It has been nearly a week since school started. So far, things were looking up for her, she has made a couple of friends. She was going to explore the town with the cutest guy in town, and she was super excited. She had mentioned it to Samantha the day before and she was happy for Lydia. That morning she wanted to dress cute for school so, she decided to wear some tight white jeans, a cute blue blouse, which had sewn in flowers on it and light blue ked’s. She curled her hair just right and did her make up. She had time to go downstairs to talk to her parents before she had to leave for school. Her mom was in the kitchen making breakfast for her. So, she made her way in there and grabbed a mug and poured herself some coffee. Her mom said, “Make sure you are home early after school today, we are having some guest over for dinner.”  She asked, “Is it anyone we know?” Her mom replied, “I have invited the doctor and his family over. I hope that will be OK?” She didn’t know what to say, she only seen the doctor once since they moved there. She went with her mom to the clinic to see if her mom could get hired on with them. He seemed nice enough. She nodded to her mom and said she was looking forward to it and that she would be home on time.      After she ate her breakfast and left, she arrived at school a few minutes before the first bell rang. She walked into the school and saw Trevor talking to some girl near his locker. She was feeling a little jealous. Maybe, she was just jumping to conclusions about the situation. She walked to her locker and grabbed her books for first and second period. As soon as she shut the door she turned around and ran into the guy that was in her fourth period that was friends with Trevor, she though his name was Michael. So, the guy, Michael, said, “Whoa, Lydia right?” She nodded and Michael said, “I’m sorry for nearly running into you. Just wanted to see if you heard that my family and I are coming over to your house for dinner.” She was kind of shocked. She looked at him and asked, “So, you are Doctor’s Mays kid?” Michael smiled and said, “Yeah I am, the last time I checked.” She was surprised. Michael said, “I am actually looking forward to dinner with you. I think we could be friends.” She blinked a couple of times and asked him, “Why would you like to be friends with me? You are a football player and I am just new kid trying to find her way.” He said, “Not all jocks are airheads and stuck up. Some of us are actually kind and down to earth and just like to make friends with everyone.” She smiled and said, “Sure.” They said their goodbyes and went to first period.      Trevor was looking at her when she entered and gave her a look that she couldn’t decipher. So, as soon as she sat down she leaned over and asked him what was wrong and he said, “I saw you and Michael talking. What was that all about?” She heard a hit of jealousy in his tone. She didn’t know why because she also saw that he was talking to a girl too. And they weren’t a couple or anything. She said, “Why do you want to know?” He said, “I don’t know. I am just curious.” She gave in and told him that Michael and his family were coming over for dinner. Then the tardy bell rang. Mr. Kingsford stood and cleared his throat and said “Class, today is the day that I will be putting you into groups for your class project.” Lydia was a little nervous, she only knew two people in the class. Samantha and Trevor. As the teacher started naming names and topics, he finally got to her name said “Lydia Wilson you are paired with Trevor Sanders and your topic will be on the Civil Rights Movement.” Lydia glanced at Trevor and thought she saw him smiling. She was happy to have him as her partner too. Mr. Kingsford said to go ahead and pair up for the remaining of the class. Trevor scooted his desk next to hers and said, “Well, I was hoping I would be your partner. I wanted to get to know you better after all.” Lydia didn’t know how to respond to that. She kept thinking about the girl she saw him talking to out in the hallway. So she had to ask him about it. “Hey who was that girl you were talking to out in the hallway before class?” Trevor answered honestly, “That was Melanie, and she wanted to know what Michael was up to this weekend. She has the biggest crush on him but Michael seems clueless of it. So, I guess I am the middle man.” Lydia was feeling relieved because she thought that that Melanie girl was his girlfriend or something. Lydia said, “Oh, I thought that was maybe your girlfriend.” Trevor smiled at her and said, “No, I don’t have a girlfriend.” Lydia just nodded. Trevor asked if she wanted to work on the project before they explored the town on Sunday. She eagerly agreed. As the bell rang and they fixed their desk back and gathered their belongings. Trevor was waiting for her at the door. Lydia thanked him for waiting on her. Trevor started walking with her and asked if she was going to the game tomorrow. She never been to a football game before and she felt like she wanted to see how it is and since Trevor and Michael are on the team and that they were all slowly becoming friends, so she wanted to go and show her support. She replied, “I will see if Samantha wants to come with me.” Trevor smiled and looked happy at the answer. They took a step away from each other and then he told her that he would see her at lunch and to save him a seat because he wanted to sit with her today. She smiled and nodded and they went on to their second period class. Her mind was elsewhere during the second and third.      