Ren, “Baby’s out. 11:25” the nurse declared. “Clamp. Scissors.” I asked. The separated the umbilical cord from the baby and mother and gave the baby to the nurse. She took him to a table. Slapping his back gently, trying to make him cry but nothing happened. I started finishing up the rest of the operation. “Continue the compression.” I said. “Placenta is coming out.” The nurse came to assist. “I'll finish up. Sutures please.” I said taking it from her hands and started sewing everything back. “Please… please… please…” I heard intern saying that. He put resuscitator bag on his mouth to pump air but still it didn’t work. He tried and tried but nothing worked. “This isn’t working. Let’s intubate.” My heart started racing. I didn’t want it. The baby should not go like this. Suddenly something came in me when I heard the intern saying, “It’s not working. This baby will die.” “Let me try.” I said. “you, intern, go and finish her up.” I ordered. “but…!!!” he started. “I'll look after him. Head nurse, help him please.” Just as they left, I unlocked the necklace, letting it slip in the floor and just as I heard the voice of it touching the ground, I lifted the baby in my arms. He was still b****y but it didn’t bother me. I patted his back gently. Once… twice… thrice… and suddenly he started crying in loud screams. I looked behind and everyone was in an awe. It was a miracle for everyone. He came to life after being dead for five minutes. I saw smile in everyone’s face. I feel happy myself. Head nurse took the baby from my hands to clean him. I left the ward went straight to the clean up. * “nurse, take the baby to the NICU, fast.” “yes, head nurse. Don’t worry, I will take him safely.” The nurse wrapped the baby carefully in a blanket and was about to take of when I stopped her. “wait a minute!!!” I said. I suspected a slight improvement in the mother’s pulse. So, I went and pressed my fingers on the side of her neck. “ROSC…. (Return of spontaneous circulation) she is back. The mother is back.” I declared. Everyone took a sign of relief. They all looked happy hearing the news. “put her in a central line! Give her norepinephrine.” I ordered the nurse. “we’ll send her with the baby.” “the mother must have heard her baby crying.” Head nurse said emotionally. She is always the strongest among all the new doctors around here. But today, she looked like a total new person. Like the mother in her was talking not her. “doctor Salvatore, head doctor is asking for you. Please hurry up.” A nurse came to me and tell. I asked the receptionist where he was. I went to the first floor in his office and knocked on the door. “come, sit here.” He said. “the patient is in a very bad state. These are the x-ray results. We might have to perform an amputation surgery on him.” He told me. “is there no other way to save the patient?” “this is to save him. The infection from the metal is spreading in his body. I've called his family. We’ll start the operation once they signed the form. And I want you to assist my in the operation. The orthopedic department of operating on the other patient she signed the consent form himself.” “I'll go change and start the preparations.” I said and moved fast to the OT.
