Introduction
Today was going to be a good day, I thought to myself. My name is Sterling and I turn 18 tomorrow. I am a part of the Red Moon pack, one of the largest packs in Montana.
I have been waiting for the day to turn 18 for what seems like forever. I was lying in my bed and there was a knock on my door, “ Honey, it’s time to get up, you’re going to be late for training.” my mother said while cracking her head through the door. I groaned at the thought of getting out of bed.
“Yes mom, I’m getting up.” I crawled out of bed and dragged my feet to the bathroom to get ready for training.
I looked in the mirror, my dark brown hair was everywhere and looked like I hadn’t showered in days. I stared at myself for a few minutes, my hazel eyes looked exhausted. I walked over to the shower and turned the water on. I climbed in after a moment to let the water warm up, I started to shampoo my hair. Once I finished washing my hair, I washed my body and hurried out of the shower. I wrapped the towel around my body and walked into my closet. I picked out a pair of leggings and my black sports bra along with a zip-up jacket to put over it. I was rushing to get dressed, I grabbed my running shoes and rushed to the kitchen.
“Hi honey, how did you sleep?” My mom asked while cooking breakfast.
I get my features mostly from my mom. I have her dark brown hair and eyebrows; I get my hazel eyes from my father though. She stands at about 5”5’ and she is fit.
“I slept okay, I tossed and turned most of the night.” I said while grabbing a plate.
“Why is something wrong?” She asked me.
“No, I think I’m just excited about finally gaining my wolf.” I stuffed my face with french toast so I could get to training. I ran up to my mom and gave her a kiss on the cheek and thanked her.
I grabbed my keys and walked out the door. I looked up at my car and saw Rae standing next to my car waiting. She and I have been friends for as long as I can remember. She is tall and muscular with long silver blonde hair.
“Hey, let’s go before we are late and have to run 10 more miles on top of everything else.” She said, grabbing at my door handle.
“Okay, I’m sorry I didn’t sleep well.” I apologized while unlocking the car and climbing in. I buckled up and pushed the start button on my car. I pulled out of the driveway and started my way to the packhouse.
“Can you please drive a little faster?” She protested.
“I don’t like to push her, but I guess I will today, since it’s my fault we may be late.” I stepped on the gas. She knew I loved my car and treated it like a baby.
“Are you anxious for tomorrow?” She asked while on her phone.
“I guess so, I’m curious to see what my wolf will look like,” I answered while turning on the road to the pack house.
“Are you not curious to see who your mate is?” She asked, unbuckling. I turned my car off and climbed out.
“I mean a little bit, yeah; you know I’m not in a rush though,” I said while walking. We walked in silence the rest of the way to meet everyone at training.
“I wonder if the Alpha will be in a good mood today and take it easy on us?” Rae sounded hopeful.
“Hey girls!” Everleigh shouted while running over to us!
“Hey Everleigh” we both said in unison.
“So, Sterling, I know you turn 18 tomorrow. Let’s have a little party tomorrow night to celebrate!” She grabbed my hands and pleaded. She knows I am not a big partier; I love to read and work out.
“I’ll think about it, okay?” I rolled my eyes.
“Everyone ready for training in the morning?” Enzo the Alpha’s son boomed. I could not help but drool. He is so tall, maybe 6”6’, has dirty brown hair with the most beautiful green eyes. Every muscle on his body looked like it had been chiseled by the Moon Goddess, his jaw line was perfection, his lips were plump and looked so soft.
“Earth to Sterling, come on, we are already starting!” Everleigh waved her hand in front of my face. I rolled my eyes, “why didn’t you tell me I was staring sooner?!, he probably freaking noticed!” I stated while starting to spar with her.
“Oh, come on. This is an everyday thing; you think you wouldn’t drool over him that much.” She said while spinning me down on the ground.
I was getting frustrated that she was about to pin me down. I slipped out of her grip and stood up. I knew she was going to win but I had to at least try. I stepped back and was ready to punch. She laughed and rolled her eyes. Just before I could swing, the time was up and we needed to start our running. I huffed and we both started to stretch before the run.
“Are you ready? Tomorrow you’ll be able to run in Wolf form with us.” Rae sounded so excited.
“Yeah, yeah. Let’s get this over with.” I started to jog. Rae and Everleigh are both 18 already, their wolves are so beautiful. Just thinking about tomorrow made my heart flutter. They made their way to the front of the group, since they could shift and the few that were not of age stood at the back in human form. It felt nice to start running and feeling the wind on my face. Running took my mind off things.
“So, when are you going to give up on the mate thing and just let me be yours?” Josh asked while jogging next to me.
I rolled my eyes and pushed myself harder to get away from him. Do not get me wrong, he is eye candy, a little taller than me with a washboard abs, a chiseled jaw line and shaggy blonde hair, piercing blue eyes. He is known for being a cheater though. He knows I am saving myself for my mate, I would never go against who the Moon Goddess paired me with. I pushed what he said into the back of my head.