She finally was able to head to lunch and meet up with Samantha. She went to the line and ordered the burger they were serving that day and found her seat in front of Samantha. Samantha said, “Girl, I haven’t talked to you much lately. Oh, guess who is coming over right now?” Lydia turned around and noticed that Trevor was indeed headed over like he said he would. Lydia turned around to whisper to Samantha, “Yeah, he mentioned that he was going to come sit with us.” Samantha said, “You must have really made an impression on him.” Lydia was shocked and asked her why she thought that. Samantha replied, “Since I have known him he really hasn’t left his seat with the football players during lunch.” By the time she finished her sentenced Trevor was standing right beside Lydia. “May I seat with you,” Trevor asked. Lydia looked up at him and replied, “Well, you did ask for me to save you a seat and look there is one right beside me,” she winked at him. He sat his tray down and pulled the chair back and sat down. “So, what are you girls talking about,” he asked. Before anyone of them could answer him someone else sat down next to Samantha with a loud thud and made them jerk up. Michael Mays, “Trevor traded up for these two beautiful girls, I see how it is.” Trevor shook his head, while Lydia blushed. Samantha just hit his shoulder. Michael rubbed at it like it hurt. And Samantha just rolled her eyes and told him “Oh, that didn’t hurt you big baby!” Michael smiled and said “Well, what are you people gossiping about?” Lydia said, “We weren’t talking about much really. Just sat down honestly.” Michael nodded and asked if they were planning on going the game tomorrow. Lydia gasped, “Oh, Samantha I meant to ask you if you wanted to go with me tomorrow to the game.” Samantha looked at her and answered with a ‘sure.’ After that exchange and promise to show up to the game and everything they finished their lunch and headed separate ways to finish off their school day.      Lydia got back home from school in timely fashion as per request by her mother. As soon as Lydia opened the front door she was hit with the amazing smell of food. She yelled to her mother, “Mom, I’m home.” Her mom yelled back and told her to go ahead and get ready for dinner. She didn’t have to be told twice. She needed to wash the day off anyway and she wasn’t going to wear what she was currently wearing to the dinner. She headed into her room and picked out her outfit and laid it on her bed and went to the bathroom across the hall and took a long and leisurely bath but not too long because the family would be there in about an hour. She needed to shave everything. And she wanted to smell good tonight. She finally got out and wrapped herself in a towel and headed back to her room to dress for the dinner party. She decided to wear a pink dress that was layered on top with thin white lace and paired it with nude pumps. The only make up she put on was mascara and light pink blush and a light brown lip gloss. She left her hair straight. Before headed out she looked in the mirror to make sure she was satisfied with herself, she nodded. As she went to open the door the bell rang and she heard voices in the foyer. She left her room and shut the door as soon as she got to the top of the stairs she heard Michaels’ voice and someone else’s that she wasn’t sure why he would be here. She suddenly became nervous. She started coming down the stairs and halfway down they stopped talking and looked at her. She said “Hey boys.” They both said hey back. She guided them to the living room while they waited for dinner. She sat on one end of the couch while the other two sat down on the other sofa. Lydia asked Trevor, “So, how did you get roped into coming to this dinner?” Trevor looked at Michael and Michael said “He practically begged to come.” Trevor hit Michael with a throw pillow and turned to look at Lydia and told her that he did want to come over with them and that Davis was at home playing video games and didn’t want to come. A few minutes after talking her mom yelled from the dining room that dinner was ready. So, they all got up and headed to the table, where she noticed that all the parents were already seated. There was an empty seat next his dad and two on the other side of the table across from them. She sat down at one of the two empty seats. Then she waited to see who was going to sit next to her. She finally looked up when the chair was pulled back and notice that Trevor was about to sit down next to her. She became more nervous at the idea that he was sitting down next to her because she had a small crush on him, he was really cute and sweet, and she couldn’t wait until this weekend. She and everyone else started piling up there food and having a decent conversation. She noticed that Trevor’s leg was touching hers under the table. She glanced up at Trevor to see if he noticed and she saw that he smiled at her and she nodded in her head yep he knew. She blushed at the thought that he did that on purpose.      After dinner they were promised with dessert and while they waited for it to come she was surprised that Trevor was still stealing glances her way. Like he couldn’t stop staring. She mentally shook her head that couldn’t be the case right, she was no one special and they were becoming quick friends. Does he think of me like that? She asked herself. She shook her and ate the dessert and they all got up and the adults went to the den and talked while Lydia, Michael and Trevor went outside to the back patio and hung out. Lydia sat on the porch swing and Trevor sat beside her and Michael sat in the lounge chair across from them. They talked about school and the weekend plans, until Michael's mom called them from the kitchen and told them that it was time to go. They got up and Lydia walked them to the front door. They walked out to the front porch and they all said their goodbyes and Trevor was almost at the truck and then turned and ran back to her and he said “here is my number just in case you to talk or something and we still need to plan on Sunday.” She smiled and hugged him bye and told him that she would definitely be texting soon. He smiled and nodded and headed back to the truck. She almost forgot, “hey don’t forget I’ll be in the stands and cheering you guys on” Michael and Trevor smiled and waved. Then they were gone. She went back inside and went upstairs and got ready for bed. After she got settled in bed she decided to text Trevor to make sure he made it home OK. He texted back about ten minutes later and smiled “Hi, Lydia, yes I am home and in the bed now. Thanks for checking up on me.” She smiled and replied “Of course.” Trevor replied, “Make sure to come see me after the game tomorrow. I know you will be in the stands during the game but I wanted to talk to you before you went home.” She smiled and replied, “Of course, I will and I’ll drag Samantha down to the field too. Goodnight Trevor.” Trevor replied saying “Goodnight Lydia” Lydia smiled to herself and thought about what tomorrow will bring. She finally went to sleep with the anticipation of tomorrow.
