Chapter 25- The Revered Poison

1105 Words
Ivan never suspected that the elderly man next to Lord Logan would be the one who could save him from the Poisoning state. He rushed back to Lord Castle and when he arrived he was again stopped by the security guard.    “I am baron. Does that not mean I can get inside?” Ivan said gloomily.    It was obvious that the guard hadn’t seen Ivan leave a short time before, he replied, “In extraordinary times, we have to be aware of the Demon spies trying to infiltrate Lord Castle. Please show me your nobility certificate.”   “What’s that? There is a certificate of nobility? Lord Logan didn’t give me one. Did he do it just to embarrass me?” Ivan complained. He had no option but to say with a flattering smile, “Mate, I have urgent business in Lord Castle. Do me a favor.”   However, the guard didn’t care, “Lord Logan is discussing important issues with  Mr. Elegance and cannot be disturbed. You’d better come back another day.”    Ivan showed him a gold coin. “Can I get inside now?”   “Who do you think I am?” the guard snarled.   “What about this?” Ivan took out another gold coin.   The guard hesitated. “I’m not the kind of person…”   “Uh-huh.” Ivan pulled out three more gold coins.   The guard took the coins with an expressionless look said, “We are family!”   Ivan walked past the guard, feeling good about himself. He thought it was very clever to bribe the guard with five gold coins for entry into the castle. He was beginning to see that money was a really good thing to have, both in real life and in games.    At the sight of Ivan’s self-satisfied face, the guard watched him enter the castle and mumbled under his breath, “That i***t doesn’t even know Lord Logan told us he could enter freely. I trick him into paying me, haha!”   … Not finding Lord Logan or the elderly man in the assembly hall, Ivan decided to walk around and explore, hoping to find them. After a while, he finally saw them sitting, playing chess in a garden.    “What kind of important issue are they discussing? It looks more like these two old men are having fun,” Ivan thought angrily.   Lord Logan saw Ivan first. “Oh, here is our new baron,” he teased.    “Oh, what is he coming for this time?” the thin elderly man said with confusion.   Ivan rolled his eyes and complained, “As a baron, I couldn’t even get inside.”   “Oh, really? Actually, I’ve ordered the guard to let you come and go freely in and out of Lord Castle,” Lord Logan laughed.   Ivan realized he had been tricked out of five gold coins and felt even more annoyed. He hadn’t expected the NPCs in the game to be so cunning.    Oh well, s**t happens.    “Lord Logan, didn’t you grant me a baron status and an estate? Why don’t I have a certificate or something to state that?” Ivan questioned.   Lord Logan couldn’t help laughing. “Don’t worry. It’s not a con. It’s just I forgot about the certificate when you were here, so after you left I immediately asked Rock to take it to Leaf Town.”   “Alright, I was mistaken about you,” Ivan said with an awkward smile.   “Lad, you’re here about the Poisoning state you’re in, aren’t you?” The thin elderly man said smilingly.   Ivan was quite surprised that the old man knew the reason for his visit. As he stepped forward Ivan asked, “Hello, are you the Revered Elegance? I have been told that you are marvelous. Could you detoxify the poisonous substance in my body, please?”   The elderly man shook his hand and said modestly, “The title ‘Revered’ flatters me. I agree I’m elegant though.”   “The poison in your body might be difficult to detoxify for others, but it’s a piece of cake to me.” The Revered Elegance sounded very confident.   Ivan rejoiced. “Wonderful! Please remove it for me.”   “OK, but you need to find me some medicinal ingredients first so that I can make the poison,” The Revered Elegance said with a faint, mysterious smile.   “Poison? I’m poisoned right now and you’re going to make a poison for me?” Ivan was astonished.   The Revered Elegance smiled without speaking.   Lord Logan saw Ivan was confused and thus explained, “Lad, the Revered Elegance is the greatest Poison-ace Priest on the continent. He excels at counteracting one poison with another, and no one does better than him.”   “Poison-ace Priest… The title sounds like a boast.” Ivan had a suspicious look on his face.   “Since I have no other choice, I will trust you. The Revered Elegance, what medicinal ingredients do you need?” Ivan asked.   “One three-eyed poisonous toad, one two-tailed poisonous scorpion, and one-hundred and fifty kilograms of arsenic powder,...” the Revered Elegance answered.   The Revered Elegance gave a long list of toxic items, leaving Ivan stunned.    Are you counteracting one poison with another or poisoning me to death? Just listening to his list is freaking me out, not to mention taking the cure that he will use them for.    The Revered Elegance paid no attention to Ivan’s suspicion. “These are common items. They’re available in the grocery store in the west,” he added.   Oh, they can all be bought in the grocery store, so I don’t need to waste time searching for materials.   Ivan nodded before leaving to go to the grocery store. In the store he pulled out the list, he wasn’t overly surprised that they were expensive. The total was twenty gold coins but he had no choice if he wanted to be healed.    The twenty gold coins are the equivalent of $400!    The contented face of the grocery store owner stung Ivan.   Ivan returned to Lord Castle after making the purchase and wasn’t stopped by the guards when he tried to enter. When he saw the one who tricked him out of the five gold coins, he called him a few names under his breath.    The Revered Elegance was still in the garden, Ivan handed him the big parcel of poisonous ingredients. After receiving the package, the Revered Elegance waved his hands to conger a furnace over six feet tall emerged out of the void. The furnace was etched with unicorns, griffins, centaurs, and mermaids and had a faint red halo around it, indicating that is was rare.    “It’s amazing that your Divine Furnace has grown to this height. It has graduated to Holy object, hasn’t it?” said Lord Logan in admiration.   The Revered Elegance loved to hear others praise his Divine Furnace. “I just lucked out,” he replied modestly.   “Up!”   “In!”   “Down!”   “Burn!”   The Revered Elegance quickly recited a spell. In a flash, the lid of the Divine Furnace automatically opened. As soon as the parcel of poisonous ingredients were placed inside the furnace, it took over the actions of creating the poison on its own. The lid closed just before a flame inside began to burn hot and bright.
