Ren, “Yes, doctor.” He said. He wrapped the bandages tightly to the man’s injuries. “if he dies, you will be the one responsible.” I uttered. “doctor everything is prepared.” Kohen yelled. “raise the bus….” He ordered. Suddenly the whole bus started shaking. As soon as it was lifted enough, doctor Ezekiel pulled the man up, freeing him from the weight he was under. I went to the other patient, I ripped away his jacket with the scissors. “an injured is coming out.” Doctor yelled and the man was taken out. “his heart rate has fallen to sixty. The blood vessels are all constricted. Give him a gauge needle quickly.” He asked the paramedic. “he needs a warm saline, hurry up and take him to the hospital.” As the patient was taken out, doctor Ezekiel looked at me with disappointment. I was not ashamed. He took the knowing how dangerous it could be for him. “the patients are here!!” the paramedic declared running into the trauma ward. All the doctor, from all the departments who were waiting for the injured to arrive in the trauma ward came running and started examining the patients. I was with the patient with leg injury, doctor Ezekiel was also looking after him. I saw the head nurse coming to me. she was looking for me I can tell. Her eyes stopped as it met mine. I walked to her. “doctor there is a problem.” She said worried. “the pregnant woman is in a cardiac arrest.” She reported. I looked at doctor Ezekiel he was preparing for the operation, telling the nurses and other staff what to do. So, I followed the head nurse to the woman. She was in the bed of the general ward. “where is the doctor from OB-GYN?” I asked. She must be here looking after her patient. She is in a very serious condition. It will be very hard to save the child if her condition didn’t stabilize. “she is not here. She took a day off today and her assistant is delivering another baby right now.” She told. “did you tell this to doctor Ezekiel?” “no, you were the first I told this to.” “Please don’t stop the compressions.” I said to the intern doing the compressions. I prepared for the operation in a swift. There is no time. The baby should be delivered now. No more time should be wasted. “Scalpel.” I said coming to the patient and head nurse gave it to me from the try she had. “We’ve been doing the compressions for nineteen minutes.” Nurse said. “take over.” I said to the male nurse to switch positions with the intern. I will need his help in the operation. “For the skin, I'll cut vertically. And for the uterus, I'll cut transversally.” I stated aloud. I slid the scalpel through the lower part of her stomach. Blood came out as the scalpel cut through her skin. “Incision. Gauze please.” I asked pulling out my palm. Head nurse put it in my hands. “I am in the abdominal cavity. Hold firmly.” I told the intern. He was holding one part of the stomach and I was holding another. “1, 2, 3,” he said. “I can see the uterus,” he again stated. “Richardson, please.” I asked for the retractor. “I will now cut into the uterus.” I said aloud. And as I split the cavity, water started flowing out. A lot of it. “Please take out the retractor.” I said and the intern did so. “Okay, press down” I ordered again. “I can see the baby’s head.” Head nurse stated. “Baby is coming out.” I gently grabbed the head and pulled the baby out of the uterus. I don’t deliver babies. I've assisted other doctors before when I was an intern but never on my own. It was something new. And the baby was so tiny. Just about the size to fit in my hands. It was incredible. It was something foreign. The baby was covered in blood and water. There was a short silence when he came out. Everyone adored him. My eyes were blessed two. He was bald and shining. Adorable. “Baby’s out. 11:25” the nurse declared.
