Chapter 1: Bitter Truth
Jade scratched her neck. She had shivers from thinking about what happened last night. She decided to call her mom.
"Hey mama" she finally said after waiting.
"Hey love what's up, I was just making breakfast when I heard my phone buzzing" She said matter of factly.
"Mom, remember when I was little. You know? How sometimes I would see things that, like, weren't always there?" Her mom paused.
"Hon what's this really about?" Jade paused thinking about how she should word this but knew her mom wouldn't judge her even if she sounded crazy.
"Mom something was watching me last night and I felt eyes on me, even in my sleep. I couldn't see it without my glasses but before I could even scramble to get them on, I swear, I saw something crawling up my wall and it was looking right at me." she sighed, "Do you think I should try different meds again?" This was the 9th med the doctors have tried to help her out with these intense feelings. Jade had kept the med changes to herself, even though her mom was concerned for her.
Her doctor referred her to a psychiatrist and 2 summers ago was able to take a DNA test that told her which Meds will have the best interactions. This whole situation had been a little hopeless for her.
The last 2 years of going through manic spendings, or intense depression, it all circled back and made her feel guilty for not sticking to her life plan. Sometimes her plan felt like a joke. Other times, it felt like it was literally impossible to get out of bed. Let alone get out of bed and go to class. As much as she didn't want to start the new year on a new med. She did not want to feel watched again.
"s**t Jade, I'm sorry this is happening again. It's nothing you deserve to go through. I think you need to seek a professional. With the school year coming up, especially with how hard you've been working to become an Interior Designer. I'd hate to see you come so far just to slip, and it be all for nothing." There was a pause. Jade knew she had a point.
"Okay, mom. Thank you, and I do have to go to work soon... So I will have to call you another time to catch up." She lied through her teeth even though she didn't have to.
"Well alright Sweetie. Take care. Mhm Love Ya, Byee!"
"You too, Bye."
Jade cherished the fact that she still has a mom that is there for her even when she's a complete i***t. Her dad left when she was 18 and old enough to live on her own. There was not much thought about him aside from bitterness.
She set an appointment for after school tomorrow. It will be her fourth and last year to endure. She was already feeling the burn out so she decided to shower and get into bed without even taking the time to get into comfy pajamas.
She scrolled her phone until she passed out.
