess”. Then i caught up with Natalie by the road, she didn’t even utter a word to me on our way home. I wanted to ask her what was wrong with her but i didn’t want to get on her bad side this night. I’m so exhausted.
