Ren I was taking long and fast strides out of the cafeteria. The corridor was quiet as a grave. Not even a simple sound for feet taps or anyone talking there was falling in my ears. From the staff cafeteria to the reception there was a walk for a good five minutes, although with my pace right now it might take about three minutes. On both sides of the corridor was the technical department office, laboratory and storage. Which made it the quietest and the most secluded place of this always chaotic hospital. Soon as I was at the door of the end of the seclusion, strange voices started falling in my ears. Sure, I was used to of the screeching noises from the wheels, medicine bottles crashing together and people running around in the hospital all the time, my brain ignores it as if it wasn’t even audible. But this was an unusual noise. Like someone screaming and shouting in a loud voice. As I reached the reception, I saw a woman, almost of my mom’s age on the ground. I vision widened at the view. What is going on here? I started thinking. What is this woman doing? I couldn’t control my brain going to all the possible conclusions. I guy was with her about my age, black hair. I could see his face, he was backing me, but I could tell be the way he was dressed. He was consoling the woman, back and forth hugging her and trying to pull her up on her feels. But the woman wouldn’t even budge. I asked the woman on the reception of what is wrong with her. There were so many folks crowding and watching it like some movie. I could barely made it to pass them to the reception. Jennifer, the middle-aged receptionist she is like a broadcaster for the hospital, everything that happens in the hospital, she knows it to the root of it. No one knows how but it is true. She never tells anyone the source but she is the best gossiper of this building. “hey Jennifer, what is going on here?” I asked. She was seated on her chair, behaving like nothing was happening there. “the patient, his name was… wait let me check… yes, Gabriel Logan from the TA (traffic accident). That lady… she is his wife and that boy is the sun. they are claiming that the patient died because of our hospital’s mistake, they are suing the attending physician.” “doctor Owen?” “no… doctor, Gabriel logan’s family is going to sue doctor Ezekiel.” “but why? He was with me in the OR (operation room).” “really, in the records it says doctor Owen was assisting doctor Ezekiel.” “that’s not wro….” Suddenly I saw doctor Ezekiel Walking out of the elevator. His expressions were blank, I've never seen him this way. So emotionless yet full of emotions. Don’t know the reason but his face from this morning when he looked me in the eyes saying that he will save both of them started coming in front of my eyes. He was confident, with each word of his I saw belief, conviction, and reliance but now, all I could decipher was sorrow, clouding his eyes. The woman was hitting him. Her hands hitting not just his body but his soul. He is the best not just a good doctor that I've ever see. He is born for this work. His words made me believe in him, that he will save them both. And I don’t believe that he could’ve died. Doctor wouldn’t have let that happen. “you killed me husband.” The woman grabbed him by the collar. Doctor Ezekiel was fixed on his feet like a statue. Nor did anyone come forward to save him. “I’m sorry. I couldn’t save him.” “you bastard! You are a doctor!!! How can you say that? You killed him. You killed him….” she falls on her feet sobbing and cursing. “you will pay for what you’ve done. And I'll make sure of that…” the son grabbed his collar and threatened. Maybe it was just a mask, but doctor Ezekiel was too cool today for his hot personality. He walked away, said nothing in his defence, did nothing just walked downhearted.
