Chapter 10

At this point, my body was visibly shaking. Taken from him? Did he just say I had taken it from him? I hadn’t taken a thing from him. I worked for everything I ever had. I provided for him as well. “I never took a thing from you! I worked! I paid the bills! Me! What did you do?!” I was screaming at this point, making sure he understood every word. Using my free arm to accentuate my words. He never turned toward me. His face never changed. “I sold you to your new man there. He made me an offer I couldn’t refuse, and I didn’t.” He stood up again looking at Jackson, still never at me. “Get her out of my house. She’s your problem now.” Jackson c****d his head to the side before replying, “Where is the paperwork my lawyers had you sign? Did you follow their directions exactly?” The rage was still at top-notch. At that point, I didn’t care what paperwork. I didn’t care about anything. I wanted my father to be hurt. I wanted him to hurt the way he hurt me. My father went to the kitchen quickly and came back with an envelope I assume held the paperwork in question. Before I even had time to think it through, I jerked away from Jackson and hit my father square in the nose. Blood flew from his nose as he fell to the floor. Jackson grabbed me again, but not as rough this time. He was laughing. Really laughing. “You deserved that, Daniel. Thank you for your daughter, this is going to be more fun than I originally thought. Burn her stuff, she won’t need it. I’ll see to her needs now.” That was the last time I saw my father. I’ll never forget the sight of him lying on the floor while the blood still flowed. I didn’t regret it. He had sold me. I was a human, and he sold me just like if I was an animal. That must have been all I ever was to him. Just a dog he couldn’t get rid of until now. Once again, I was shoved back into the truck, this time headed to hell. I was too numb to care at that point. That feeling wouldn’t last forever.
